At one of the leading enterprises in the rocket and space industry, GKNPC named after M.V. Khrunichev (part of the Roscosmos Group of Companies), where the JSC «Proton» and Angara launch vehicles are produced, a project is underway to introduce a virtual modeling system based on the Russian package of engineering analysis programs "Logos." At the end of 2021, a grant agreement with RFRIT was concluded for him in the amount of about 23.7 million rubles. The total cost of the project under the agreement is estimated at 47.4 million rubles. To talk about how the project is progressing, journalists were invited to the enterprise on April 4, 2023, on the day of the 122nd anniversary of the birth of Mikhail Vasilyevich Khrunichev.

Logos, software of the CAE (Computer-Aided Engineering) class, which has been developed by RFNC-VNIIEF (part of Rosatom State Corporation) since the mid-2000s, GKNPC named after M.V. Khrunicheva plans to replace imported solutions that he uses for engineering analysis. The enterprise has a whole range of imported software, including Siemens: "what we just did not have and did not have, except that there are probably no Ansys products," one of the representatives of the GKNPC named after M.V. Khrunichev shared with TAdviser.

The number of Logos licenses already purchased is still small, and 25 users are trained to work with the system, TAdviser cited data on the site. The scale so far, one might say, is pilot.

Regarding the timing of the complete refusal of imported engineering software at the GKNPC named after M.V. Khrunichev are guided by the decree of the President of the Russian Federation No. 166 of March 30, 2022 on measures to ensure the technological independence and security of critical information infrastructure (CII). "The decree indicates milestones, and we strive for these milestones," Vladimir Afanasyev, deputy general director for digital transformation of the enterprise, told reporters on the sidelines of the legendary workshop No. 22, where the final assembly of launch vehicles is taking place .

But you need to understand that there are things that are now quite difficult to import substitution, he added. However, says Vladimir Afanasyev, there are few of them, and it is planned to work with them separately.

At the same time, import substitution is only one of the aspects on which the implementation of Logos is aimed. The State Scientific Research Center named after M.V. Khrunichev says that they expect to provide better, more efficient calculations, and also optimize costs by replacing part of the field tests with numerical modeling. At the intersection of the three above tasks, the Logos implementation project appeared.

At the expense of the RFRIT grant, together with the Logos developers, the capabilities of this software product are being finalized to the "world level," says Vladimir Afanasyev.

I must say that the GKNPC named after M.V. Khrunichev has been actively interacting with the developers of Logos for at least five years, but earlier - without grant support. Head of the Department for Product Life Cycle Management of the GKNPC named after M.V. Khrunicheva Rinat Ismagilov noted that since the beginning of the interaction, the product has already been significantly improved in order to better meet the needs of their enterprise. And the Logos interface has changed a lot, it has begun to look more modern.

The most relevant for the enterprise now are Logos modules for internal and external hydrogas dynamics and combustion.

In the State Scientific Research Center named after M.V. Khrunichev, for example, it is necessary to solve many problems in external aerodynamics - the flow of air of any model. One of the important tasks is associated with jumps in the seal: what pressure acts on different fragments and parts of the rocket. This data is then transmitted to strong people who count the loads so that, in simple words, the rocket does not break during the flight. There are many tasks related to chemical kinetics in calculations in the field of combustion.

According to the TA from the GKNPC named after M.V. Khrunichev, the developers supplement the software with functionality. For example, you have ordered the ability to project characteristic velocities onto surfaces. This is important, since when designing rocket and space technology, it is necessary to determine different velocity fields around an object. This functionality is unique and has no analogues in foreign software, according to the enterprise.

As part of the implementation project, Logos is being verified in order to fully use it in the future. At the same time, something has already been deluded and is used in real activity.

Our task is to ensure that projects that were supported by the legal commission and recognized as particularly significant, and which were supported by RFRIT, are implemented in accordance with the deadlines, with calendar plans. We ensure that they are monitored. And, of course, it is necessary that interaction within industrial centers of competence is built effectively: that those enterprises that experience the same needs as the GKNPC named after M.V. Khrunichev, and the Keldysh Center, and TsNIImash (also part of Roscosmos - approx. TAdviser), already at the implementation of the first stages, constantly confirmed and verified that they need solutions with such functionality. It is these solutions that replace foreign products that become inaccessible, "said Alexander Pavlov, General Director of RFRIT, in a conversation with TAdviser.

Part of the calculated tasks in the State Scientific and Research Center named after M.V. Khrunichev is performed on its own servers and workstations, and part - remotely on the powerful Rosatom cluster, connecting via secure channels, one of the representatives of the enterprise told TAdviser. So far, this is a lease of computing power within the framework of mutual assistance, free of charge, he says. GKNPC named after M.V. Khrunichev want to acquire their own computing cluster.

Roscosmos also has a centralized project for migration to the Russian PLM - to the T-FLEX product from Top System. It covers, among other things, the GKNPC named after M.V. Khrunichev. Here it is impossible not to remember that in 2010 the project of introducing software from Siemens PLM Software in the State Scientific Research Center named after M.V. Khrunichev was announced as the largest in Russia at that time[1].

In addition, for example, in the active phase in the GKNPC named after M.V. Khrunichev now, as in many state-owned companies, a gradual process of moving from Windows to Linux. According to TAdviser, on Astra Linux, in particular. We are talking about replacement in the server part and at workplaces, said Vladimir Afanasyev, answering a TAdviser question. By 2025, it is planned to complete this transition by 100%, and as of April 2023, about 15% of jobs are covered. Also, the State Scientific and Research Center named after M.V. Khrunichev is on the way to replace the imported DBMS with the domestic one.
