SmartPhone Labs (SPL) is a Russian company engaged in software testing and game development. The company was founded in 2002, it is headed by co-founder Artem Kharitonov by August 2021. The studio is located in Veliky Novgorod (Russia), it employs more than 100 employees. SPL develops games for several platforms, including PCs, PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, mobile devices and VR . The SmartPhone Labs team focuses on modern manufacturing and testing methods and has extensive experience with the Unity platform, C++ custom engines, virtual reality and back-end systems. SPL has established partnerships with Sabre, companies collaborate in many successful projects, including the migration of Mudrunner to mobile devices and World War Z on Switch, in addition to several projects to attract talent. The company also collaborates with Electronic Arts, Microsoft, Square Enix, Bandai Namco, Disney, Sony.

History

2021: Embracer Group bought SmartPhone Labs

In mid-August 2021, Embracer Group, through its subsidiary Saber Interactive, entered into an agreement to acquire a 100% stake in Russian mobile game developer SmartPhone Labs (SPL). The financial component of the transaction is not disclosed.

Embracer Group acquired SmartPhone Labs

In its new status, SmartPhone Labs will operate as a subsidiary of Saber Interactive, focusing on software testing and game development. The purchase of a studio from Veliky Novgorod will allow Embracer to strengthen its position in Russia and Eastern Europe.
