2017: Integration into Skala-SR

On April 11, 2017, IBS InterLab and Diasoft Platforma announced the start of integration of Diasoft Database Adapter into the Skala-SR/Postgres Pro database machine . Companies believe this will allow Postgres Pro DBMS to strengthen its market position.

The use of Diasoft Database Adapter technology for the Skala-CP/Postgres Pro complex will help customers to quickly transfer information systems, including those running on Oracle Database and Microsoft SQL Server, to a highly reliable infrastructure managed by Postgres Pro DBMS with the smallest changes in configurations and source system code.

The integration of Diasoft Database Adapter into the Skala-SR/Postgres Pro complexes will expand the possibilities of using cluster machines from IBS in a wide range of information systems in which PostgreSQL was not used as a DBMS. Note that the use of Diasoft Database Adapter allows you to make the migration process from one DBMS to another fully automated.

2016: Line Extension

In June 2016, IBS announced the expansion of the Skala product line. A year ago, the company launched Skala-R universal computing complexes with an installed set of equipment and deployed management, virtualization and information security software . Now the line has been replenished with three new products with the CP index - the Skala-CP/Postgres Pro and Skala-CP/Oracle DB database machines, as well as the Skala-CP/Analytics complex for working with in-memory analytical systems .

Initially, the Skala-R complex was intended for a wide range of loads, but real working conditions and tests showed that large organizations have a number of tasks to solve which need to go beyond the general-purpose infrastructure complex, they say in IBS. This explains the prerequisites for creating new products based on Skala-R.

Like the solutions of the universal line, Skala-CP/Postgres Pro, Skala-CP/Oracle DB and Skala-SR/Analytics were developed jointly with Russian IBS partners and are positioned as an alternative to foreign pre-configured integrated infrastructure solutions based on universal, most common mass-class server systems. At the same time, the company says that over the year, from the moment of entering the market, the level of "fatherland" of Skala's decisions has increased significantly.

The computer base of the Skala complexes is composed of servers and, DSS Depo Computers which, according to a company representative, meet the criteria for a domestic product in accordance with current legislation. To make the product even more independent of Western solutions, according to Depo Vice President Viktor Urusov, it is also planned to use Russian UPS and switching equipment for the Skala platforms Mellanox - the Israeli company with which Depo entered into a partnership agreement.

The systems of the "Skala" line also use the monitoring system of its own development IBS - "IBS Monitoring," virtualization technologies from the "Rosplatforma" company and domestic software for ensuring information security.

"Rock-CP/Oracle DB"

The Skala-CP/Oracle DB hardware and software complex is designed to deploy high-load Oracle DBMS. The developers claim that in many tasks it is able to replace the Oracle Exadata database machine .

Mapping the IBS Database Machine to the "Best Analogues"

According to the developers, "Rock-CP/Oracle DB" is optimal when used for databases up to 50TB. This is less than the volumes supported by Oracle Exadata, but IBS they believe that their solution opens up a very wide segment of the market., Igor Vedekhin Deputy General Director of IBS, noted that bases of hundreds of TB are required by very few Russian companies.

IBS says their solution provides a high level of performance on relatively inexpensive hardware without the use of "extreme multiprocessor systems and expensive disk arrays." According to IBS, their product is about 30% more affordable than an Oracle product with similar performance.

Igor Vedekhin explains that the savings are largely due to the lack of the need to use expensive Exadata software, which is used in Oracle database machines. The IBS spokesman claims that the Rock-CP/Oracle DB is comparable to the Oracle Exadata machine in performance in its segment due to the architecture features and correctly selected solution components.

Igor Vedekhin noted in a conversation with TAdviser that his company considered Oracle Exadata as the best sample and, having analyzed it, came to the conclusion that it would be able to release its own infrastructure basis for such a class of tasks with a win in price.

"Rock-CP/Postgres Pro"

Rock-SR/Postgres Pro is a pre-configured fault-tolerant and scale-out solution that enables large and medium-sized organizations to significantly reduce the cost of purchasing DBMS licenses and avoid the purchase of high-price computing nodes and storage systems.

The Skala-SR/Postgres Pro software and hardware complex was introduced in June 2016 by IBS Interlab, a division of IBS that develops high-availability infrastructure solutions. The solution was designed jointly with Postgres Professional, a Russian vendor of DBMSostgreSQL. Postgres Professional has developed the Russian Postgres Pro DBMS based on PostgreSQL - an open source and free license system. The collaboration of IBS Interlab and Postgres Professional developers made it possible to create an efficient cluster configuration for the Postgres Pro DBMS. The specialists carried out painstaking work on balancing the components of the software and hardware complex, setting up a cluster connection and optimizing the indicators of Skala-SR/Postgres Pro. As a result, customers will receive a ready-made database machine with Postgres Pro preinstalled, tested and configured DBMS.

The database machine includes a pre-installed, tested and pre-configured Postgres Pro DBMS - an improved version of PostgreSQL, which was included in the unified register of domestic software among the first products. Igor Vedekhin noted that the high performance of DBMS on the Skala-CP/Postgres Pro database machine is ensured by the efficient interaction of computing nodes and DSS.

IBS believes that the release of such a platform is very relevant, since an increasing number of customers are guided by the use of DBMS and an increasing number of software developers provide its support. Among the advantages of Skala-CP/Postgres Pro, the developers call "freedom from sanctions risks" due to the use of Russian products and software in it.

The Skala-SR/Postgres Pro database machine is suitable for medium and large companies, for which a high level of fault tolerance of the IT infrastructure is fundamentally important . Technologies and products in the complex do not require expensive software and hardware, allowing you to reduce the total cost of ownership. Importantly, the Skala-SR/Postgres Pro complex is suitable for state-owned enterprises implementing an import substitution policy.

"Rock-SR/Analytics"

To work with analytical systems of the in-memory class, IBS introduced the Skala-SR/Analytics software and hardware complex. A feature of this complex in the company is the use of parallel computing on the NVIDIA Tesla graphics accelerator. Resident analytics technologies (in-memoryOLAP), together with GPU acceleration, ensure consistently fast system operation with increasing volumes of data, the company says.

The IBS partner in creating a software and hardware complex for working with analytical systems was the Russian company Polymatica, which develops the reporting and analytical platform of the same name. The companies plan to release a joint software and hardware complex Polymatica "with a pre-installed "Polymatica "system to solve analytical problems in RAM, which allows processing large amounts of data in real time.

The PAC includes the IBS Monitoring system developed by IBS, which allows you to collect and analyze data on the operation of both the software and hardware parts of the complex. The complex is planned to be transferred to the version of the analytical platform "Polymatica 5.0."
