The volume of consumption of resources of the internal cloud platform, localized for the tasks of companies and individual services of Yandex Group, is not taken into account in the revenue structure of Yandex.Cloud.

In 2020, the number of large clients of the Yandex.Cloud platform more than 2 times increased, and their consumption of Yandex.Cloud services increased almost 5 times. Large customers accounted for 48% of Yandex.Cloud's total revenue.

According to the project, 270 Yandex.Cloud customers belong to large consumers of cloud services. Among them are such companies as, for example, Leroy Merlin, Ozon, M. Video, VTB, SkyEng, HSE, etc. Such customers process large amounts of data, actively develop corporate and industry digital platforms to manage internal business processes, launch and support new applications and services.

Based on the experience of Yandex.Cloud, the company has identified 4 main scenarios for the consumption of cloud services by companies:

  • Migrate enterprise applications and services from your own infrastructure to the cloud
  • development of a unified environment for development, testing and launch of new business applications (digital products);
  • Create an enterprise data platform for data storage, processing, and analysis
  • application of services based on artificial intelligence and machine learning tools.

Yandex.Cloud believes that in the next few years, business will massively use clouds as holistic platforms, on which, on request, you can get all the necessary services to solve business development problems.

The company told TAdviser that they see a significant increase in competition in certain segments of the cloud market. The business associated with cloud services for mainly corporate clients has been developed in the past few years by other large companies whose main business is not related to the provision of IT services and products to this sector in a classic form. Among them Mail.ru Group and MTS.

The Russian cloud market is still moving towards saturation, significantly lagging behind the saturation level of Western markets, they shared their opinion with TAdviser in the company.

In the fall of 2020, IDC predicted that spending on public and private clouds in the Russian market will grow in 2020 by 21.8% year-on-year in dollars, and until 2025 will grow at a CAGR of 18.6%.

2019: Yandex.Cloud received its first major revenue, but has not yet made a profit

According to the Kontur.Fokus database, Yandex.Cloud, which develops Yandex's cloud-related business, received revenue of about 174 million rubles in 2019. Previously, the company did not disclose the financial indicators of its activities in absolute terms. In the first year of its operation, the company, created in 2018, earned 1.1 million rubles.

Yandex.Cloud has not yet reached a profit. In 2019, its net loss amounted to 13.2 million rubles, in 2018 - 4.6 million rubles. The company did not comment on when it expects to reach profitability.

Yandex.Cloud told TAdviser that during the year the number of paying customers in all segments steadily increased: large companies, medium and small businesses.

Earlier, the company reported that over the year the number of services it provides increased to 27. They can be divided into 4 groups:

  • Scalable infrastructures are virtual machines and disks;
  • Data processing and management services - databases, etc.
  • services for creating cloud applications;
  • machine learning and AI services.

The greatest demand remained for basic cloud services - IaaS, they say in Yandex.Cloud. At the same time, managed database services, Kubernetes, Yandex SpeechKit (speech synthesis and recognition) became the fastest growing.

Yandex.Cloud added that amid the pandemic and economic crisis in 2020, they retained growth themes.

In a crisis situation, not all companies have reduced consumption and frozen projects.
