Recently, a new center for design development and scientific research was opened at UEC-Kuznetsov. Equipped with advanced technology and modern IT infrastructure, OKB is developing promising power plants for aviation, space and power. It organized 500 high-tech jobs for design engineers and technical service workers.

The center has engineering and design systems, as well as its own data storage and processing systems. And it was decided on the basis of this center to develop a new PD-8V engine - the largest[4] engine[5] for domestic heavy helicopters based on the PD-8 gas generator.

The general director of the UEC at a meeting with Mishustin in August 2023 noted that the implementation of all the tasks set is impossible without modern software in the field of design, product life cycle management, production management. According to him, UEC is actively conducting an import substitution program, including in the field of PDM/PLM systems, engineering analysis systems and calculations.

Within the framework of industrial competence centers in the UEC, two projects are being implemented with state support for the creation of CAD/CAM/PDM and ERP systems. And thanks to state support, more than 450 jobs are equipped with Compass software, which is developing all the newly created elements of preparation and equipment for production.

In the field of product design and lifecycle management, UEC mainly imports software Siemens - its long-time partner, now, obviously, former. In 2013, the UEC entered into a corporate agreement with Siemens announced a long-term strategic partnership. According to its conditions, the PLM solution from Siemens was to be used at all UEC enterprises as a single standard for computer-aided design and life cycle management of created products.

The parties then agreed on the unification of approaches to the use of software, which at that time they saw as "a key element for increasing the management and production mobility of UEC enterprises."

Earlier, in March 2022, the Rybinsk enterprise "UEC-Saturn" (also part of the UEC) began to introduce the Russian CAD "Compass-3D" as part of the import substitution of engineering software[6]. This coincided with the moment when on the eve of President Vladimir Putin signed a decree "On measures to ensure the technological independence and security of the critical information infrastructure of the Russian Federation" and decided to stop state customers from March 31 purchases of foreign software used at critical infrastructure facilities.
