2023: Global 3D Projector Market Size Up 6% to $8? 98 Billion
In 2023, the volume of the global 3D projector market is estimated at $8.98 billion against $8.48 billion in 2022. Thus, growth was recorded at 6%. In the future, positive dynamics will continue. This is stated in the Market Research Future review, published in mid-October 2024.
Analysts highlight several key factors contributing to sales growth. The proliferation of high-definition and ultra-high-definition content requires the use of modern equipment, which stimulates the adoption of 3D projectors in many sectors, including entertainment, education and business. There is significant demand for high-end home theater solutions based on projection technology. The expansion of the sector is also facilitated by the emergence of virtual reality (VR) applications.
Various technological advances, including the development of brighter and more energy efficient models, further contribute to the spread of 3D projectors. Content creators are producing more 3D content, increasing the need for compatible projection systems.
The rapid growth of the home entertainment market contributes significantly to the expansion of the 3D projector segment. As consumers look for the best viewing experience without leaving their homes, the demand for projection solutions is increasing, the study said. |
Using digital light processing and imaging technology, projectors are divided into three types - DLP, LCD and LCoS. The DLP segment in 2023 is valued at $3.95 billion: such devices are very popular due to the accuracy of color reproduction and the ability to create high-definition images, which makes them an excellent option for both home cinemas and corporate environments. LCD models accounted for $2.8 billion in total sales. Another $2.23 billion was brought by LCoS projectors, which provide high image quality, contrast and color accuracy.
The key players in the industry in question are, Optoma,, ViewSonic,, Sony, LG Dell BenQ Christie Digital Systems,, Barco Vivitek,,,,, and. Geographically, Hitachi Samsung Acer Epson Panasonic NEC Display Solutions the leader is North America driven by technological advances and early adoption of 3D projection systems, while the Asia-Pacific region has seen the fastest growth due to the booming entertainment and gaming industries.
In terms of resolution in the global 3D projector market, Full HD (1920 × 1080 pixels) models are in demand, which are popular both in the home entertainment sector and in the field of business presentations. HD devices (1280 × 720 locations) also show sales growth as budget options continue to attract consumers with limited financial capabilities. However, 4K projectors (3840 × 2160 pixels) increase their share thanks to excellent image detail - especially in areas where high image quality is critical. 8K products (7680 × 4320 points) as of the end of 2023 have a relatively small share.
Market Research Future analysts believe that in the future, the CAGR in the market under consideration will be 5.87%. Thus, by 2032, costs on a global scale, according to the estimates presented, could reach $15 billion. In general, as noted, the 3D projector industry is in a phase of significant growth.[1]
2021: 3D Projectors Market Valued at $3.55 Billion
The global market for projectors capable of displaying 3D images in 2021 amounted to $3.55 billion. This was announced at the end of December 2021 by analysts at ResearchAndMarkets.
They did not specify the dynamics of sales of 3D projectors compared to 2020, but noted that the market is on the rise, and growth will continue in subsequent years.
According to the researchers, the 3D projector market is growing due to several factors, namely:
- the increasing use of such equipment in cinema halls and homes;
- the popularity of 3D projectors in museums, exhibitions and various public events;
- digitalization of educational and other sectors;
- development of technologies in the field of three-dimensional picture projection (primarily related to image quality, network capabilities);
- trends in the transition to laser projectors;
- gaming industry: Gamers are increasingly using 3D projectors in games as they provide a presence effect and a more realistic picture.
As for the barriers that hinder the development of the market, experts include technical shortcomings in the use of metal halide lamps and DLP technology. Another problem is the high cost of equipment and its repair. In addition, LED screens compete with projectors.
The dominant technology in the 3D projector market by 2021 is DLP, the report said. Depending on the light source in projectors (metal halide lamps, LEDs, hybrid solutions, laser), laser devices are the largest sellers.
A laser-phosphor source and an RGB laser are used in such devices. Some advantages of laser projectors include low or no replacement or maintenance costs; higher constant brightness with an average laser source life of 20,000 hours; Precision accuracy and color stability greater energy efficiency. Sony, BenQ, Barco and NEC are among the few companies to offer 3D laser projectors.
In terms of applications of 3D projectors, cinemas are leading, and the Asia-Pacific market is the most popular among geographical regions. Despite the emergence of an increasing number of projectors capable of displaying images with 4K resolution, in 2021, models with Full HD support led in terms of sales.
The largest manufacturers of 3D projectors by 2021 are (the shares of vendors are not indicated):
- Sony;
- Epson;
- Optoma;
- Barco;
- Vivitek Corporation;
- Benq (Qisda Corporation);
- Christie Digital (Ushio);
- Jvckenwood ( JVC );
- NEC Display Solutions;
- Panasonic;
- Viewsonic;
- Hitachi Digital Media Group.
The study explains that 3D projects are able to reproduce volumetric content when an illusion of a third dimension (depth) is created on a regular flat screen. Such a video is recorded in a special format, in which the visible image is divided into two parts - for the left and right eyes - and viewed through special glasses, which most often need to be bought separately. 3D content provides the effect of presence and a feeling of immersion in what is happening. At the same time, such an image puts forward increased requirements for the quality of the screen (glasses often darken the visible image), and with some visual disorders, normal viewing of a volumetric picture is impossible, analysts warn.
According to forecasts of ResearchAndMarkets, in the period from 2021 to 2027, the volume of the global market for projectors with support for 3D content will grow by about 6.85% per year and will reach $5.27 billion by the end of this period of time.[2]
