Healthcare development: Artificial intelligence, its medical university and ₽1 billion for clinics

Lipetsk region modernizes the system, health care introducing innovative technologies, creating its own medical school and updating the infrastructure. The key directions of the development of medicine in the region became known in October 2024 after a meeting between the Minister of Health Mikhail Murashko and the Governor of the region. According to Vedomosti, one of the main projects will be the creation of a medical university in the Lipetsk region. According to Governor Artamonov, in the first year it is planned to recruit 100 students to the Faculty of Medicine and 50 to pediatrics. Priority will be given to the training of specialists most in demand in the region: pediatricians, therapists, neurologists, ophthalmologists and others.

Artificial intelligence technologies are being introduced in the healthcare system of the Lipetsk region

An important area of ​ ​ healthcare development in the region was the introduction of artificial intelligence in diagnostics. An AI service for analyzing fluorographic research is already operating in 20 medical institutions in the region, capable of analyzing a large amount of data with 15 accuracy in 95% minutes. An AI system for analyzing mammographic images is also being tested.

Eduard Kochurov, head of the X-ray office of the radiation diagnostics department of the regional oncology dispensary, noted that AI copes with its work 100%, while people's work often depends on the human factor.

To attract qualified personnel in the region, the program "Governor's one and a half million" is operating. Thanks to her, it was possible to attract Doctor of Medical Sciences Sergei Stupakov, who previously worked at the A. N. Bakulev National Center for Cardiovascular Surgery. He has already performed the first operation to install an electrocardiostimulator in the Lipetsk Regional Clinical Hospital.

Work on the modernization of medical infrastructure is underway both in Lipetsk and in regional hospitals. In addition, the construction of a new multi-clinic in the densely populated area of ​ ​ the regional center is being completed, which will serve both adults and children.[1]
