2022: Sony bought Bungie for $3.6 billion
On January 31, 2022, Sony announced the purchase of Bungie, known for creating Destiny and Halo games. The value of the transaction is $3.6 billion. Bungie will continue to independently publish and creatively develop its games, said publisher CEO Pete Parsons.
At Sony, we found a partner who unreservedly supports us in everything we are and who wants to realize our vision of creating entertainment that spans all generations, while preserving the creative independence that beats in the heart of Bungie, says Parsons. - Like us, Sony believes that gaming worlds are just the beginning of what our intellectual property can become. Together, we share the dream of creating and developing iconic franchises that bring together friends around the world, families from different generations and fans on different platforms and in entertainment environments. |
Bungie will remain a multi-platform independent studio and publisher, she will also work alongside developers of PlayStation Studios, said Jim Ryan, president and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, in a post on the PlayStation blog.
Bungie's world-class experience in multi-platform development and gaming services will help us realize our vision of expanding PlayStation to hundreds of millions of gamers, he said. |
Hermen Hulst, head of PlayStation Studios, confirmed this opinion in a separate blog post.
Bungie's technical experience combined with their experience in building high-engagement communities make them a natural choice for collaborating with PlayStation Studios, he said. |
Bungie categorically declares to the audience that her future games will not be exclusives for PlayStation.
No. We want the worlds we create to spread wherever people play games. We will continue to publish independently, creatively independent and will continue to manage a single single Bungie community, "writes Bungie in the frequently asked questions about the transaction.[1] |
