2023: Ban on employees using iPhone and Telegram

The Ministry of Digital Development and Communications of the Saratov Region has banned its employees from using the Telegram messenger and Apple devices for official purposes. This became known in mid-August 2023.

He recalled that a similar order was previously issued by the federal Ministry of Digital Development. The reason is that the devices of the American company send "traffic that is not taken into account by anyone," Starkov said. This makes service information vulnerable to hacking. In addition, the ban also affected the Telegram messenger.

Deputy Alexander Anidalov (Communist Party of the Russian Federation) clarified whether there is a similar ban in other Saratov departments. Starkov replied that he could only recommend that his colleagues "join."

Earlier in the Saratov region, the chairman of the regional Duma, Mikhail Isaev (United Russia), called on officials and deputies to abandon "smartphones from enemy states." There are no official bans on the use of American technology, which apply to all officials of the Saratov region, by mid-August 2023.
