2025: Network Launch

The Kievskaya Ploshchad development group of God Nisanov and Zarakh Iliev in January 2025 announced the launch of a new chain of near-home stores under the Food City Express brand, planning to open up to 600 retail outlets by 2026 according to a franchise model.

According to Vedomosti, the first two stores of the chain have already opened in Moscow residential complexes at the end of 2024. The new network is developing on the basis of the food complex "Food City" on the Kaluga highway with an area of ​ ​ 120 hectares.

A company spokesman said that entering the format of convenience stores is a logical development of the concept of the Food City agricultural cluster, which seeks to become closer to customers.

In stores, it is planned to sell fresh products from Food City, goods for restaurants through order points and develop hyperlocal delivery.

Irina Bolotova, an expert at the Pro.Stora service, notes that the "at home" format is the most promising, and fresh food from the market will be the advantage of Food City Express, which is difficult for other players to provide.

Mikhail Burmistrov, CEO of Infoline Analytics, emphasizes that Food City is a well-known brand, especially in the category of fruits and vegetables, although the new network will have to develop in conditions of strong competition.

A spokesman for X5 Group estimates the share of convenience stores in total retail turnover at more than 30%, predicting growth to 34% by 2028. This segment is the largest in grocery retail and will retain its leadership.

DNA Realty CEO Anton Belykh points to the development benefits in large residential complexes, where the population lives with above-average incomes, which positively affects the revenue of trading operators.

According to the same scheme, stores Near"" from X5 Group and "Magnit nearby" are opening in residential complexes. In 2025, X5 Group plans to double the number of stores opened by franchise partners.^[1]
