July 21, 2022, ABB- SwedishSwiss a manufacturer of solutions in the field of electrical equipment, robotics traffic mechanisms, industrial automation and power grids, announced its withdrawal from the Russian market. The decision is connected with the ongoing conflict on (To Ukraine there is a Russian military special operation) and the subsequent international sanctions, follows from the message of[1]
ABB estimated the financial consequences of leaving for the second quarter of 2022 at $57 million, of which $23 million will affect cash flow in the third quarter.
Shortly after the start of the special operation of the Russian Armed Forces in Ukraine, ABB stopped accepting new orders in Russia. At the same time, she continued to fulfill a small amount of obligations under existing contracts with customers, while complying with the imposed sanctions, they say in ABB. At the end of April 2022, the group announced that in the summer they could decide on a complete withdrawal from Russia.
In several ABB partner companies, in particular, in the robotics business, in June, TAdviser was told that at that time its office in Russia continued to work, but she really did not accept and did not sell new orders for placement in the country, including products that are already in the local warehouse. One of the companies said that ABB fulfills its obligations under contracts concluded "before a certain date": "equipment is brought on them." Read more here.
In Russia, ABB enterprises employ about 750 people, since March most of them have been on vacation. The company assures that they will do everything possible to support employees. How exactly is not specified.
The ABB report also says that it has two production sites in the country located in the Moscow region and Lipetsk. Among the equipment produced on them are complete switchgears and circuit breakers.
It also says that in Russia ABB has "several service centers." The company's website states that its network of engineering, service and training centers in Russia "stretched from Kaliningrad to Sakhalin."
According to the database of legal entities Kontur.Focus, "the parent company ABB in Russia - ABB LLC - in 2021 received revenue of 23.3 billion rubles with an increase of 2% compared to the previous year and a net profit of 1.1 billion rubles. Another 1 billion rubles of revenue was brought to her by the subsidiary Lipetsk LLC ABB Electrical Equipment.
Before ABB stopped accepting new orders, Russia accounted for approximately 1-2% of the ABB group's annual revenue, the company said in a statement.
In Russia, 4 areas of ABB business were presented: electrical equipment, electric drive, process automation, robotics and discrete automation. The company has strong positions in the power, food, chemical, petrochemical industries, telecom. Its solutions are also in demand in the fields of mechanical engineering and metallurgy[2].

2017
As of 2017, the company in Russia has 7 production and 12 service sites (Moscow, Moscow, Khotkovo, St. Petersburg, Cheboksary, Yekaterinburg) and more than 28 regional offices - in Irkutsk, Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg, Samara, Kazan, Rostov-on-Don, Voronezh, Nizhny Novgorod, St. Petersburg, Ufa and other cities.
AVV plant in Khotkovo expands the line of produced high-voltage inputs
In November 2017, the next stage of the program to expand the line of produced inputs was completed at the AVV plant in Khotkovo. The first assembly took place and the acceptance tests of the high-voltage BRIT-S-90-220-1050/200 input (KH 2.9.001-AS) were passed. This input has polymer external insulation and is designed for operation in 220 kV power transformers. The new products will significantly expand the portfolio of the AVV plant in Khotkovo, since earlier a version of the 220 kV transformer input was available for customers only for porcelain external insulation.
Input is designed using the new AirRIP technology. The advantage of AirRIP design is the absence of a spring block in the input head, as well as simplification and reduction in the time of the assembly process, since in this case welding or soldering of the head module is not needed. AirRIP design implements a modular principle. The outer insulation cover is composite and, in addition to the composite insulator itself, contains a lower flange (with a test terminal connection point) and an upper one, which is part of the head module.
The main advantage of AirRIP design is a significant increase in localization.
This type of input is already in demand by customers both in Russia and abroad. In the very near future, the first batch of new inputs will be shipped to India, expanding the geography of deliveries of the Department "Transformers and Components" to the east and opening up new opportunities and prospects for domestic production.
2016
Innovation training center of ABB in Technopolice "Moscow"
In May 2016, ABB announced the opening of an innovative training center in Moscow. The center focuses on the company's core products and technologies. It is planned that more than 4 thousand specialists of the electrical market will be trained here per year.
In general, the innovation center includes an application center for robotics and 10 classrooms: a class of low-voltage complete devices (LVA); class of electrical installation products (EUI); class of start-up control equipment (PRA); class of power circuit breakers; assembly class of complete devices; building automation class; automation and drive equipment class; class of electrical machines; class of products for power supply; class of industrial automated process control systems (APCS). The classes are equipped with valid installation models, demonstration samples of equipment and technical reference literature.
In the application center of industrial robotics, engaged in technological solutions for robotic systems of electric arc and spot welding, high-precision processing of materials (laser, plasma, water cutting, coating) and machine tool maintenance, practical training is carried out to work with industrial robots ABB. Its main task is to design systems according to customer requirements, test developed solutions, carry out pre-configuration of equipment and technological process before final installation at the enterprise.
TheABB robotics center presents a sample of the two-armed industrial assistant robot YuMi, which was first announced at the Hannover exhibition last year. The ABB YuMi robot is able to work together with people without threatening their safety. At the same time, he does not replace people, but works with them, the ABB emphasized. He does not have the intelligence that any human possesses, but he is capable of doing monotonous work with the precision, speed and mindfulness that is not available to humans. The double arm is made of elastic material, which, in combination with innovative force control technologies, ensures the safety of a person working in conjunction with a robot, the company said.
On the territory adjacent to the training center, a "green" ABB parking for electric vehicles is organized. Terra 53 fast charging station charges electric vehicles of all types up to 80% in 10-30 minutes.
