History

2025: Freedom Holding bought Arbuz in full

The financial and technological ecosystem of Freedom Holding Corp. under the management of Timur Turlov completed a deal to fully consolidate the online supermarket Arbuz.kz. The holding brought the share of ownership in the company to 100%. This was reported in a report published on October 14, 2025 on the website of the US Securities Commission.

This was a continuation of Timur Turlov's course on integrating retail, finance and technologies into a single digital ecosystem. At the beginning of 2024, Freedom Holding Corp. owned 94.73% of Arbuz.kz shares, the remaining 5.27% were held by minority investors. During fiscal 2025, the holding bought out this package.

Freedom Holding's entry into the capital of an online supermarket began in 2023, when the company acquired a controlling stake in private investors for $16.5 million. Founder of Freedom Holding Corp. Timur Turlov emphasized that the synergy of the financial and trading segments will bring Kazakhstan's e-commerce to a new level.

According to Turlov, it is the online trading sector that can become the driver of the digital economy. It combines consumer demand, technology, finance and logistics in one business model. Turlov is convinced that the future lies with platforms that allow the client to simultaneously invest, make purchases, manage funds and receive digital services.

The company Arbuz.kz appeared in 2011 and became one of the first to offer residents of large cities of Kazakhstan the delivery of food and consumer goods. The emphasis on local farm products, logistics speed and high-quality service allowed the project to gain a foothold in the niche of online supermarkets.

By 2020, the brand has become one of the most recognizable in the country. His model has become an example of a sustainable, customer-centric e-commerce business. The company built a logistics network and a service system that provided fast delivery in large cities of Kazakhstan.[1]

2023: Freedom Holding bought Arbuz Group

On June 21, 2023, Freedom Holding announced the purchase of 81.92% of Arbuz Group from a group of private investors. The company did not disclose the value of the transaction.

Freedom Holding Says It's Buying 81.92% of Arbuz Group

According to Turlov, the trends in the development of the sector in the world and Kazakhstan in particular indicate that e-grocery may well claim to be a driver of the development of online sales in general. The integration of Freedom Bank and Arbuz will provide the potential to continuously improve the service, develop profitable bonus programs that meet the needs of Freedom customers. In turn, this will allow the holding to expand the audience for the consumption of services of both companies and the entire Kazakhstan ecosystem Freedom and strengthen the position of the financial group, the head of Freedom Holding believes.[2]
