Refutation of the company's accusations by WikiLeaks
On December 1, 2011, WikiLeaks, an international social network project aimed at "untraceable publication and analysis of documents made available due to information leakage," published an interactive map. The map shows countries engaged in surveillance of mobile phone owners. WikiLeaks included Oxygen Software in the list of companies supplying programs for spying on citizens for governments of different countries. Oxygen Software announced that it was flattering to be on this list, but she was forced to issue a rebuttal.
According to WikiLeaks, Oxygen Software, like other companies on the list, (quote WikiLeaks) 'sells controls to dictators'. Even countries such as Libya and Egypt are mentioned. Other accusations include the development of viruses (Trojans) that, quoting WikiLeaks, 'unauthorized use of personal computers and mobile phones (including smartphones iPhone, Blackberry and Android)', 'record their every use, movement, and even the types and sounds of the area in which they are located'.
The rebuttal of Oxygen Software was as follows:
In fact, everything is not so easy for both Oxygen Software and other manufacturers of software for computer-technical expertise of mobile devices. Of course, it would be very convenient for law enforcement agencies to be able to launch a 'virus' for 'unauthorized access' to someone to the smartphone iPhone and avoid, requiring great effort, a slow and cumbersome procedure for a full examination of a phone seized from a suspect or criminal. It's really different. Instead of using "virus" or "Trojan," we are forced to conduct a comprehensive and fully documented examination, where each action is described in detail. When analyzing mobile devices, the main and main priority is the invariability of the extracted information. In addition, the information obtained can be used in court, for which evidence must be obtained only with strict procedure and all formalities.
What does Oxygen Software really do? The answer is the production of programs for forensic examination of mobile devices and their supply to law enforcement agencies. The program allows experts to access mobile device data for full analysis. Oxygen Software and its customers consider the Mobile Forensics program a working tool that helps experts solve crimes and obtain evidence for use in court. Moreover, Mobile Criminologist makes it possible to track the connections between phones confiscated from different people, always aiming at preventing crimes and terrorist acts.
