History

2024: ₽20 billion allocated for the development of medicine in Karelia in 2025

The Russian government has significantly increased funding for health care in the Republic of Karelia for 2025. This was announced on October 2, 2024 by the head of the regional Ministry of Health Mikhail Okhlopkov, noting that the subvention from the federal budget for the first time will exceed ₽20 billion.

According to Karelinform, the increase in funding is associated with the introduction of a new coefficient of availability of medical care, taking into account the population density of the region. For Karelia, with its vast territory and low population density, this coefficient amounted to 1.029, which made it possible to significantly increase the amount of funds received.

Mikhail Okhlopkov stressed that in 2025 the republic will receive ₽2,8 billion more than in 2024. This became possible thanks to a change in the methodology for calculating the federal subvention at the compulsory medical insurance, for which the regional authorities and deputies actively fought.

The head of Karelia Artur Parfenchikov noted the importance of this decision for the republic and each of its residents. According to him, additional funds open up new opportunities for the development of health care in the region.

According to the draft budget of the Territorial Fund for Compulsory Health Insurance of the Republic of Karelia, the total amount of revenues for 2024 is planned in the amount of more than ₽17 billion, and for 2025-2026 - more than ₽38 billion.

Karelia is among the five regions of the North-West that have received an increased coefficient of availability of medical care, and ranks second in increasing subvention for 2024. For 2026, a subvention from the federal compulsory medical insurance fund for the republic is planned in the amount of ₽21 billion.

The Government of Karelia has already approved the draft budget of the Territorial Compulsory Health Insurance Fund for 2024-2026, which will allow starting the implementation of new programs for the development of health care in the region in the near future.[1]
