2015: Oracle boosts cloud business workforce by 1,000

On March 26, 2015, Oracle announced an increase in personnel involved in the company's cloud business. The staff of the enterprise software manufacturer will be replenished mainly in Asia.

According to ZDNet, citing the head of the South Korean representative office of Oracle Kim Hyoung-lae, the company will hire about 1000 sales specialists in the Asia-Pacific region to help Oracle with the distribution of cloud products.[17]

In particular, it is planned to recruit 150 employees to the Australian office of Oracle, 300 to the Indian and 100 to the South Korean. The announced increase in staff is part of Oracle's strategy, in which the company shifts its focus towards a cloud model of software distribution instead of the traditional one, when software is installed on client computers.

In calendar year 2015, Oracle predicts revenue from sales of SaaS and PaaS solutions at more than $1 billion. The task is quite feasible, given the dynamic development of the company's cloud business: in the third financial quarter, closed on February 28, 2015, the vendor increased turnover in the SaaS and PaaS markets by 30% (to $372 million), and also attracted 800 and 400 new customers there, respectively.

According to Kim Hyun-lae, Oracle has decided to invest $5 billion in clouds, which opens up new opportunities for markets such as South Korea. In this country, the company's SaaS revenue in the third fiscal quarter increased by 240%. For further business development in the region, Oracle plans to build a new data center there, although, as Kim Hyun-lae said, a final decision on this matter has not yet been made, since more than 20 data centers deployed worldwide allow it to serve all its customers without any problems.

According to the head of the Indian representative office of Oracle Shailender Kumar (Shailender Kumar), the company is the only cloud provider that offers a full set of services, including SaaS, PaaS and IaaS. Oracle is building a top-notch sales team to help the company's customers get the most out of cloud computing, Kumar added.

Sales managers run from Oracle

Over the past two years (from 2011 to 2013), many sales managers have left the main Oracle team, not satisfied with the strict quotas that were set by the employer after the purchase of Sun Microsystems, [18] reported in July 2013, citing former and current employees of the company.

And although the corporation has already informed investors that the incident has been exhausted, sources of the publication claim that a negative trend continues. Moreover, many of the employees leaving Oracle worked in the company for 10-20 years.

The process of changing and updating personnel is natural for a Oracle-level company, but it seems that the crisis in the sales structure was not in vain for the company: contrary to Wall Street's expectations in fiscal year 2013, the corporation's results were much lower than forecasts, and the fourth quarter, traditionally the strongest, turned out to be generally depressing.

On June 20, 2013, during a conference with Wall Street analysts, Oracle President Mark Hurd said that employee outflows had decreased, and as of June 7 of that year, a sales plan was being implemented in 90% of the corporation's territory, which is an absolute record for Oracle.

However, insider information contradicts the official position. Speaking on condition of anonymity, one sales employee told Business Insider: "Hundreds of people leave the company on a quarterly basis." The team of this employee has about a dozen people, a third of them have already quit or are looking for new jobs.

One former employee of the corporation also said that he sees an outflow among his former colleagues. "Oracle has a completely terrible reputation in technical sales circles," he said. According to managers, one of the stumbling blocks is quotas that force the sale of a certain amount of hardware on a monthly basis. Moreover, they even concern employees specializing in software sales. While in enterprises, different people are often responsible for the purchase of software and equipment, which complicates the task.

Reporting on the third quarter of fiscal 2013, Hurd assured analysts that over the past two years, the corporation has hired 4,000 new sales specialists, however, without naming exactly how many employees of a similar profile left Oracle in an equal period of time.

Also in June 2013 , Larry Ellison, head of Oracle, assured financial analysts that one of the company's tactics is to hire young professionals immediately after college. In 2013 alone, about 500 people were employed in the sales area. At the same time, Oracle technology products are quite complex, and in order to sell them, an employee must have a very high competence in this area.

120 thousand employees

As of 2013, the company employs more than 120 thousand people, of which 35 thousand are developers, 18 thousand are support specialists and the same number of expert consultants.
