Prototype with the name "MedUza 008"

Concern Radioelectronic Technologies (KRET) of Rostec State Corporation at the forum presented a prototype device for the diagnosis and treatment of neoplasms using high-intensity focused ultrasound. This robotic complex, developed jointly with the FMBA of Russia, uses non-invasive technologies, does not violate the integrity of the skin and minimizes the risk of side effects in the treatment of oncology. Rostec announced this on September 20, 2022.

The device, called "MedUza 008," can be used to treat neoplasms using three non-invasive technologies for operative control and personalization of the study: ultrasound diagnostics, ultrasound HIFU therapy and ultrasound HIFU elastography.

HIFU therapy is a technique for the treatment of benign and malignant oncology. Its main plus is that it dispenses with medical intervention, so it does not require special training for patients and is much easier to tolerate them.

HIFU therapy is an effective method of treating benign and malignant neoplasms. Thanks to the MedUza 008 complex developed by KRET specialists, diseases can be detected in the early stages. In addition to high accuracy, the apparatus does not require the use of potent drugs or the introduction of a patient into anesthesia. In addition, HIFU therapy reduces the length of hospitalization, and the risk of side effects is minimized. Treatment can be carried out in several sessions and combined with other methods, "said Alexander Nazarov, Deputy General Director of Rostec.

To expand the functionality of the device, fusion technologies are used: remote treatment robot using an ultrasound unit for manipulation, combination data MRI ultrasonic and diagnostics, and others.

According to the plans of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia, in the next two years, industry is faced with the task of increasing the share of Russian medical equipment on the market to 50%. This development is of great importance for medicine, since it allows the removal of neoplasms in the thyroid and mammary glands, the most common types of tumors in the country. Also, the apparatus can be used to activate nanocapsules with drugs for treating cancer or stopping bleeding. Another area of ​ ​ use is the treatment of varicose leg diseases, which, according to epidemiological data, are observed in about 30% of patients, - said Maxim Motorin, Deputy General Director for the Development of Civilian Products of KRET JSC.

Ultrasound ablation, or HIFU therapy, is a high-tech method of local treatment of tumors based on exposure to high-intensity focused ultrasound waves, without damage to the surrounding skin, tissues and organs. The range of application of the method is quite wide - gynecology, oncology, urology, phlebology. Ultrasound ablation is also used in neurosurgery to treat essential and parkinsonian tremors. In Russia, this technique is available at the Federal Center for Brain and Neurotechnology of the FMBA of Russia.

HIFU therapy is one of the most promising and sought-after methods of exposure to benign and malignant tumors. In addition to high accuracy, it does not require the use of potent drugs or the introduction of a patient into anesthesia. More than 100 thousand ultrasonic ablations are made annually in the world, the number of such interventions in Russia amounted to about 5 thousand in 2021.
