How many car dealers in Russia. Brands. Infographics
As of October 2024, 4040 official dealerships operated in Russia. For comparison, in October 2021, their number was 3143. Thus, for three years, an increase of 28.5% was recorded. This is stated in the materials of the analytical agency "Autostat," published on October 31, 2024.
In connection with the formed geopolitical situation, the structure of car dealers has undergone significant changes in the Russian Federation. In the pre-crisis period, European brands had the most points - 27.9% in 2021. At the same time, the share of Japanese and Chinese brands was at the same level - approximately 21%. However, against the background of sanctions, the share of European car dealers fell almost seven times, reaching 4.2% in October 2024. The indicator of Japanese brands decreased to 5.4%. At the same time, Chinese companies occupied 65.1% of the market.
The share of dealers of domestic brands has also risen, but not as significantly as that of Chinese ones - from 13.2% to 18.4%. For Korean manufacturers, the indicator during 2021-2024 decreased almost three times - from 12.9% to 4.4%.
If we consider individual brands, Lada (AvtoVAZ) has the largest dealer network in Russia: its number of points from October 2021 to October 2024 increased from 302 to 333. In second place in the 2024 ranking was the Chinese Chery with 223 dealerships, while three years earlier this place belonged to Kia, which had 199 points. In general, in addition to the Russian brand Lada, the Top 5 in terms of the number of dealerships for October 2024 includes exclusively Chinese suppliers: this is the aforementioned Chery, as well as Changan, Geely and Omoda. Former leaders Hyundai, Renault and Volkswagen have completely dropped out of the top five.[1][2]
Increase in the number of car dealers by 489 to 3653 dealerships
By mid-January 2024, 3,653 official dealerships for the sale and maintenance of passenger cars were operating in Russia, which is 489 more salons than a year earlier (in January 2023 there were 3,164 such points in the Russian Federation). This is evidenced by the data of "Autostat," published in January 2024. Experts take into consideration official dealerships (contracts) for the sale and maintenance of passenger cars, without taking into account service partners.
According to agency analysts, in 2023, new auto brands from China appeared in Russia, which opened their dealer networks from scratch. Jaecoo leads among them, which opened 158 car dealerships. The second place was taken by Jetour with 145 points of sale, the third - Kaiyi with 105. This is followed by BAIC (92 car dealerships), Livan (80), Tank (41), SMW (32) and Hongqi (19). In total, 19 new stamps from the PRC appeared in the country in a year.
The number of centers and previously present on the market Chinese manufacturers also increased. JAC 52 new showrooms appeared Changan , 51, Omoda 49, Geely 42, 37, 27 Voyah , FAW 25, Haval and 18. Exeed
Domestic brands have also worked to increase the number of their dealers. For example, Moskvich opened 71 showrooms last year, Evolute - 15, and 4 new car dealerships started selling Lada.
As for the terminated contracts, we are talking primarily about automakers from Europe, Japan, South Korea and the United States. The network was reduced in almost all manufacturers who left the Russian market, while in Chinese - increased to 65% of the total.
Experts of the Avtostat agency note that while maintaining the emerging trend in the car market, the share of Chinese and Russian manufacturers will continue to grow.[3]

Named the largest car dealers in Russia
In 2023, the total revenue of the 25 largest car dealers in Russia reached 1.5 trillion rubles, which is 56% more than in the previous year. These companies increased sales of new cars by 53% on an annualized basis - up to 412,852 units. Such data are reflected in the materials of the magazine "AvtoBusinessRevue," published on April 22, 2024.
The rating of car dealers in the Russian Federation, according to Forbes, in 2023 is headed by Rolf, whose revenue reached 323.87 billion rubles. This is 40% more compared to the previous year, when the company's sales were estimated at 231.6 billion rubles. In second place is Klyuchavto, whose annual sales jumped 84% from 130.02 billion to 239.19 billion rubles. Closes the top three "Avilon" with revenue of approximately 90.91 billion rubles at the end of 2023 against 74.36 billion rubles in 2022 (plus 22%).
In terms of the number of new cars sold in 2023, the palm went to the Major dealer, who sold about 41 thousand cars, showing an increase of 64% compared to the previous year. In second place is Avtomir with 36 thousand cars sold and an increase of 29% on an annualized basis. Closes the top three "Klyuchavto," which sold 29,835 cars, which is 60% more compared to 2022.
In total, the AvtoBusinessRevue rating includes 50 car dealers who control about half of the Russian car market. In 2023, they sold a total of 567,972 cars, which is 58% more than a year earlier. Experts explain such a significant growth by the low base of 2022, when sales of new cars in the Russian Federation decreased by 58.7% compared to 2021. The study also says that in 2023, 1,568 car showrooms were opened in Russia, and 997 were closed.[4]
The share of Russian salons selling Chinese cars rose to 65%
By the end of 2023, 65% of car dealerships in Russia were selling cars from Chinese manufacturers, which is 34 percentage points more than a year earlier. Thus, over the year, about 2.3 thousand dealerships of Chinese brands appeared in the Russian Federation. Such data are given in the study "Opening of Cars" and "Auto Business Review" published in January 2024.
According to TASS with reference to this report, in 2023, almost 1.6 thousand new car dealerships were opened in Russia, of which 1.4 thousand were Chinese brands.
The most actively developing Chinese auto brand in Russia in 2023 was JAC, which increased the number of car dealerships by 73% - to 121 (ninth place in the overall rating). The leader in the number of Chery dealers with 207 showrooms (+ 13.1% per year). On the second and third lines are Geely (170 salons, + 19.7%) and Omoda (165 salons, + 52.8%).
According to experts, in 2024 such an increase in the number of Chinese showrooms in the Russian Federation should not be expected. Experts predict that their share will reach no more than 70% of the total number of car dealerships, provided that the current economic situation remains. It is expected that by the summer of 2024 the number of dealerships may decrease due to rivalry in the market and an oversupply of showrooms that have opened.
Sergei Udalov, executive director of the Avtostat analytical agency, said that the share of Chinese cars among new cars in Russia reached 61% in 2023. Compared to 2022, the share of cars from the PRC has almost doubled (37% in December 2022).
Chinese manufacturers have filled the Russian market due to the lack of alternative and competition. In 2024, when the key rate is reduced, there will be an incentive to increase car sales. Therefore, we can assume the share of Chinese car sales at 65%, - predicts the general director of the Avtodom dealer holding Andrei Olkhovsky.[5] |
Growth of 1.5 times the number of dealers of Chinese car brands

As of mid-January 2023, the total number of official dealers of Chinese brands in Russia was 1,053. Considering that in January 2022 this figure was 723, it turns out that over the year it grew by 330, or 46%. Thus, today the "Chinese" have the most dealers in our country.
