2025: Ex-head of the Kursk region Alexei Smirnov detained on charges of embezzlement of funds allocated to protect the border
In April 2025, the former governor of the Kursk region, Alexei Smirnov, and his deputy, Alexei Dedov, were detained in a fraud case. The politician, who headed the region from May to December 2024, is charged with participating in the embezzlement of funds allocated for the construction of fortifications in the border areas. He has been charged.
