The Continental Hockey League is an international league created for the development of hockey in Russia and other countries of Europe and Asia. The decision to create the League was made in February 2008.

10 largest hockey clubs in Russia by annual revenue
At the end of 2024, the St. Petersburg hockey club SKA became the leader in terms of revenue in the Continental Hockey League with a result of 10.07 billion rubles. This is 44.8% more than in the previous year, when the figure was 6.96 billion rubles. Such data are given in the review of RB Business, which TAdviser got acquainted with in early October 2025.
In second place in the ranking is the Kazan hockey club "Ak Bars," which received 6.26 billion rubles against 6.36 billion rubles in 2023 (a decrease of 1.5%). The bulk of the income structure was advertising agreements - 5.67 billion rubles, or 90%. Closes the top three Omsk "Avangard" with 4.44 billion rubles, which is 6.8% more compared to 2023, when revenue was at the level of 4.16 billion rubles. In addition, the top ten includes:
- Lokomotiv - 3.05 billion rubles;
- Avtomobilist - 2.31 billion rubles;
- Dynamo Moscow - 1.8 billion rubles;
- Neftekhimik - 1.35 billion rubles;
- Severstal - RUB 1.33 billion;
- Spartak - 1.12 billion rubles;
- Vityaz - 859.33 million rubles.
The most profitable in the Continental Hockey League in 2024 was Ak Bars, which earned 1.46 billion rubles. A year earlier, this club showed losses in the amount of 361.77 million rubles. Lokomotiv is in second place in terms of profit with 588.7 million rubles, followed by Dynamo Moscow with 477.13 million rubles.
At the same time, SKA became the most unprofitable, which in 2024 lost 63.3 million rubles. However, a year earlier, the losses of this club were significantly more - 903.39 million rubles. In addition to SKA, losses were also demonstrated by Siberia, Sochi, Tractor and Lada. If we summarize the financial results of all KHL clubs, then their total profit amounted to 2.96 billion rubles. For comparison, in 2023 it was equal to 62.57 million rubles.[1]
Net profit growth by 1.5 times to ₽1,86 billion
The net profit of the Continental Hockey League (KHL) in 2024 increased 1.5 times and reached ₽1,86 billion, which is ₽578,8 million more than the result of 2023. According to the report published on March 28, 2025, the league's total revenue and other revenues for the reporting period amounted to ₽4,38 billion, adding ₽413,3 million for the year.
According to Forbes, citing the league's tax statements, advertising revenues showed significant growth, which grew to ₽2,93 billion (an increase of ₽527,6 million). Revenues from broadcast rights reached ₽1,04 billion, which is ₽169,2 million more than the previous period. Targeted deductions from bookmakers made a significant contribution to the league's financial results - ₽1,01 billion, exceeding the 2023 figure by ₽354,8 million.
The expenditure part of the KHL budget also showed growth. The league spent ₽620,2 million on labor, which is ₽149,4 million more than a year earlier. The average annual number of employees was 157, and the average cost per employee reached approximately ₽3,95 million per year or ₽329 thousand per month.
The league's cost of sales and other expenses amounted to ₽1,99 billion, commercial expenses - ₽338,4 million, and managerial expenses - ₽664 million. KHL receivables (the amount that the league should receive) increased by ₽690,5 million and amounted to ₽1,81 billion. At the same time, accounts payable increased (the amount that the KHL owes to others), reaching ₽1,98 billion (an increase of ₽532,5 million).
The positive financial results of 2024 coincided with the record attendance of the KHL regular season of the 2024/25 season, which amounted to 5,396,844 spectators. This exceeded the previous record of 5,395,035 spectators, set in the 2014/15 season.
The 2024/25 season of the Continental Hockey League started on September 3, 2024. This season, 23 clubs from four countries played in the league: 20 teams from Russia and one club from (Belarus Minsk Dynamo""), (China Kunlun Red Star) and (Kazakhstan Barys). Each team played 68 matches, and the total number of playing days reached a record mark of 187.[2]

2018: 10th KHL Championship
The 10th KHL Championship was held from August 21, 2017 to April 2018, when the best team in the final playoff series was awarded the main KHL trophy - the Gagarin Cup. For 16 places in the playoffs during the regular season, 27 teams from 7 countries and 25 cities fought.
