VTB removed Microsoft Exchange and switched to Russian collaboration platforms

VTB Bank has completed the transition from the Microsoft Exchange mail solution to the Russian VK Workspace platforms from VK Tech and Dion from T1 IT Holding. The replacement of foreign software was carried out for all bank employees who use corporate mail to solve work problems. The new system is an integration of the VK WorkSpace mail server and the Dion calendar and video conferencing user interface. This was announced on October 12, 2025 by the deputy head of the technological block - Senior Vice President of VTB Sergey Bezbogov.

The integration of Otkritie, RNKB and Post Bank increased the volume of VTB postal system data by 18%. The number of active mailboxes of bank employees increased by 37.1% - from 70 thousand to 96 thousand addresses. By the beginning of 2025, VTB completed its merger with Otkritie Bank and closed the acquisition of Post Bank. By mid-2025, the merger with the RNKB was completed. The process of merging with Post Bank should be completed by mid-2026.

Sergey Bezbogov noted that every day VTB employees receive almost 9 million incoming letters and send 750 thousand outgoing messages in working mail. Every hour 550-650 thousand messages pass through the mailboxes of employees. This data is relevant for September 2025. For comparison: in September 2024, up to 7.5 million letters a day came to the post office at VTB. The increase in mail traffic is associated with an increase in the number of employees after the merger of banks.

Deputy Head of the Technological Unit - Senior Vice President of VTB Sergey Bezbogov stressed that the project for the transition from Microsoft Exchange is unique. According to him, the bank not only transferred employees to the Russian analogue of a foreign solution - for this, an innovative platform was created, combining the most progressive developments of recognized market leaders VK Tech and T1. The platform is a tight integration of VK Tech's VK WorkSpace back-end mail and the proven Dion calendar user interface and video conferencing service.
