20-fold increase in vaccine exports
At the end of 2021, Russia delivered vaccines abroad for a total of $1.42 billion against $72 million a year earlier. This is evidenced by the data of the Federal Customs Service (FCS), released in February 2022.
As Vedomosti writes with reference to the materials of the department, we are talking about statistics on the code of TN VED 3002200009 "Other vaccines for people," the export of vaccines against coronavirus COVID-19, in particular the drug "Sputnik V," is taken into account for this group.
If in money the export of Russian vaccines has grown by about 20 times, then in physical terms, according to the FCS, the dynamics are much more modest. In 2021, Russia exported 538 tons of drugs - this is 3 times more than in 2020 (then the export was 175 tons). The cost per ton, thus, in 2021 amounted to $2.7 million per ton against $405 thousand in 2020.
The FCS explains this by the rise in vaccine prices. In 2019-2020, the average cost of packaging drugs shipped for export averaged 48-50 rubles, the cost of Sputnik is higher per dose (according to the latest data from the Ministry of Health, the maximum selling price for the vaccine is 867 rubles for both components). Therefore, monetary dynamics is ahead of the growth of natural supply volumes, commented Nikolai Bespalov, Development Director of the analytical company RNC Pharma, to the FCS data.
A significant increase in the export of Russian vaccines in 2021 is largely due to the fact that in 2021 vaccines against coronavirus were not actually exported: the first countries - Belarus, Argentina and Serbia - approved the use of the Russian Sputnik in December of that year. By February 2022, Sputnik V is approved for use in 71 states, and most exports are to Argentina and Mexico.[1]

USA Domestic drug showed a more favorable safety profile and better tolerability. Nanolek announced this on November 22, 2021. More. here
Argentina leads in the purchase of Russian vaccines
In mid-October 2021, the countries leading in the procurement of Russian vaccines became known. The following five states accounted for more than 60% of all deliveries in monetary terms:
- Argentina;
- Kazakhstan;
- India;
- UAE;
- Mexico.
This is reported by RBC with reference to the data of the Federal Customs Service for June-August 2021. According to the results of this period, 203.6 tons of vaccines with a total value of about $410 million were exported from Russia (data on the classification code of TN VED 3002200009). From January to May inclusive, only 159 tons of $303.6 million were exported from the country.
TN VED 3002200009 is "other vaccines for people," the main code for such substances. According to the analytical company RNC Pharma, in 2020, 90% of drugs of this category were supplied under this designation. This includes not only vaccines against coronavirus (COVID-19) infection, but also drugs to combat tick-borne encephalitis, diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, hepatitis A.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation explained to the publication that the sharp increase in vaccine exports in 2021 is due to the significant supply of drugs to prevent infection with the COVID-19 coronavirus. Every month of summer, vaccine exports exceeded $100 million in cash. The maximum of such deliveries was noted in August - 105.8 tons in physical terms ($123.8 million). In total, for eight months of this year, Russia exported 362.5 tons of vaccines with a total value of $713.7 million.
The publication notes that all countries that increased purchases of Russian vaccines in 2021 previously signed contracts for the supply of Sputnik V"," which by mid-October 2021 was already approved in 70 countries. Earlier, the general director RDIF Kirill Dmitriyev allowed a significant increase in the supply of vaccines against COVID-19 abroad from June 2021.
As the sites fully satisfy domestic demand, they can also supply the vaccine absolutely without compromising domestic demand for foreign markets, he noted.[2] |
Free preventive vaccinations in private clinics
From October 1, 2021, Russians can make free vaccinations in private clinics. We are talking about vaccines included in the national calendar of preventive vaccinations and the calendar of preventive vaccinations for epidemic indications.
Appropriate vaccinations can be made in medical organizations of any organizational and legal form participating in the implementation of the territorial program of the Campus Management compulsory medical insurance, and not only in organizations of state and municipal health care systems. The regulatory provisions on the provision of immunobiological drugs for immunoprophylaxis will also be clarified.
The new norm will give citizens the opportunity to get vaccinated in a familiar and convenient place, with a specialist whom they trust. And the quality of health care in general depends on the availability of medical services, - said State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin. |
He noted that tens of thousands of Russians are observed in private clinics at the place of residence, and in order to get vaccinated for free, they have to contact another place.
By the beginning of October 2021, the national calendar of preventive vaccinations, in particular, includes vaccinations against viral hepatitis B, hemophilic infection, pneumococcal infection, influenza, diphtheria, pertussis, measles, rubella, polio, tetanus, tuberculosis and mumps (mumps).
Boris Mendelevich, a member of the Health Protection Committee, initiator of the draft law, said that from the point of view of finance, the initiative would not require additional investments either from the state or from patients. At the same time, the authorities will provide polyclinics and clinics with vaccines: in terms of the national calendar of vaccinations - federal, and in terms of the calendar of preventive vaccinations for epidemic indications - regional. FMBA named childhood vaccinations, after which complications most often occur
In mid-October 2020, the Children's Scientific and Clinical Center for Infectious Diseases of the Federal Medical and Biological Agency (FMBA) published data on the side effects of vaccinations after studying 1,624 cases of hospitalization of children with diseases in the post-vaccination period.
More than 50% of hospitalizations accounted for DTP vaccinations (adsorbed pertussis-diphtheria-tetanus vaccine), said Yury Lobzin, former director of the Children's Scientific and Clinical Center for Infectious Diseases (DNKCIB FMBA), now honorary president of the center, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, at the plenary session of the XI All-Russian Annual Congress "Infectious Diseases in Children: Diagnosis, Treatment and Prevention."
The second place in the number of hospitalizations carried out after vaccination of children was taken by anti-diphtheria and anti-cholbanic vaccines - ADF and ADF-M (197 cases of hospitalization), of which 53 were associated with an adverse reaction. In third place is the measles vaccine - 193 facts of hospitalization, of which 49 are direct reactions and complications after vaccination. Following are: OPV (polio vaccine) - 168 cases of hospitalization, of which are associated with normal reactions and complications 4; CCP (combined vaccine against three infections: measles, rubella, mumps) - 63 cases of hospitalization, of which are associated with complications after vaccination 5.
Earlier, the list of serious complications after vaccinations requiring investigation was compiled by the Ministry of Health. The agency noted that the negative consequences of some vaccines can appear even in one and a half to two years.
The methodology of the Ministry of Health says that complications can cause DTP vaccines, immunoglobulins, as well as various serums and allergens. In addition, complications can begin after the BCG vaccine. Minor complications include pain at the injection site, runny nose, swelling, redness and fever.[4]
2019: Reduction of the share of foreign vaccines in the Russian Federation in 4 years by 4 times
The share of foreign vaccines in Russia in 4 years fell fourfold. The head of Rostec, Sergei Chemezov, spoke about this at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on July 28, 2020.
The share of our medical devices is also growing: today it occupies about 10% on the market. More recently, we were practically close to zero... The pharmaceutical direction also shows success. It was possible to reduce the share of imported vaccines on the Russian market from 69% in 2015 to 17% [in 2019], Chemezov said (quoted by TASS). |
According to him, in 2019, Rostec created the first Russian quadrivalent vaccine for the prevention of influenza according to the standards of the World Health Organization (WHO). It was called Ultrix Quadri, its creation cost about 1 billion rubles. This latest drug includes four topical strains, and with one injection you can immediately vaccinate a vaccine against four different strains of influenza, the head of Rostec explained. He noted that with the help of the drug "Ultrix Quadri" the vaccination of employees of "Rostec" and the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation was carried out .
At a meeting with Putin, Sergei Chemezov also reported that Rostec was starting deliveries of the first Russian pentavaccin from diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, hepatitis B and hemophilic infection to medical institutions.
Previously, an injection from five diseases could immediately be delivered only abroad, we did not have such vaccines, now we have created and have already registered it, and we are already supplying it to medical institutions, "the Kremlin website quoted Chemezov as saying. |
According to Vedomosti, the vaccine market in Russia is almost completely state-owned: 72% falls on federal purchases for the national calendar of preventive vaccinations. The national calendar determines the timing and volume of free universal immunization.[5]
