2024: The number of checkpoints in Russia for the year decreased by 8% to 17 thousand units
On July 5, 2024, it became known about a significant reduction in the number of checkpoints in the largest cities of Russia. According to the 2GIS cartographic service, for the period from June 2023 to June 2024, the number of automated terminals for issuing orders in million-plus cities decreased by 8%, amounting to just over 17 thousand units.
According to Kommersant, against the background of a decrease in the number of checkpoints, there is a significant increase in the number of points of issue of orders (PVZ). Over the same period, their number increased by 20%, reaching 38 thousand points in cities with a population of over a million people.
The largest participants in the e-commerce market confirm the trend towards the development of the PVZ network. Representatives of Yandex Market said that the company is betting on the opening of new points for issuing orders, while the number of checkpoints remains unchanged. According to sources close to the company, Wildberries is implementing a similar strategy .
Mikhail Burmistrov, CEO of Infoline Analytics, notes that consumers are increasingly ordering bulky goods that cannot be obtained through the checkpoint. In addition, PVZs provide the ability to try on clothes and simplify the procedure for returning goods.
An important factor that influenced the post office market was the departure in April 2023 of a major PickPoint player, whose network consisted of 6 thousand terminals. The company stopped working in Russia due to financial difficulties, leaving behind a debt of about 730 million rubles.
Despite the general downward trend, some market participants note an increase in demand for checkpoints. Domestic manufacturer Engy claims increased sales, especially in the markets of friendly countries. The company emphasizes that many PVZs purchase checkpoints to expand the range of services and provide round-the-clock customer service.[1]

2020: Increase in the number of postamates in Russia by 1.5 times
According to GIS estimates, "by the end of 2020 in the largest Russian cities there were 7616 posts against 4938 a year earlier. Infoline Analytics counted more than 18 thousand units of such equipment installed throughout the Russian Federation.
The largest number of points are located in the three largest cities of the country - Moscow (3019), St. Petersburg (1212) and Novosibirsk (461).
In Novosibirsk, in 2020, the number of checkpoints increased by 88.1% (to 461 terminals). In Omsk, the growth was 9.9% (233). At the same time, in Krasnoyarsk, the number of posts increased by one and a half times - up to 115 terminals. This is the most significant annual increase among large cities of the Russian Federation. In 2020, the number of postamates in Yekaterinburg increased by 75.8%, to 422.
The market leader, according to Infoline Analytics, is Ozon, which has more than 7,500 of its own posts. PickPoint is in second place (about 5300 points).
The general director of Infoline Analytics, Mikhail Burmistrov, in a conversation with Vedomosti, noted that buyers in the context of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic have become more cautious about courier delivery, except when it comes to ordering products or cooking.
The postamate market will continue to grow. Burmistrov predicts an increase in the number of points by 2-3 times in the next 2-3 years, they will stand in every large chain store. However, the points of issue of the order will not lose popularity and will continue to develop in one form or another.
Data Insight, according to Natalia Krupenina, its leading analyst at Logistics, registered 134 percent growth in the Russian post office market from May 2019 to September 2020.[2]
