Information technologies in Rosgeology

The article is devoted to the development of information technologies in the Rosgeology holding.

Content

Rosgeologia JSC is a Russian multidisciplinary geological holding established in 2011 in accordance with the decree of the President of the Russian Federation for the integrated geological study of the subsoil and reproduction of the country's mineral resource base based on advanced geological, geophysical and geochemical technologies. The holding is included in the list of strategic joint-stock companies and has competencies that allow carrying out a full range of geological exploration work for all types of minerals.

Rosgeology: Development of geological software to replace imported software will cost 500-600 million rubles

Within three years, Rosgeology expects to close the need for software by 80% at the expense of Russian developments. This follows from the speech of the Chairman of the Board of Rosgeology Sergei Gorkov on November 10, 2022. According to him, at the moment, as before, the exploration and service holding is about 90% dependent on imported software.

Rosgeology strives to ensure a comprehensive geological study of the subsoil and reproduction of the mineral resource base of Russia based on advanced geological, geophysical and geochemical technologies. According to Gorkov, the holding has identified four areas for itself - two in the field of oil and gas and two in solid minerals - for which the development of its own software is necessary, and has identified the vendors on the basis of whose solutions this software will be created. Russian companies have already done a lot of basic work, so there is a foundation from which you can quickly start.

The term for the implementation of these software development projects is estimated at three years: "We believe that during this time it is quite possible to cover 80%, and I think this is a real term," says the head of Rosgeology. And 20% of the software that will remain, "these are already little things that are not important in the first place."

The necessary investments in software developments in the holding were estimated at 500-600 million rubles - "quite uplifting investments both in volume and in time."

At the same time, the head of Rosgeology emphasizes, the task is not to copy the functionality of imported solutions of geological software, but to create their own products with the best parameters. Rosgeology works with complex geology - both with hard fossils and in oil and gas. "There is simply no other such company in the world," said Sergei Gorkov. Schlumberger, for example, works only in oil and gas. This feature of Rosgeology allows you to perform the so-called penetration of technologies, when methods from different spheres enrich each other.

Now we are "sewing" these methods into new software projects and want to create software that will not only meet the current standard, but will also be better than Western counterparts, - said the head of Rosgeology.

Sergey Gorkov did not announce the names of Russian companies, on the basis of the development of which it is planned to create their own software. Rosgeology is part of the industrial competence center (ICC) "Subsoil Use." Working with large customers within the framework of the ICC involves the possibility of state co-financing the development of the software they need (in more detail here and). here

In July 2022, at a strategic session with the participation of Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko and the head of the Ministry of Digital Science Maksut Shadayev, as TAdviser found out, Geomix (developed by RT-Engineering, a subsidiary of Rostec), GridPoint Dinamix, Agr Softtware. They are considered as possible suppliers of software alternatives from Micromine, Schlumberger, Paradigm, Mine Vision.

In connection with the restriction of access to imported software in the field of subsoil use, at the same meeting with Chernyshenko, such possible problems for the industry as low accuracy of modeling mining and geological processes and returning the industry back to paper, low speed of processing and analyzing geodata, loss of the subsoil use industry from lack of information. Another potential problem identified is the lack of automatic collection and processing of geological data, which leads to an increase in the timing of geological exploration.

So far, Rosgeology enterprises are working on already purchased imported software. Geological software does not change quickly, and you can continue to work on existing solutions for several years, while your own are created, follows from the speech of Sergei Gorkov.

He also noted that in Soviet times there was its own methodology and developments in the field of interpretive geological models, but in the 90s time was lost, and a high dependence on foreign software was formed.

However, software is only one of the links of the existing larger dependence in the field of subsoil use: Russia imports raw materials, including more than 20 metals, despite the fact that they can be mined in their country. "It so happened - it was easier to buy on the market, well, they bought on the market," explains Sergey Gorkov. Now that import has become more complicated due to sanctions and logistics problems, the course is to intensify its own development and production, because this is a matter of sovereignty.

A country with such sizes, with such geology should mine itself and not try to buy abroad the types of metals that we ourselves can produce, - said the head of Rosgeology. - Unfortunately, geology is such an industry in which not much money has been invested since the Soviet period, and technological backwardness was associated with insufficient investment in fixed assets.

In the past three years, Rosgeology has been implementing a modernization program. For less than three years, about 16.8 billion rubles were invested in this, of which 12.8 billion were the holding's own funds. In 2022, investments amount to 6.8 billion rubles - "this is a record of annual investments since the post-Soviet era." At the same time, 4 billion rubles were allocated by the state as additional capitalization, and the bulk of the funds are directed to the purchase of various necessary equipment.

More than 80% of all equipment supplied under the modernization program is Russian, says Sergey Gorkov, and imported is imported mainly from friendly countries.

Head of Rosgeology: We need 5 years to replace foreign software with Russian

Rosgeologia will take at least 5 years to replace foreign software with Russian software. This was announced by the general director of the state holding Sergei Gorkov in an interview with RBC ( published on June 22, 2022).

According to him, the imminent rejection of foreign software, which accounts for 95% of software products in the infrastructure of Rosgeology, is impossible. The problem is that while the enterprise is working on what it is, but after some time it will be necessary to update, and the licenses no longer apply.

Head of Rosgeology: We need 5 years to replace foreign software with Russian

The head of the Center for Competencies in Import Substitution in the Field of Information and Communication Technologies (CKIT), former deputy head of the Ministry of Telecom and Mass Communications Ilya Massukh noted that import substitution in the terms specified by Sergei Gorky violates the requirement.

According to Massukh, almost all objects with which Rosgeologia is associated are significant, that is, fall into the described criteria. Thus, it is necessary to replace foreign software not in five years, but in 2.5 years. The expert points out that the Russian authorities are allocating enough money for software development, and there are already some solutions, so we need to accelerate.

One of the most acute problems in the transition to Russian software is that now in Russia there are no fully functional software products that automate the processing of geological information, the press service of Rosgeology told the publication.

Earlier, Rosgeologia, together with the Ministry of Digital Engineering, created an industry technological accelerator for import substitution of foreign software in geological exploration. Sergey Gorkov says that by June 2022 there are more than 20 applied solutions of Russian developers, nine of which have been put into commercial operation. As part of import substitution, the state holding together with the Russian company developed the software and hardware complex "Geologist's Tablet," Gorkov notes. It can work in 30-degree frost and has dust and moisture protection.[1]

Placement in Skolkovo of the R&D center of Rosgeology

Rosgeology and the Skolkovo Foundation (ВЭБ.РФ Group) entered into a cooperation agreement. The document was signed by the general director - chairman of the board of Rosgeology Sergei Gorkov and chairman of the Skolkovo Foundation Arkady Dvorkovich. This was reported on June 10, 2021 in Skolkovo.

Rosgeology has placed the Rosgeo R&D Center (research and development work) on the territory of Skolkovo. It will develop new, primarily digital technologies for geology and geological exploration. One of the key enterprises of the research and production cluster - the Central Geophysical Expedition (CGE) - is a pioneer in digital geology. Skolkovo already has a number of startups implementing projects, the foundations of which were created in the CGE.
