Nestlé implemented a blockchain of IBM for control of production and supply of coffee

At the beginning of April, 2020 Nestlé implemented blockchain technology of IBM Food Trust for tracking of production and supply of the Zoégas coffee. Within this project the Swiss producer of food signed the agreement with Rainforest Alliance company for certification of coffee beans which are delivered from farms in South America.

Zoégas is one of the oldest producers of coffee in Sweden purchased by Nestlé company in 1986. The company releases in Sweden separate lines fried and the Zoégas ground coffee and also whole coffee beans. One of them, Summer 2020, will be certified by Rainforest Alliance by supply of mix of coffee beans of arabica coffee from Brazil, Rwanda and Colombia.

The Zoégas brand owns factory in Helsingborgs IF where the received beans are fried, crushed and packed. The blockchain of IBM Food Trust will register information on farmers, harvesting time, the certificate of transaction for specific deliveries and also the roasting period. And all products Zoégas will be delivered with the QR code, having scanned which it is possible to learn where grains were produced and as got on factory.

Nestlé — one of the first companies which implemented a blockchain for tracking of transactions in a supply chain. In 2019 the initiative of Chain of Origin company was nominated for the award IDC Digital Transformation. The company is also one of founders of IBM Food Trust who drew general attention to himself now and concludes profitable partnership. In addition to coffee, Nestlé uses a blockchain platform of IBM for tracking of dairy mixes and Mousline puree.

Nestlé also participates in OpenSC, an initiative of creation of the steady supply chain based by WWF Australia and Boston Consulting Group Digital Ventures. The company uses the OpenSC platform for tracking of supply of the New Zealand milk to the Nestlé plants in the Middle East and for quality check of the palm oil used in the products Nestlé.[1]
