InfoTeCS create a plant in Tomsk to increase production by 10 times

Russian Railways acts as a curator for the implementation of the Quantum Communications roadmap, which describes the strategy for the development of applied products and services until 2030. On trunk quantum networks, intermediate nodes with quantum key distribution equipment are installed.

The speed of such networks is growing from year to year, and with it the demand for means of their information protection will grow, according to Russian Railways - as regional networks develop and new subscribers are connected, new players will appear in the industry. Another major customer of InfoTeCS is Gazprom.

Information protection of trunk communication channels is of paramount importance, experts interviewed by the publication say: intrusion into this network can compromise all devices in the system at once, for example, phones. Therefore, high-end protective equipment is needed here.

The market volume of this equipment in Russia is estimated at 15 billion rubles, and more than half of this emerging market is occupied by InfoTeCS, the newspaper writes in its July 14, 2023 issue. An additional incentive for an increase in demand for this equipment is the digitalization programs of the Russian economy, which provide for quantum cryptography in certain industries - these technologies are also present in the development strategies of some government agencies and state-owned companies.[2]

According to Infotex, it was previously established that only the database of site user accounts was compromised, containing the following mandatory fields for the user: login, username and email address. The company assured that the access password is not stored in the database, instead, a hash from the password is stored in the database, from which the password cannot be restored. Database analysis showed that out of 60,911 records of the compromised database, the vast majority are fakes, automatically generated bot records, one-time, technological records, etc. By May 22, 2023, the database was cleared of outdated data, the investigation of the incident continues, Infotex reported. They also added that the notification of the incident was sent to Roskomnadzor in accordance with the requirements.

Infotex explained that the company is fully responsible for the incident and is making every possible effort to successfully complete the investigation and establish the causes of the leak.

The investigation also found that the site's services (web server, site management system, operating systems, virtualization and load balancing systems) were not compromised by the attacker, the company said.

On May 20, 2023, the Telegram channel "Information Leaks" reported a leak of 60 thousand records of the site's user database infotecs.ru. The network got logins, full name, email addresses, phones, passwords, place of work and position, registration date and last activity (from March 24, 2010 to April 24, 2023). The United States saw in the Russian "InfoTeKS" a threat to national security

On January 20, 2022 the American edition Forensic News published results of a research in which it is said that activity of the Russian company InfoTeCS poses threat to national security of the USA. Researchers consider that presence at the company of the license of FSB is the proof of communication with intelligence agencies of the Russian Federation.

Before making such a statement, Forensic News studied corporate documents from various jurisdictions in the United States and abroad for six months, and also communicated with numerous sources familiar with InfoTeKS and consulted with cybersecurity experts.

The United States saw in the Russian "InfoTeKS" a threat to national security

According to Forensic News, the company has valid licenses with a variety of Russian government entities, including the FSB and FSTEC. These licenses allow InfoTeCS to provide encryption and digital security tools to protect Russian state secrets.

InfoTeKS has been operating in the North American market for about 20 years through its subsidiaries, in particular, customers in this region include the insurance company Cigna, Rutgers University, as well as the Hackensack University Medical Center.

Forensic News' concerns with InfoTeKS are raised in particular by the past of its founder Andrei Chapchaev, a senior KGB engineer who spent a decade working in the intelligence community before founding InfoTeCS as his first private venture. In addition, Forensic News reports on InfoTeKS 's connection with Artem Klyushin, a Russian businessman whom the Senate Intelligence Committee called "a Kremlin-linked bot developer who supported Russian influence operations." The publication also describes the alleged vulnerabilities of the Stribog and Grasshopper algorithms, accusing InfoTeKS of using backdoors that cybercriminals can exploit. The authors of the study also indicate that in 1993 Sberbank became a client of InfoTeKS, the company also cooperates with Russian Railways, Rostelecom and the state pension fund of Russia.

The study also mentions that in September 2018, the US Department of Commerce added InfoTeCS to the list of 14 companies subject to export restrictions. InfoTeCS was one of four companies identified by the US authorities as one that "contributed to the activities of attackers from Russia."

Nevertheless, Russian legislation strictly regulates the turnover of information cryptoprotection tools (CIPF). To develop and implement solutions that have encryption tools intended for the Russian market, an FSB license is required, including for companies from abroad. Also, CIPF for the domestic market of the Russian Federation can use only a limited list of domestic encryption algorithms GOST 34.11-2018.[4]

US sanctions

On September 26, 2018, the US Department of Commerce, on the basis of unmotivated suspicions of the American administration, included InfoTeCS OJSC in the list of companies subject to sanctions. The essence of the imposed sanctions is a ban on American companies from supplying dual-use products to InfoTeCS OJSC.

According to the official position of the company's management, from the beginning of its activities to October 2018, InfoTeCS OJSC produces products aimed at combating the criminal, destructive and illegal activities of cybercriminals, and in the future plans to develop and distribute its products, ensuring the information security of each consumer. The company continues to express confidence that the sanctions will not affect the implementation of the concluded and intended contracts, as well as the further activities of the company as a whole.

After the publication of the document by the US Ministry of Trade, unverified information about the impact of the imposed sanctions on cooperation with InfoTeCS OJSC began to spread in the Russian media. The publications appeared the arguments of market experts about the possible consequences of sanctions both for the company itself and for its partners and customers.

A number of conclusions expressed by experts are unfounded and may negatively affect the business reputation of the company. For this reason, OJSC InfoTeCS considers it necessary to provide detailed explanations regarding the provisions of the document of the US Ministry of Trade.

So, according to the decision of the Bureau of Industry and Security of the US Department of Commerce (BIS) together with the End User Review Committee No. RIN 0694-AH63 prohibited transactions with OJSC InfoTeCS concerning only export, re-export or transfer of goods (primarily dual-use) subject to Export Control Regulations (EAR) of the USA, as well as transactions in which OJSC InfoTeCS is the buyer, consignee or end user of these goods. In other words, we are talking only about banning the supply of a number of American goods and technologies to American companies, or any other companies associated with American companies with the relevant terms of contracts, to OJSC InfoTeCS.

The decision of the Bureau does not impose any restrictions on the possibility of purchasing software and equipment manufactured by OJSC InfoTeCS by any third parties, including residents of the Russian Federation, which are subsidiaries or affiliates of foreign companies. The decision of the Bureau does not regulate the relationship between OJSC InfoTeCS and legal entities established and operating in the Russian Federation.

The official explanations of the Bureau of Industry and Security of the US Department of Commerce itself regarding certain points of its decision making the company on the sanctions list, and the possible consequences of their non-compliance, which are intended for US residents, are located in the part of the official website of the Bureau that is not available to users of the Russian segment of the Internet.

InfoTeCS also stressed that, according to Article 152 of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation, a legal entity has the right to protect its business reputation. This document establishes responsibility for disseminating any information about a legal entity that does not correspond to reality.

1989-1993

  • InfoTeCS (Information Technologies and Communication Systems) was founded in 1989, in 1991 the company was registered as an open joint stock company. Since then, neither the form of ownership nor the name of the Company has ever changed.
  • 1992 - the entry into the market of the DOS version of the product "Corporate Superimposed Network "InfoTeCS, "which laid down the basic principles of ViPNet secure networks and became the prototype of the modern ViPNet network solution.
  • 1992-1993 - work on the creation of a dedicated corporate network of Sberbank of the Russian Federation on Rostelecom communication channels for a number of regional banks of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, the implementation of dedicated telephone communication projects for a number of major enterprises in the oil and gas production and processing industries.

Chapchaev Andrey: On September 6, 1991, literally two or three weeks after the State Emergency Committee fell, we decided on a fantastic thing at that time - the creation of a joint-stock company. More than 80 people invested a little money in us, each shareholder acquired shares for an average of 3,000 rubles, which at that time were inflated with rampant speed, sometimes inflation was 30% -40% per week. The money quickly depreciated, and we were able to buy only an Aquarius computer (by the way, the Aquarius company is still one of our large partners), a Yatran typewriter, several chairs, a couple of tables and phones. The company's full-time staff consisted of five employees. The first projects were carried out by "temporary creative teams" or, as they are now called, freelancers.

Despite the fact that the money raised was enough for only one month of salary, we were not scared for the future (or there was no time to be scared), and, apparently, this confidence allowed us to get quite large contracts. First - to create a fragment of the X.25 network for one state organization, then - to encrypt data exchange via a modem network for remote divisions of Sberbank and subsequently - to encrypt and protect data in the Sokol-Banker system of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation, which was a satellite communication system for the needs of the bank. By the way, the latter system was then operated for almost 10 years, until it was replaced by more modern solutions.

Patent activity

2015: Computer Attack Detection Patent on Network Information System

Infotecs, a manufacturer of software and hardware VPN solutions and cryptographic information protection tools, announces the receipt of a patent for a new way to detect computer attacks on a network information system. The technology was developed by the participants of the program for supporting scientific personnel "InfoTeCS Academy" and registered with the Federal Service for Intellectual Property (Rospatent).

Recently, attacks of the type DDoS ("denial of service") have become quite widespread on the Internet. According to data, since Qrator Labs September 2014, not only the total power of DDoS attacks has increased, but also the frequency of attacks (the number of attacks more powerful than 10 Gbps increased 3 times, from 47 to 155, i.e. such attacks are observed on average every other day, attacks more powerful than 100 Gbps occur on average weekly, their number increased 11 times, from 7 per year to 76 (data as of November 1, 2014). Powerful attacks were subjected to the sites MEDIA, of large companies (financial sector payment systems, banks Forex and analogues) and online stores. At the same time, the technologies and solutions for detecting these types of attacks that exist today are not universal and are focused only on repelling a certain type of DDoS attack.

The patented method of intrusion detection, unlike known methods, allows you to adjust the sensitivity of the attack detection algorithm, adapting it to a specific computer network. The method of detecting attacks registered by InfoTeCS can recognize many types of attacks (HTTP-flood, SYN-flood, UDP-flood, ICMP-flood, TCP-flood), as well as combinations thereof, which will reduce the time for detecting an attack and, thus, organize a set of measures to minimize possible damage in a timely manner.

The registered technology is planned for use in ViPNet IDS hardware and software complexes, which is designed to detect intrusions into information systems based on dynamic analysis of network traffic of the TCP/IP protocol stack. When a computer attack is detected, ViPNet IDS logs the fact of its detection, identifies the event and instantly, in a mode close to real time, notifies the network administrator about it, which allows you to respond to the incident in a timely manner using network shielding tools.

The authors of the patented invention are participants in the InfoTeCS Academy program, which is aimed at developing scientific developments and research projects in the field of cryptography and information security. This is the second patent received based on the results of the InfoTeCS Academy program.

Patent No. 2538292 for the invention InfoTeCS describes a method for detecting computer attacks on a network computer system, which makes it possible to detect single computer attacks of different types, combined simultaneous attacks of different types and determine the types of attacks.

2014

Patent for Parallel Processing of Ordered Data Streams

On March 13, 2014, InfoTeCS announced the receipt of a patent for the technology of parallel processing of ordered data flows from the Federal Intellectual Property Service (Rospatent).

The invention was developed by InfoTeCS experts and is used as part of ViPNet hardware and software systems for cryptographic data protection.

Patented technology is used in multiprocessing network traffic to achieve higher CIPF performance used in building - VPN networks. When implementing this method, the network equipment receives a number of data packets in a certain sequence and then performs parallel processing of each packet on a separate processor, while achieving a higher throughput.

The algorithm described in the patent No. 2507569 for the invention InfoTeCS allows multiprocessing traffic without mutual blocking of processors when generating an output sequence of data packets. When implementing this approach, the first processor does not wait for the second processor to complete the action, thereby being temporarily blocked.

Patent for a way to detect malware in the OS kernel

On April 3, 2014, InfoTeCS announced that it had received a patent for a new way to detect malicious software in the kernel of the operating system. The technology was developed by the participants of the program for supporting scientific personnel "InfoTeCS Academy" and registered with the Federal Service for Intellectual Property (Rospatent).

The introduction of malicious software into the kernel of the operating system is one of the most unfavorable security threats, since its installation on a workstation cannot always be identified.

The patented InfoTeCS detection method malware includes a dynamic, more detailed check of the execution of kernel code OS to detect illegal interceptions, as well as possible code changes in the kernel and downloadable modules (drivers). The registered technology provides detection of both known and previously unregistered malware ON in the kernel and drivers of the operating system. The authors of the patented invention are participants in the InfoTeCS Academy program, which is aimed at developing scientific developments and research projects in the field of cryptography and information security. Participation in the program enables a young scientist to receive support for an interesting project, promising, relevant developments, advance in his research, deepen experience and knowledge, and stimulate the emergence of advanced ideas and approaches.

Patent No. 2510075 for the invention InfoTeCS describes a method for detecting malicious software in the kernel of the operating system and allows you to check the data structure of the loaded operating system, checking whether the addresses of commands executed during a system call belong to the normal range of addresses of the kernel and modules of the kernel of the operating system in RAM.
