The Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Karelia is the executive authority of the Republic of Karelia, carrying out state policy and carrying out functions in the field of culture, art, cultural heritage, archival, museum and library businesses, education in the field of culture and art in the Republic of Karelia.

History

2010: Renaming to the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Karelia

In September 2010, the Ministry of Culture and Public Relations of the Republic of Karelia was renamed the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Karelia, transferring part of the powers related to working with public associations.

2006: Cultural Heritage Sites

In 2006, the Ministry created a department of state control over the preservation, use and popularization of cultural heritage sites of regional significance. And in 2008, the Department of Cultural Heritage, consisting of two departments, appeared in the new structure of the Ministry: the Department of Control in the Field of Cultural Heritage Protection and Archival Businesses and the Department for Ensuring the Preservation of Cultural Heritage. On the territory of the Republic of Karelia, 4619 objects of cultural heritage (historical and cultural monuments) were put on state protection and registration.

2004: Renamed the Ministry of Culture and Public Relations of the Republic of Karelia

In 2004, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Karelia was renamed the Ministry of Culture and Public Relations of the Republic of Karelia.

1953: Creation

The Ministry of Culture was established on May 20, 1953 in accordance with the decree of the Council of Ministers of the Karelian-Finnish Soviet Socialist Republic instead of the Office for Arts under the Council of Ministers of the KFSSR. From August 20, 1956 it was renamed the Ministry of Culture of the Karelian Autonomous SSR, from November 13, 1991 - the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Karelia.
