Determination
The systems of corporate wireless e-mail provide availability of e-mail accounts of workers on their mobile devices by means of mobile networks with the participation of the local client software and the gateway connected to e-mail server.
Classification
In Gartner methodology all solutions for corporate wireless e-mail can be separated into two groups:
- Corporate mail servers or services. The most part of offers includes the built-in support of mobile devices. As a part of the leading vendors: Microsoft IBM and Novell (GroupWise). Microsoft Exchange Server and IBM Lotus Notes Domino - the largest players of the market.
- Corporate products of wireless e-mail. Here the program gateways and e-mail clients functioning on several platforms enter. BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) from Research In Motion (RIM) supports the BlackBerry smartphones. Good Technology, Excitor and others offer products of multiplatform support (for example, Android from Google, the Apple iOS, Corporation Belle Nokia (before Symbian) and Microsoft Windows Phone).
Suppliers of services, such as Fujitsu Siemens, IBM, HP and others offering the managed or hosting services of wireless e-mail for the enterprises including the mobile operators providing similar services in this classification are not considered.
Overview of the market: 2011
The world market of corporate wireless e-mail is rather developed. According to the researches Gartner, the most part of new users in this market appears as a result of expansion of the previous deployments. Basic opportunities of wireless products and services become interchanged, support is provided at the same time by standardization and interoperability. All suppliers of mail solutions offer mobile functionality without collection of the mezzanine board.
Suppliers of servers of e-mail note the increasing number of implementations by customers of simple mobile opportunities in the solutions, in combination with products of management of basic data (MDM) or services which can use security policies and control both wireless e-mail, and other applications. This trend of commercialization forces suppliers of wireless mail gateways to strengthen and increase the competition, forces them to be differentiated in other areas, such as joint activity, software applications, management of basic data and cloud tools.

In general, at the market there are two different types of the vendors offering functionality of corporate wireless e-mail:
- The suppliers of email (offering wireless support as functionality of the server or a cloud service) from shares more than 80% of a total quantity of accounts of wireless corporate e-mail. In this segment Microsoft, on considerable removal from it - IBM and other producers of servers of e-mail dominates. IBM entered the market after others, but now makes up with the wireless addition to e-mail Lotus Notes Traveler. Google also becomes market participant with the cloud mail service.
- The suppliers of software products of wireless e-mail (offering software of gateways) from 18% of market shares of a total quantity of accounts of wireless corporate e-mail. Here leaders are RIM and Good Technology, then there are Excitor and Notify Technology. The remained 2% have on telecom operators and Internet service providers of services, the proposing own wireless mail solutions.
Depersonalization (as a result of unification and standardization) products puts pressure upon solution providers of wireless e-mail. As a result, some producers abandoned the market, the report says Gartner. Among them Sybase, Synchronica and CommonTime. RIM also feels considerable pressure because of the growing number of implementations at the enterprises of devices iPhone, iPad and Android which are often carried out within programs of own planning (BYO).
The companies increase support for these devices, implementing possibilities of servers of e-mail and additional abilities to manage, safety by MDM tools/services or by means of the protected platforms of wireless e-mail from Good Technology and Excitor. RIM loses positions as the companies reduce or stop deployments of BlackBerry, transferring investments into the wireless platforms of e-mail providing support of a set of devices or MDM tools.
