2022: Development of high-strength optical cable

The Moscow company has developed an aviation optical cable of increased strength for on-board radioelectronic equipment, capable of replacing foreign analogues. This was announced on September 27, 2022 by the head of the Department of Investment and Industrial Policy of Moscow, which is part of the Complex of Economic Policy and Property and Land Relations of the capital, Vladislav Ovchinsky.

Cable and conductor products in Moscow for September 2022 are produced by 11 enterprises that are constantly improving their goods and increasing production volumes. Thus, one of the companies in the capital has developed an on-board high-strength aviation optical cable for complexes and systems of on-board radioelectronic equipment. Previously, such products were brought to Russia mainly from abroad. In the near future, the company plans to manufacture an experimental batch of such cables and conduct their preliminary tests. It is planned that the development will go into mass production in 2023, - said Vladislav Ovchinsky.

The article can be used for visualisation of flight parameters in navigation and radar systems. Due to the presence of distributed power elements, the cable is resistant to stretching, bending and crushing loads. At the same time, its diameter is 1.8 millimeters. The standard thickness of the development makes it compatible with foreign systems. Almost all the materials from which the cable is made are domestic.

The product has increased mechanical strength, does not have metal structural elements and is capable of providing high data transfer speed even in extreme overloads. Thus, the operating temperature range of these cables is from minus 60 to plus 150 degrees Celsius. They can also withstand a lightning strike. The development can be used in aviation, rocket science, the navy, as well as used for power lines as a sensitive element of current load meters, - said Andrey Gusev, head of the design and technological department of fiber-optic cables and cable assemblies of the Spetskabel enterprise.
