2023: How the digitalization of Karachay-Cherkessia is going

At the end of January 2024, the head of Karachay-Cherkessia (KCR) Rashid Temrezov held a working meeting with the Minister of Digital Development of the region Valery Medovy. The latter reported on the results of work for 2023 and the prospects for further digitalization in the republic. According to Medovy, over 2 years, the KCR has improved its position in the following areas of digital transformation:

  • personnel training;
  • introduction of electronic document management and interdepartmental electronic interaction;
  • an increase in the number of public services;
  • operation of the Residents Feedback Platform. In particular, we are talking about the creation of state tablets of all state organizations in order to ensure the availability of information for citizens and improve feedback.

In August 2023, Rashid Temrezov, at a meeting with the Minister of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media of the RFMaksut Shadayev, discussed issues of further digitalization of the region. In particular, they agreed:

  • work out the issue of increasing the quota of settlements participating in the project "Elimination of digital inequality" on the territory of the Karachay-Cherkess Republic, from 1 to 5;
  • carry out the necessary measures to provide the Kart Jurth aul (1002 inhabitants), which does not have a mobile Internet access, with an LTE base station;
  • install four LTE base stations on the A-156 highway, two LTE base stations on promising tourist destinations "Dukka," "Dukka 2000," Phia;
  • increase the existing capacities of mobile networks in the villages of Arkhyz-Romantic and Arkhyz.

Valery Medovy at the end of January 2024 noted that in 2022-2023. in the KCR, an additional 133 base stations of cellular communication were installed, which made it possible to significantly expand the coverage area. In addition, the Minister of Digital Development of the KCR drew attention to the fact that by the end of 2023 Karachay-Cherkessia is part of the leading group in the overall rating of digital transformation of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation.[1]

2024: Growth of tourist flow to 2.2 million people

The tourist flow to Karachay-Cherkessia reached 2.2 million visitors in 2024, an increase of 100 thousand people compared to 2023. This became known on January 10, 2025.

According to Interfax, the republic became the leader in early booking for the New Year holidays among the ski resorts of Russia. The resorts of the region were also among the most popular summer destinations in 2024 among Russian tourists.

As part of the development of tourist infrastructure, the tourist center of the Dombai resort was modernized in 2024. On the territory of the resort "Arkhyz" , the first cable car with cabins equipped with transparent panoramic floors was put into operation.

In 2024, seven tourist routes were passported in the republic. 90 specialists of the tourism industry, including guides, guide-translators and instructors-guides, passed professional certification.

On the territory of Karachay-Cherkessia there are about 700 tourist accommodation facilities, including hotels, recreation centers and boarding houses. The ski infrastructure of the region is represented by 18 cable cars and 30 tracks of varying degrees of complexity, the total length of which exceeds 50 km.

The tourism industry of the republic is showing stable growth - in 2023, 2.1 million tourists visited the region, which is 10% higher than in 2022. The development of tourist infrastructure and the expansion of the range of services contribute to an increase in the attractiveness of the resorts of Karachay-Cherkessia in both winter and summer.

In recent years, the republic has significantly expanded opportunities for outdoor activities, offering tourists modern ski complexes, equipped according to international highway standards and developed hotel infrastructure. Special attention is paid to the training of professional personnel to ensure a high level of service and safety of vacationers.[2]

Attack by unknown persons at the traffic police post. One employee died

In Karachay-Cherkessia, near the village of Mara-Ayagy, on April 28, 2024, unknown assailants attacked a traffic police post, opening fire on it and using an improvised explosive device.

According to preliminary information, one law enforcement officer was killed, four more were injured. As a result of the return fire, three attackers were eliminated.

According to some reports, the same group that attacked police officers in Karachayevsk a week earlier may be behind the new attack.

On April 22, 2024, in Karachayevsk, unknown persons shot an UAZ car with police officers in the Lower Market area. Two employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs died on the spot, another with gunshot wounds was taken to the hospital.

According to the Investigative Committee, the group's official weapons and ammunition were stolen. The collection of personnel of the Ministry of Internal Affairs has been announced throughout the republic.

Four residents of the republic are wanted on suspicion of committing a crime. According to preliminary data, the suspects move in a silver Lada Grant car or a white Priore.
