Partnership Agreement for Development of "Digital Shipbuilding Platform"

Onega Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Plant JSC (OSSZ JSC), Petrobalt PKB and ASCON signed a partnership agreement as part of the development of the Digital Shipbuilding Platform, a software solution for the design and construction of marine equipment facilities. The first project on which the platform will be worked out will be a cargo ship - a self-propelled self-opening platform of the PBHB6 project (designer - PKB Petrobalt). ASCON announced this on December 16, 2025.

The shalanda project has already been used in the deployed testing of the Digital Shipbuilding Platform in September 2025. Then the designers of the Petrobalt Design Bureau and the experts of St. Petersburg State Technical University were among the first in the industry to apply the new solution in practice within the framework of the Corpus specialization.

The immediate development plans are to continue testing the platform and form an information model of the vessel for its transfer to the manufacturer. The partnership of JSC OSSZ, PKB Petrobalt and ASCON will help implement seamless transfer from the designer to the shipyard not just a set of drawings, but the necessary parts of the vessel's information model, including the technological structure.

The agreement with the engineering software developer ASCON is a logical development of the Digital Shipyard strategy, taking into account the development of the Digital Shipbuilding Platform. The shalanda project with Petrobalt PKB will be a good opportunity to test domestic digital solutions in real production, "said Tatiana Zaytseva, head of the digitalization project at OSSZ JSC.

Due to the introduction of new technologies and the transition to domestic solutions, the shipbuilding model itself is changing. Digital platforms connect the stages of the ship's life cycle, ensuring digital continuity of processes. We are moving from designing drawings to designing the life cycle of the vessel. This agreement is another step towards this model of shipbuilding, when the digital PKB "Petrobalt," the digital shipyard "OSSZ" and the developer of the digital shipbuilding platform ASCON together, in a seamless digital environment, work with the shalanda project. At the same time, the project is designed in the form of an information model for its full compliance with the real needs of the customer, the given deadlines and budget, - said Ilya Shcherbakov, General Director of Petrobalt Design Bureau.

Shipbuilding is an industry with a long chain of cooperation, in which the designer, equipment manufacturers, numerous contractors, and a shipyard are involved. In partnership with the Onega Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Plant, where, within the framework of the Digital Shipyard project, the adaptation of our PILOT systems continues: PLM and KOMPAS-3D, and Petrobalt Design Bureau, we will work out a continuous end-to-end digital chain. This will avoid data loss and time when transferring data from KB to the manufacturer, from project to metal. It is symbolic that the agreement is signed on the day of laying the first shaland ships, - commented Alexander Petrov, director of the department for the development of industry solutions for shipbuilding ASCON.

Completion of the Design Engineers Development Program

The program of advanced training of design engineers of the enterprise and employees of the Digital Transformation Factory of St. Petersburg State Technical University for working with the KOMPAS-3D 3D design system has been completed at Petrobalt Design Bureau. The specialists have mastered the basic functionality of the CAD system and received the corresponding certificates. The training course for shipbuilders was conducted by ASCON Northwest. ASCON announced this on September 19, 2025.

The central event of the program was the demonstration of the capabilities of the Digital Shipbuilding Platform being developed at ASCON in the volume of the next technical release.

Within the framework of the test stand deployed on the territory of the enterprise, employees of the Petrobalt Design Bureau were one of the first in the industry to use the solution in practice. Designers tested the Corpus specialization tools. Despite the fact that the system is at the stage of active development, they managed to model the elements of the hull structures for the self-propelled self-opening shalanda of the PBHB6 project.

During the testing, practical proposals were received from employees of Petrobalt Design Bureau to refine and improve functionality.

Carrying out such a set of activities - from training to live testing - is of great importance to us. This not only increases the level of ownership of the tools of our key specialists, but also allows us to directly influence the development of domestic software in order to ultimately get a solution that meets the needs of the shipbuilding industry. We are confident that our wishes will be taken into account, which will make further work with the Digital Shipbuilding Platform as effective as possible, - commented Stanislav Timofeev, First Deputy General Director - Chief Engineer of Petrobalt Design Bureau.
