On the 653rd kilometer of the Neva M-11 highway in October 2024, musical road markings appeared for the first time in Russia. When driving at the permitted speed, motorists can hear a fragment of the Kalinka-Malinka composition.

According to the official telegram channel of the state company Avtodor, the experiment on applying musical markings was presented by the chairman of the board of the State Company Avtodor Vyacheslav Petushenko. The musical markings are transverse noise bands with a musical effect. To create it, the specialists of Avtodor-Engineering LLC have developed a unique software that allows you to translate strokes into notes and calculate the necessary parameters for applying marking lines.

First Music Road Markings

The new technology is designed to improve road safety. Like ordinary noise bands, music markings help drivers stay awake at the wheel and concentrate on the road, especially when approaching hazardous areas. In addition, it stimulates compliance with the speed limit, since you can listen to the melody only when moving at the permitted speed.

The introduction of innovative markings is part of a comprehensive strategy to reduce road deaths. The President of Russia has set the task of reducing this figure by 1.5 times by 2030 and by 2 times by 2036 compared to 2023.

Vyacheslav Petushenko noted that the State Company "Avtodor" is constantly looking for effective solutions to improve road safety. He stressed that a number of measures have already been implemented on highways, including the absence of intersections in one level, the separation of traffic flows, the provision of lighting, the introduction of an automated traffic management system and the work of the emergency commissars service.[1]

Magnit and KamAZ launched transportation by unmanned trucks along the Neva M-11 highway

On August 14, 2023, the federal retail chain Magnit announced the launch of cargo transportation by unmanned vehicles along the Neva M-11 highway. At the first stage, in an autopilot mode, two flights will be operated per day - from Moscow to St. Petersburg and in the opposite direction. Magnit semi-trailers with a volume of up to 22 tons, involved in this project, provide the necessary temperature regime and allow you to transport a wide range of food products without any restrictions, as well as non-food products. Opening unmanned vehicles on the M-11 using a digital highway twin

On June 14, 2023, Concern Telematics announced that a high-precision digital twin of the section of the Neva M-11 highway was launched in the Leningrad Region during the start of the movement of unmanned trucks. This is the first digital high-precision model of the expressway in Russia, containing not only a three-dimensional digital map of the road, but also dynamic data on the road situation in real time. Such a digital twin will ensure the safe movement of unmanned and connected vehicles by timely informing about changes in the path of movement tens of kilometers forward. Read more here.

2021: Creating a corridor for unmanned trucks on the highway

A corridor for unmanned trucks will appear on the paid highway of the Neva M11. This was announced in early June 2021 by Deputy Minister of Transport Kirill Bogdanov.

In addition to the Ministry of Transport, this pilot project will be attended by the Digital Transport and Logistics Association (CTL), KamAZ enterprises, National Telematics Systems (NTS), SberAvtoTech, Business Lines, Globaltruck, First Expeditionary Company (PEK), as well as retailer X5 Group.

A corridor for unmanned trucks will appear on the paid highway "Moscow-Petersburg"

Drones should transport goods, and not test technologies, stressed Kirill Bogdanov. According to him, high-tech road infrastructure will ensure seamless passage of borders and non-stop movement of goods. The infrastructure should ensure the passage of both Russian and foreign self-driving machines. Only in this case can a logistics corridor be laid for autonomous transportation between Europe and Asia.

It is noted that the drones themselves will not enter the cities, at least at the first stage. For them, special hubs are organized at the entrances to Moscow and St. Petersburg on the M-11. In the area of ​ ​ Tver, a northern bypass should be built in order to exclude the departure of unmanned trucks to the reconstructed section of the M-10 highway.

The Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation estimated the additional costs of equipping roads so that unmanned vehicles could use them at 4-6 million rubles per kilometer: this is less than 0.5% higher than the standard cost of building a kilometer of the federal highway. The length of the M11 highway is 669 km, about 4 billion rubles may be needed to adapt it to the movement of self-driving trucks.

It is assumed that unmanned trucks will run between Moscow and St. Petersburg along the M11 highway in 2024.[2]
