2024: Design of the Rumo-535 ship engine

The Nizhny Novgorod Plant of Energy and Oil and Gas Engineering of Rumo JSC is preparing for serial production of a ship engine RUMO-535 its own design. According to its technical characteristics, it is able to replace foreign analogues on ships under construction. ASCON announced this on July 5, 2024.

In the design of the engine, UMO designers used ASCON software, including the KOMPAS-3D 3D modeling system, the Pilot: PLM product lifecycle management system, the VERTICAL process computer-aided design system, and the Pauline: MDM regulatory reference information management system. With the help of software tools, digital models of parts and assembly units of the product and design documentation were developed, as well as strength calculations were performed on the basis of the obtained 3D models.

The ship's 1200 kW RUMO-535 diesel engine is designed for use on river-sea class vessels as the main engine, main or backup electric unit. Until now, this niche in Russian shipbuilding has been occupied by foreign manufacturers.

The new diesel engine uses a completely domestic element base: all parts, components and systems, as well as materials and raw materials are produced in Russia. In early 2023, a prototype engine was manufactured, and in the fall, after a test cycle, the power unit received a Certificate of Type Approval of the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping. RUMO JSC has a Certificate of supplier of marine diesel engines and power plants for the needs of USC Group companies of the highest category "A."
