It is the best result since 2005 when the university reached a record 79th position. At the same time the university got 99.7 points from 100 on an indicator "A ratio of number of teachers to pupils". For the first time since the beginning of an exit of QS World University Rankings the second place among the Russian universities was taken by Novosibirsk State University (the 231st position), having overtaken St. Petersburg State University (the 234th position). The fourth recognized the Tomsk state university (the 268th position), it is followed by Bauman Moscow State Technical University (the 284th position), Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (the 302nd position), the National research university "Higher School of Economics" (the 322nd position), National Research Nuclear University of MEPhI (the 329th position), Ural Federal University (the 364th position) and the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (the 366th position).

On an indicator "A share of the international students" in the rating of this year of 19 of 25 universities of Russia improved the results — all in them from 2013 for 2018 the number of foreign students grew by 40%. Besides, seven of 50 best universities of the world on an indicator "A ratio of number of teachers to pupils" are Russian. In top-500 the rating of this year 16 Russian universities — one more, than last year entered (the ITMO rose from group 511-521 to the 436th place). However only five of 25 Russian universities grew on an indicator "Reputation among employers". The others 20 took lower positions in comparison with last year.

Scientific activity remains a weak point of the Russian universities: 18 of 25 universities got lower point by "The index of quoting", than last year, and any Russian university did not enter in top-600 on this indicator. At the same time two universities in 2019 left the institutional rating of QS: The Altai state university (from position 601-650) and Siberian Federal University (from a position 801–1000).

MSU was included into one hundred the best universities in the rating of QS World University

Lomonosov Moscow State University took the 90th place in the rating of the best universities QS World University Rankings made by the research center QS Quacquarelli Symonds. MSU rose by five lines from the last year's 95th place. The relevant data are published on the website[2].

2017

RAEX: Rating of 100 best universities of Russia

The sixth annual rating of universities of the RAEX agency showed that scientific publications of the Russian universities began a thicket to be quoted, recorded the noticeable growth of positions of economic universities and decrease in competitiveness of the universities which are in process [3]

Top three of rating in 2017 did not undergo changes in comparison with last year: first place was won by Lomonosov Moscow State University, MIPT and NIYaU of MEPhI became prize-winners also. The most notable changes in top-10 rating - growth of the MGIMO university (the 5th place against the 7th in 2016) and decrease in positions of MSTU of N.E. Bauman (the 7th place against the 4th in 2016).

MGIMO shows steady growth in rating several years in a row, being the leader in attractiveness for entrants: here the highest USE for state employees (95.3 points) and the most expensive paid training - 463 thousand rubles a year. This year assessment of university on the level of demand of graduates employers improved. So, by the new criterion estimating the wage level of graduates in a year after the termination of university, MGIMO with an indicator of 62.4 thousand rubles was included in the top ten among all participants of rating.

Citing: "explosive" growth

The Russian universities made the greatest progress in the field of scientific publications. If according to the results of the rating of 2016 0.20 publications a year, then according to the results of relevant rating - already 0.29 publications indexed in foreign databases on average were the share of one employee of universities from TOP 100. Prompter dynamics is observed in the field of citing publications: the annual average number of citings counting on the employee grew from 0.32 to 0.53. By the way, such "explosive" growth as on citing, at universities from TOP 100 of rating of RAEX it is not observed more on one measurement.

Demand of entrants is displaced towards the economic and managerial directions

Dynamics according to publications and citing at participants of the 5-100 program is ambiguous (the project of improving competitiveness of the Russian universities among the leading world scientific and education centers). The number of publications counting on the employee grew by 45%, at the same time citing counting on article - for only 16%. It occurred against the background of stagnation of volume of Research and Development at participants "5-100": in a year it practically did not change (+0.1%). At the same time the total amount of financing counting on the student in these universities decreased by 11% at all. In such situation temptation to increase the number of publications can have an adverse effect on their quality.

"Economic" rise

In 2017 for the first time for all the time of drawing up educational ratings of RAEX synchronous growth in the list of 100 best universities was shown by the universities which are focused on training of economists and managers. So, a RANEPA moved from the 12th to the 11th place, the Financial university improved positions from 14th to the 13th place, REU of G.V. Plekhanov - from 25th to the 23rd place, VAVT - from 30th to the 29th place. Such uniform positive nature of dynamics of economic universities in the ratings of RAEX was not observed earlier.

Demand of entrants for long years is displaced towards the economic and managerial directions. For example, according to the results of the rating of 2017 the GPA of the USE of state employees of the leading economic universities made 85.3 whereas even the first participants have programs of improving competitiveness "5-100" - 80.4. As for paid acceptance, here a lead of economic universities even more sushchestven: the average cost of training at 1 rate is 267 thousand rubles against 149 thousand rubles at universities project participants "5-100" of "the first wave".

Steady growth of interest of entrants in the sphere of economy and management, mainly, is connected with claims for career achievements. Also it should be noted that the level of income of graduates of economic universities from top-30 is 28% higher than the rating of RAEX, than at other participants top-30 - 66.3 thousand rubles against 51.7 thousand rubles (according to the Ministry of Education and Science about the average monthly income of graduates next year after the termination of university). One more reason for optimism of economists and managers - the data of the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection published in May, 2017: the highest level of salary in 2016 in Russia is recorded in a financial field of activity (78.3 thousand rubles).

Enlargement costs

The rating of universities of RAEX showed: integrations of universities due to associations cause a loss to strong universities as level material and staffing of the attached universities, as a rule, is rather low. At most the universities involved in processes of consolidation, positions in the rating of 2017 decreased. It affected also reference universities - the large scientific and education centers created in the subjects of the Russian Federation focused on requests of regional economy and regional labor market. So, the Ufa state oil technical university which attached the Ufa state university of economy and service decreased on 9 points and took the 57th place. And accession to Tyumen State Oil and Gas University of the architectural and construction university led to decrease in the joint university in rating on 14 positions at once - to the 52nd place.

At the same time in the future reference universities which should become the centers of the innovative, technology and social development of regions have an opportunity to increase competitiveness on condition of support by the state and effective management.

28 Russian universities were included into the subject rating of QS

Annually made subject rating of Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) included 28 Russian universities. QS-2016 on 28 data domains included 17 universities of Russia. The complete list of educational institutions is submitted on a rating developer's site. Among the Russian leaders of the rating – Moscow State University, MISIS, the St. Petersburg mining institute, MIPT.

Except them the Novosibirsk State University, MEPhI, SPBSU, the St. Petersburg polytechnical university, the Tomsk state university and other universities got to rating.
