Sheremetyevo (JSC MASH) is one of the largest Russian airports in terms of the number of regular international transportation.
The largest national air carrier, Aeroflot - Russian Airlines, is based at Sheremetyevo. The airport services are used by representatives of the three main aviation alliances in the world: Sky Team, Star Alliance and Oneworld. Sheremetyevo also cooperates with leading CIS and Baltic airlines.
Owners
In February 2020, it became known that the state's share in the Moscow Sheremetyevo airport will be sold in private hands - the Sheremetyevo Holding filed an application for the corresponding deal, holding 66.1 percent of the shares.
The company decided to take advantage of the previously acquired call option - a contract for the purchase of an asset at a pre-agreed price in the future. In this case, the option gives the right to buy out 30.46 percent of the airport owned by the Federal Property Management Agency.
The parent company of Sheremetyevo Holding is TPS Avia Holding, registered in Cyprus, owned by the structures of businessmen Alexander Ponomarenko and Alexander Skorobogatko.
TPS Avia Holding gained control of Sheremetyevo in 2017 as a result of the consolidation of airport assets. Then the individual objects belonging to her on the territory of Sheremetyevo were converted into shares of the air hub. The private company pledged to invest in the airport and build several facilities, including a new passenger terminal.

Airport specificity
- Load heterogeneity. The need for resources and the load on airport systems is constantly changing throughout the day. The needs of equipment and personnel depend not only on the time, but also on the location.

- Cost. Infrastructure and equipment at the airport are expensive. Prices per unit of equipment exceed a million dollars, and a shortage of equipment leads to millions of fines.
- Interaction. Many services and organizations take part in the maintenance of aircraft and passengers. Delay in either inevitably leads to costs and delays.
- Weather and seasonality. The airport operates 365 days a year. Snow, rain and wind affect the technology of operation, the punctuality of aircraft, the need for equipment and personnel.
- Regulation. The activities of the airport are strictly regulated at different levels of legislation of the Russian Federation and international standards in aviation.
Safety
2019: 2,087 weapons identified and seized at Sheremetyevo Airport during the year
On February 6, 2020, Sheremetyevo International Airport announced that as of February, the airport has two high-tech zonal management centers for ensuring transport security in the Southern and Northern terminal complexes. Point operators monitor the entire airport area in real time and automatically receive alarming messages with information about the scene.
In total, the Sheremetyevo security service prevented more than 20 thousand attempts to smuggle dangerous objects and substances into aircraft in 2019. So, at the end of the year, during the inspection of passengers, hand luggage and luggage, as well as cargo and mail at Sheremetyevo airport, 2087 weapons were identified and seized. Including: 5 units of firearms, 88 units of cold, 34 units of weapons of other types, 1830 units of special means, 2123 units of stabbing and cutting objects.
Ensuring the highest standards of transport and aviation safety is an unconditional priority for the airport. Taking into account all the requirements when planning a terminal complex, analyzing the best world and domestic practices, carefully selecting technical systems and equipment, training and constant advanced training of our employees give us the opportunity to comprehensively approach this activity in the context of continuous growth in passenger traffic, - emphasized Viktor Ermakov, Deputy General Director of JSC MASH for Security. |
For the first time, Sheremetyevo Airport used innovative technologies in Terminal S. According to MASH, an automated system for sorting hand luggage and returning trays is used to speed up pre-flight screening of passengers in the Terminal. Trays with passenger belongings are automatically sorted into two parallel lines - "clean" and a manual inspection line. The analysis of hand luggage images transmitted from introscopes is carried out by a computer and inspectors in a separate operating room, which reduces the impact of the human factor on the quality of the inspection procedure. This solution allows you to conduct a high-quality inspection of suspicious hand luggage without stopping the main line, which doubles the throughput of the inspection area, the company noted.
In general, as of February 2020, the airport operates more than 530 units of stationary inspection equipment and more than 200 units of mobile and portable equipment:
- one- and two-projection X-ray television introscopes,
- tomographs,
- multi-zone stationary and manual metal detectors,
- gas analyzers,
- microwave scanners.
In addition to security inspection, Sheremetyevo uses many other security measures:
- search dogs of the dog service are used;
- patrols are carried out in terminals and forecourts;
- in passenger traffic there are profiler inspectors in civilian clothes;
- the airport perimeter is equipped with a Russian high-tech security system:
- video surveillance cameras that allow you to search for persons in passenger traffic.
Sheremetyevo Airport's transport and aviation security system complies with Russian regulations and meets the requirements of international security standards. In 2019, ICAO auditors confirmed the airport's compliance with the organization's aviation security standards.
