2019: The beginning of use of drones on production

Sukhoi Civil Aircraft expand application of Internet of Things on production, planning use of drones for quality control of an outer surface of airplanes, representatives of the company in September, 2019 told. It began reply to the request to reduce terms and labor input of performing transactions from business, connected with this process, the director of the department of IT of the company Roman Markovsky explained.

We have a consolidation with Irkut corporation now, there will be a unification of systems and component parts for the Superjet 100 airplanes with "MS-21". Respectively, technologies which we perfect now by our airplane which, unlike "MS-21", is already produced in lots can be used also for the medium-haul machine, - Markovsky says.

In workshop of final assembly of Sukhoi Civil Aircraft in Komsomolsk-on-Amur there are six production sites of assembly of airplanes from ready component parts, and the clock period of execution of works on each section makes one business week. Every week all six airplanes over which works at the same time can be conducted move from one production site to another, Alexander Kuznetsov, the associate director of department of IT on development who is engaged in search and approbation of new technologies explained.

At the same time on each platform business week begins with survey of an outer surface based on which all deviations from production operations are fixed. For example, dents, chips, scratches, etc. Transaction of survey of an outer surface can take 1-2 days.

The idea of the company is in that completely to exclude a human factor from this process, completely to automate it, at the same time having reduced terms of survey of an outer surface till 2 o'clock. Drones should collect data and automatically transfer them to the server for the analysis without participation of the person. Inclusion of the employee in process is supposed how all data are analyzed and classified.

In the solution projected by Sukhoi Civil Aircraft drones of simple models of production of DJI company – on two drones on one platform working in completely standalone mode are used. Roman Markovsky told TAdviser that for positioning of drones use of the GPS emulator, set in workshop is indoors possible. Positioning accuracy is two centimeters.

Also some more digital technologies, such as video analytics and neural networks are involved in the solution. The video analytics allows to reduce time: processing of the data arrays collected by drones – the photo and video record – the person would take more time. Here the company uses the practices in the field of video analytics which are already tested in its warehouse. Work on video analytics for survey of a surface as of September is still conducted.

Neuronets, in turn, will allow to solve a problem of determination like the revealed defect. A system should classify about 70 types of defects on the basis of constantly filled up database from tens of thousands of photos and video. It, in turn, minimizes a human factor both in finding of defects, and in determination of its type, Alexander Kuznetsov says.

Such solution will allow not only to reduce survey terms, but also to increase quality: when the surface is examined by the person - it is a subjective control method. The employee can have poor eyesight or to be tired, for example. And the equipment is not tired, - Kuznetsov notes.

A system with drones is connected to the platform of Internet of Things Winnum which was used earlier by Sukhoi Civil Aircraft in the project of Internet of Things (how the platform is arranged, see in the block below). The solution Winnum Air allowing to connect UAVs was for this purpose used. They are connected actually as well as equipment sensors.

Sukhoi Civil Aircraft consider the possibility of transfer further to the airlines operating its airplanes, survey of their surface on the basis of drones as additional service. They could apply it before flight to inspection of the aircraft, Alexander Kuznetsov added.

Roman Markovsky in a conversation with TAdviser noted that in this case, however, there can be restrictions concerning operation of drones on the street: during strong bad weather – the rain and wind, flight using the most widespread drones can be difficult. The heavy rain, for example, calls into question a possibility of receiving materials from the video camera.

Roman Markovsky told TAdviser that in addition to the platform of Internet of Things on production Sukhoi Civil Aircraft also implement the platform of operation allowing to receive operational statistics from the flying airplanes – telemetered informations, data of technical and flight services, the logbook and also logistic services of airlines. Their collecting is already organized from airplanes of almost all airlines operating Superjets. According to Markovsky, the company is going to coordinate data which collect from production, to operational to look for different correlations.

However, so far data in real time in flight are collected in the minimum volume as a satellite channel of data transmission costs much. Information usually is removed when the airplane lands.

2018: Platform of Internet of Things

Sukhoi Civil Aircraft carried out pilot implementation of technologies of Internet of Things (IoT) in build process of airplanes and consider their use in production processes of new model of the aircraft. The associate director of department of IT of the company Igor Zykov told about it, speaking at the TAdviser SummIT conference on May 30, 2018.

Technologies of Internet of Things applied in workshop of final assembly of aircrafts in Komsomolsk-on-Amur. It represents a hangar where collect the fuselage, connect wings, equip the vessel with the engine, etc., Zykov explained.

IoT was involved in three processes: control of placement of aircrafts on platforms of production, control of climatic conditions on production and control of tightening of key bolted connections.

In the first case of IoT it was used for monitoring of placement of airplanes on platforms of production online with real display of arrangement of aircrafts in a graphic type. Also display of planned and actual production data on stages was implemented.

In the second case using IoT online monitoring of climatic parameters was performed: temperatures, humidity, the dust contents arriving from sensors, the analysis and comparisons of data with permissible values. In case of deviations of indicators from set there is an informing the user.

As for process of tightening of key bolted connections, here the IoT-platform is applied to data collection, arriving from dynamometer keys, the analysis and comparison of parameters with data of a replaceable task. The user receives the notification in case of deviations of indicators from set. Also collecting, the analysis and idea of statistical data of the performed works is performed.

For implementation of an idea the ready platform of industrial Internet of Things (IIoT)Winnum developed by the resident Skolkovo was used.

The project was implemented to show to business as it is possible to use new technologies, Igor Zykov explained. By June it was demonstrated the project to the management, and now it is necessary to decide what development this technology will be able to gain.

Most likely, the IoT-platform will be applied in the new product program including creation of the Superjet airplane on 75 places, the associate director of department of IT assumed Sukhoi Civil Aircraft. The company announced the beginning of development of this model of the aircraft in February, 2018.

О TAdviser SummIT

The TAdviser SummIT conference took place in Moscow on May 30, 2018 year and attracted more than 600 participants. Increase in business performance and the state using digital technologies became principal themes of an action. Representatives of large customer companies and a public sector provided the best practices of use of IT in the organizations, and suppliers of IT solutions – the new developments. Within a plenary part and five thematic sections more than 60 reports and public discussions were heard. The action took place in 5 Digital October halls.
