Digital twin will help unmanned trucks drive safely through the Central Ring Road

Customers: Single Operator (formerly Central Ring Road (TsKAD))

Product: M-Telematics: Onboard device V2X (Vehicle-To-Everything)

Project date: 2022/05  - 2025/04

2025: Self-driving truck traffic launch

On April 9, 2025, a ceremony was held to launch traffic unmanned trucks on the toll highway around Moscow -. Central Ring Road (TsKAD) Developed " Telematics Concern TsKAD digital twin will provide additional traffic safety of highly automated transport means (VATS) and effective assistance for transport flow control.

The digital twin is an accurate model of the motorway, reflecting all changes in the road situation in real time. It is based on V2X (Vehicle-to-Everything) technology, which allows you to exchange data between cars and smart road infrastructure. This allows drones to "see" outside their sensors, receive information about accidents, traffic jams, changes in weather conditions, car stops on the highway and rely on this data while driving.

The digital twin for the Central Ring Road is the second project of SoftTelematics to create an accurate virtual model of the highway based on V2X technology. It allows self-driving cars to "see" the situation outside their sensors and share real-time traffic, weather and road incident data with infrastructure. The digital twin of the Central Ring Road has become "smarter," it can receive information about the situation on the road not only through ASUDD, but directly from video analytics systems, which makes data exchange even more efficient, - commented Dmitry Kazarinov, General Director of SoftTelematics.

The development of infrastructure for unmanned transportation is carried out within the framework of the federal project "Unmanned logistics corridors." It provides for the creation by 2030 of a single network of routes with a length of 20,000 km, provided by digital twins. This will significantly reduce accidents, speed up cargo transportation and strengthen Russia's position in the international logistics market.

2022: Testing of the V2X onboard device at the Central Ring Road

At the "smart" Central Ring Road, tests were carried out on a connected car equipped with domestic V2X (Vehicle-To-Everything) equipment developed by the Telematics concern. This was announced on July 14, 2022 to TAdviser by representatives of the concern.

The V2X onboard device allows cars to communicate with each other and receive commands from the road infrastructure. The technology is expected to help drivers and autonomous drones prevent accidents, reduce traffic jams and travel times. The manufacturer of the V2X device is Mosobletelematics, a member of the Telematics concern.

The Central Ring Road has an automatic traffic control system for the next generation, in addition, the road is equipped with technology for interacting with unmanned vehicles. Using the technology (V2X) used, the road from the base stations sends drivers to the car on the road warning screen and messages about the need to slow down, stop and rebuild. In turn, unmanned vehicles will be able to receive commands and autonomously make decisions on response. The technology will inform the incident in advance and thus shorten the reaction time. On highways at high speeds, in winter and difficult climatic conditions, this is especially important when, when an emergency occurs ahead, the score goes by a split second.

"The future in which cars respond to the road situation," communicate "with each other and with the highway infrastructure, make driving safer and more convenient, has already come. The most "smart" road in Russia with the necessary infrastructure capable of interacting with transport is the Central Ring Road, and the device was tested on it, "commented Marcel Nigmetzyanov, General Director of the Unified Operator.

According to the top manager, this is the first demonstration of domestic V2X equipment on real public roads in Russia. During the tests, 14 different scenarios were successfully worked out: accidents, the appearance of people on the highway, congestion, road work, reduced visibility, slippery road and others. The device was also successfully tested at the training ground when interacting with autonomous transport on an unmanned truck.

"Modern routes can and should be technological. Roads are able to help navigate the situation, give commands, improve safety, reduce mortality and injuries in road accidents. The necessary advanced technologies for cars and for creating a smart infrastructure of the road are already produced by us, "said Gennady Kupinsky, General Director of Mosobletelematics.

As he specified, Mosobletelematics has developed a V2X device on the domestic stack, while it meets international standards and, at the same time, meets the goals of import substitution. In the near future, it is planned to test the second key element of the V2X system - road base stations.
