2019: $1 million which earned from a virus racketeer are sentenced to 6 years of prison

In the middle of April, 2019 the 24-year-old citizen of Great Britain Zain Qaiser was sentenced to six years of imprisonment for spread of the Reveton virus racketeer.

According to National agency on fight against crime of Great Britain, Kayser bought up places for advertizing on the websites for adults, inserted into advertizing harmful the code and redirected the victims on the dangerous websites where Angler – software of search of vulnerabilities in a security system of browsers of visitors was used.

This software infected computers with malware, to be exact the Reveton virus racketeer which blocked access for users to the PC and threw with the messages which allegedly arrived from different law enforcement agencies, such as FBI. Then victims were offered to purchase vouchers of GreenDot MoneyPak and to enter the code from the voucher for the Reveton panel to unblock the computer.

Zayn Kayser is sentenced to six years of imprisonment for spread of a virus racketeer

It is considered that Kayser earned not less than $915,000 from racketing using the Reventon virus. Income gained according to this scheme did not get directly into Kayser's account, and passed through network of different banks, including Liberty Reserve. Capture and closing of the Liberty Reserve servers in May, 2013 became the main stage in disclosure of this crime as law enforcement agencies got access to the history of all accounts and transactions of bank in digital currency.

The British law enforcement agencies for the first time arrested Kayser in July, 2014, but they had to release him because of failure of evidence. However thanks to careful work with accounts of Liberty Reserve police finally collected necessary proofs both against Kayser, and against some of his accomplices. In February, 2017 charge was brought to Kayser, and in December, 2018 he was taken into custody.[1]
