2023: Mordovia's healthcare expenses for the year exceeded 9 billion rubles. What the money went for
The expenses of the Republic of Mordovia on health care in 2023 exceeded ₽9 billion. This became known in August 2024. These funds were aimed at large-scale improvements in the health care system, including the purchase of medical equipment, the renewal of the ambulance fleet, as well as the construction and repair of medical institutions.
According to the press service of the Head of the Republic of Mordovia, in recent years, 429 units of modern equipment have been purchased from medical institutions in the region, as well as 59 ambulances and 36 vehicles for delivering specialists to patients. In addition, over the past five years, 77 feldsher-obstetric points (FAPs) and three medical outpatient clinics have been built in the republic. Also, 10 old FAPs were repaired, which significantly improved the availability and quality of medical care in remote and rural areas.
More than ₽2 billion were allocated to finance preferential drug provision, which made it possible to ensure the issuance of more than 414 thousand prescriptions. The authorities of the republic also paid special attention to the treatment of children with diabetes: over two years, more than ₽94 million were allocated for this purpose, thanks to which 308 children received continuous glucose monitoring systems.
According to the Ministry of Health of Mordovia, the region ranks second in the Volga Federal District in terms of average life expectancy, which in 2023 amounted to 74 years. However, despite the successes made, the region continues to face the problem of declining fertility, which is associated with a decrease in the number of women of fertile age. Nevertheless, a set of measures adopted by the republican authorities has reduced the number of medical abortions by 46% over the past five years.
In 2024, for the first time in Mordovia, a medical examination will be carried out to assess reproductive health, which will cover 148 thousand people.[1]
