Kazakhmys plc (pronounced Kazakhmys) is a Kazakhstani mining and metallurgical company. The company is headquartered in London and Alma-Ata.

The founding date dates back to 1930, when copper production began in the area of ​ ​ Lake Balkhash. In 1992, it was privatized by oligarchs and incorporated under the name "Dzhezkazgantsvetmet." In October 2005, it entered the London Stock Exchange.

Kazakhmys is a mining company registered in the UK with the main activities carried out in Kazakhstan and in nearby regions. The main activity of the company is the extraction and sale of copper. Kazakhmys is a fully integrated company, whose activities cover all stages from ore mining to commodity metal production. The copper unit also produces large volumes of other metals as associated products such as zinc, silver and gold.

Shareholders of the company as of March 4, 2008 - Chairman of the Board of Directors Kim Vladimir Sergeevich (45.76% of the shares), Executive Director Novachuk Oleg Nikolaevich (6.53%) [1] 14.99% of Kazakhmys plc belongs to Sovereign Wealth Fund Samruk-Kazyna 'JSC.

Chairman of the Board of Directors of Kazakhmys Plc Vladimir Kim also has an option to buy a 25% stake in ENRC Kazakhstan Holding BV.

The board of directors of the corporation includes Bolat Nazarbayev - brother of the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev.[2]

Performance indicators

In 2007, ore production amounted to 33.968 million tons, copper production in concentrate - 347,900 tons. In 2006, the company produced 407 thousand tons of cathode copper, 28.5 thousand tons of copper rod, 129.1 thousand tons of zinc in concentrate, 59.5 thousand tons of metallic zinc, 21.57 thousand ounces of silver, 165.5 thousand ounces of gold.[3]

Copper ore reserves owned by the company amounted to 2007: proven - 700 million tons, probable - 2 billion tons.

Structure

The main subsidiary of Kazakhmys Plc - Corporation Kazakhmys LLP - has 19 open pits and underground mines and 2 metallurgical and refining plants in Kazakhstan.[3]

Kazakhmys Plc also owns a significant part of the railway network in Kazakhstan and MKM, which produces copper products in Germany.
