Add Content Filtering

Kaspersky Security Update for: mail servers Added advanced event filtering content and visualization. Kaspersky announced this on April 22, 2024.

According to a study by Kaspersky Lab in 2023, 77% of companies in the world have encountered at least one cyber incident in two years. At the same time, 21% of incidents were related to phishing attacks on employees, including through email. The real number of email attacks can be much higher - so it is important to reliably protect this communication channel. Kaspersky Lab presents an updated Kaspersky Security solution for mail servers designed for comprehensive protection against email attacks. The updated version provides more advanced options for filtering content, visualizing events for SOC (information security monitoring centers), as well as analyzing quarantined letters.

Advanced content filtering. Administrators can now create comprehensive filtering rules to find keywords in the email subject, body of the message, sender's address, and attachment name. You can also configure filtering by hidden headings in the body of the letter.

In addition, administrators can create lists of allowed and prohibited keywords, for example, to adapt filtering rules for different groups of users. If changes are made to these lists, they will be centrally applied to all associated filtering rules.

Kaspersky Security for Mail Servers now also helps prevent data breaches by monitoring outgoing messages and checking them for sensitive data. Administrators will be able to create regular expressions that match a specific type of data (for example, a credit card number) in order to detect and block their transfer in time, reducing the risk of data leakage . These restrictions primarily apply to sending emails to external mailboxes, but you can also set a limit on sending messages containing a certain type of data between specific departments in the company.

Advanced event visualization capabilities. Comprehensive event blocking information is now available to SOC teams, including details of attachments, their scan results, and a verdict on blocked link transitions. This will allow SOC analysts to more accurately study events and further strengthen their incident response strategy.

Quarantine management. Administrators can now view quarantined emails in the original format directly from the console. This simplifies the quarantine management process and makes it more transparent, as well as helping to strengthen control over potential threats.

In addition, Kaspersky Security for Mail Servers now supports integration with the Red Software Red Virtualization Server and Workstation Virtualization Management System, certified by the Ministry of Digital Development of the Russian Federation.

Dangerous vulnerability found in Kaspersky mail anti-virus

On February 1, 2024, FSTEC published a warning in its Threat and Vulnerability Data Bank (DBU)[1] about a dangerous vulnerability in Kaspersky Security email antivirus for Linux Mail Server 8, which was released by Kaspersky Lab on May 14, 2018. According to the third version of CVSS, the vulnerability was rated 8.8 out of 10, and according to the second version - 10 out of 10. The vulnerability allows foreign code to be executed using a specially prepared link.

File:Aquote1.png
The vulnerability of the antivirus software Kaspersky Security for Linux Mail Server 8 exists due to the failure to take measures to neutralize special elements, the department's warning says. - Exploitation of the vulnerability can allow an attacker acting remotely to execute arbitrary code.
File:Aquote2.png

Description of the vulnerability in the FSTEC remote control

As an attack method, the NOS indicates the injection of foreign code if special elements are incorrectly neutralized in the output data used by the downstream component. As written on the website of the email gateway protection manufacturer, the vulnerability gives an external attacker the ability to take certain actions on the machine if the administrator clicks on a specially prepared link. The company thanked researchers Andrian and Bogdan Tyrone for alerting them to the vulnerability, and also praised them for disclosing information responsibly.

Kaspersky Lab has already released fixes for the vulnerability - it has been fixed in Kaspersky Security for Linux Mail Server 10. The main recommendation of the manufacturer is to install a new version of the software. If this is not possible, the company encourages email gateway security administrators to use two separate browsers to manage the application and visit third-party sites.

In addition, FSTEC offers such an additional protection measure as the use of web application layer firewall tools to limit the ability to navigate untrusted links.

2022: Compatibility with the software complex for building cloud solutions "Basis"

2021: Possibility of detailed (layer-by-layer) anti-virus scanning of containers

Kaspersky Lab"" On January 27, 2021, it announced that it had updated its solution for protecting virtual cloudy and environments. It now boosts safety environments. DevOps It now improves the security of DevOps environments, which aim to shorten the system development lifecycle and ensure continuous integration and delivery with high-quality software. Kaspersky virtual Added granular (layered) capabilities to Security for and Cloud. This anti-virus scannings containers allows you to minimize the risk of their compromise and, as a result, successful attacks on. supply chains

Attackers regularly commit such attacks, for example, inject a fragment of malicious code into legitimate programs. This method was used, in particular, in the attack on the ShadowPad supply chain, when the backdoor was built into the popular library. Open source repositories are often also targeted, for example, 17 images with backdoors were found in the Docker Hub, and users downloaded 725 malicious packets almost 100 thousand times from RubyGems.

Protection against supply chain attacks is one of the key needs of software developers, but it is not easy to find an effective tool, since reconciliation of the integrity of a rapidly changing environment is a difficult process from a technical point of view. The operation of the security solution should not prevent the application from being released on the market in time or generally violate the general flexible approach typical of DevOps. Developers can add additional security checks to continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines, including TeamCity projects and Jenkins Pipeline, through command line interfaces and application APIs. This allows you to check containers and container repositories for cyber threats at different stages of building and testing applications.

In addition to integrating with public cloud environments AWS, Microsoft Azure and Yandex.Cloud, Kaspersky Security's virtual and cloud security solution is now also integrated with Google Cloud. All security tools are managed through a single management console from Kaspersky Security Center.

File:Aquote1.png
"Continuous software development is a modern approach to creating software. DevOps allows you to eliminate the usual long coordination procedures, but solving information security problems within this method is not easy. Secure use of containers reduces the risk of malware being injected into the development environment, containerized applications, or the substitution of third-party libraries used by such applications. Our virtual and cloud security solution offers win-win companies a scenario to fill the cybersecurity gap in the development environment. The product includes tools that developers understand and do not prevent them from doing their job, and helps to repel attacks on the part of the infrastructure that was not previously protected, "comments Andrey Pozhogin, senior product manager at Kaspersky Lab.

Kaspersky Endpoint Detection and Response (Kaspersky EDR) Together, both of these products provide an opportunity to further control the situation cyber security in the most vulnerable places - on workstations, including virtual ones, as well as on. servers

File:Aquote1.png
Virtual and cloud infrastructures are increasingly attracting modern business with their flexibility and availability. And if for a company as a whole a virtual environment is an advantage, then for cybersecurity specialists it is often a source of additional "headache." And we understand them: the more complex and large-scale IT infrastructure, the more time, effort and resources it takes to maintain its operability and security. That is why we pay so much attention not only to the protective capabilities of our solution for virtual environments, but also to its usability - in particular, the ease of deployment, scaling and management, compatibility with popular platforms.

Kaspersky Lab has improved protection for business

Kaspersky Lab presented in March a new generation of its solution for protecting end devices of corporate users. The updated Kaspersky Security for Business product automatically recognizes anomalies in the corporate network, blocks mining attempts on work devices, detects malware even if it uses complex masking methods, and offers system administrators convenient tools to automate routine processes.

This version of Kaspersky Security for Business combines advanced technologies based on machine learning algorithms and threat analytics. This allows you to protect companies from attacks by not yet known malware. In particular, the Adaptive Anomaly Control function, which appeared in the new version of the product, analyzes the behavior of users and remembers the scenarios of their work and the typical processes that they perform. As soon as the system records any deviation from the usual activity on devices, it blocks an abnormal action and notifies the system administrator of a suspected threat. The entire process is fully automated and does not require manual configuration of program control policies - this not only saves time, but also avoids false positives.

Special attention in the new generation of Kaspersky Security for Business is paid to improving protection against web threats. For example, the Web Threat Protection component scans encrypted traffic for threats that attempt to use encrypted data channels to sneak into the system. In addition, the Web Control function now contains a special technology that detects and blocks attempts to launch mining programs in the corporate network - the number one threat in 2018 - and access to cryptocurrency exchanges.

In turn, the console for managing the security system - Kaspersky Security Center * - is now presented in the web version, that is, in order to access the control tool, the system administrator just needs to open the browser (no pre-installation ON is required). Remote management not only simplifies the security control process, but also allows administrators to quickly respond to any incidents in the organization's corporate network. At the same time, using the web console does not exclude the possibility of deploying the local version of Kaspersky Security Center.

An important advantage of Kaspersky Security for Business is the automation of many routine processes. This allows system administrators to focus on strategic tasks instead of wasting time and resources on basic operations.

2018: Kaspersky Security release with machine learning technology

The product combines technologies for recognizing cyber threats, including based on machine learning, and has become even more effective and convenient. Among other things, it gives visual control over all protected devices in the corporate network and guarantees the integrity of running processes and systems. And integration with the additionally available EDR (Endpoint Detection and Response) product allows you to instantly detect and block any anomalies in employees' workplaces, neutralizing the most complex APT attacks.

The updated version of Kaspersky Security for Business signals even at the slightest suspicion of malicious activity in real time. This is achieved through the use of dynamic machine learning, as well as behavioral analysis technologies, intrusion prevention systems, protection against exploits and the rollback of malicious actions.

Kaspersky Endpoint Security for Business (2018)

In turn, vulnerability assessment and patching allow you to automate the process of closing gaps in the software. In addition, the solution has advanced protection against ransomware: it monitors suspicious activity on Windows, Linux and Windows Server devices and, if detected, blocks the device from accessing shared network folders, which prevents the spread of ransomware viruses on the corporate network.

In general, the updated Kaspersky Security for Business features improved performance, ease of control and interface. And integration with the EDR system allows you to visualize the array of information that the security system collects on work computers. As a result, cybersecurity experts instantly see any suspicion of network compromise and can immediately take all necessary actions to eliminate risks.

Finally, thanks to the flexible scalability of Kaspersky Security for Business, you can deploy even a very large corporate network (including up to 100 thousand devices) within just one server installation.

File:Aquote1.png
"Business protection needs are changing as cyber threats evolve and become more complex. Simply improving even the most effective protective technologies that have worked well for years is no longer enough today. Manufacturers of information security systems should take into account many other risks and threats, in addition to malicious ON as such, and also take into account that the requirements of companies vary depending on their size, scope and available resources. That is why we create a comprehensive and easily scalable product. The generation of Kaspersky Security for Business is not just level protection, it is a really rethought approach to ensuring truly comprehensive cybersecurity for any organization. "

2017: "Kaspersky Security for Virtual Environments|Agent-Free Protection"

On March 17, 2017, Kaspersky Lab introduced a modified version of Kaspersky Security for Virtual Environments|Protection Without Agent.

Protection against cyber threats in real time is now provided on connected and disconnected virtual machines - the same level of information security is supported throughout the virtual infrastructure. The technology is fully compatible with the VMware NSX virtualization platform and protects every machine and every network without affecting their performance[3]

Screenshot of the software window, (2017)

The Kaspersky Lab product recognizes and prevents network intrusions (IDS/IPS), complex threats and zero-day vulnerabilities on all virtual hosts running VMware NSX. At the same time, the installation process of all components of the security solution is automated, each virtual machine has individual and precisely configured security tools.

Kaspersky Security for virtual environments and the VMware NSX platform exchange security tags, which can change according to the specified rules, for example, when other types of malware are detected on the network. This interaction between the virtual infrastructure and the security solution means that the data center can respond in real time to any information security incident and automatically reconfigure the entire virtual network if necessary. The functionality of checking enabled and disabled virtual machines allows you to ensure the protection of an enterprise software-defined data center, regardless of the technological and business processes that take place in it.

2014: Kaspersky Security for Virtual Environments|Lightweight Agent

Kaspersky Lab released Kaspersky Security for Virtual Environments|Lightweight Agent in May 2014, designed to protect virtual machines in Microsoft Hyper-V, Citrix XenServer and VMware ESXi environments. It complements the line of Kaspersky Security products for virtual environments, providing support for two new virtualization platforms (Microsoft and Citrix), and for users VMware provides a more functional alternative to agent-free security technology.

Creating and maintaining a virtual infrastructure requires appropriate expertise and tools that differ from the tools used to work with the physical network and workstations. In terms of information security, the situation is completely similar, but often enterprises in protecting virtual environments still use antivirus products created for physical devices in the old fashioned way. This approach is called "agent-based," and it generally negatively affects the performance of the virtual infrastructure. In particular, this reduces the level of consolidation of virtual machines (the density of virtual machines on the host server), which eliminates the main advantages of virtualization technology and reduces the economic effect of its implementation. Therefore, the use of an agent approach is justified only in rare cases.

The solution of Kaspersky Lab with the use of light agent technology has significant advantages compared to the use of traditional protective equipment. Such a model implies most resource-intensive operations by a dedicated virtual security device, which also hosts regularly updated antivirus databases. At the same time, a special module (light agent) is installed on each regular virtual machine, which provides maximum protection without compromising the performance of the virtual infrastructure, and Shared Cache technology eliminates the double validation of identical files on different virtual machines.

This approach provides advantages not only over traditional solutions, but also over agent-free protection. The latter helps to significantly reduce resource consumption, but at the same time has a smaller set of protective functions.

A lightweight agent solution is the middle of the road and offers the perfect balance of benefits - it provides the optimal level of resource utilization and adds the ability to apply additional security mechanisms: firewall, application and device control, web policy settings and intrusion detection technology. Separately, it is worth noting such an advantage of a lightweight agent solution as the ability to work in mixed environments that use different types of hypervisors, but while maintaining the ability to control the protection of both virtual and physical machines from a single console.

2013: Kaspersky Security для SharePoint Server

Kaspersky Lab announced in October 2013 the release of an updated version of Kaspersky Security 8.0 for SharePoint Server, which, in addition to a number of functional improvements, implements support for Microsoft SharePoint Server 2013 and optimizes protection against cyber threats.

Enterprise collaboration solutions have simplified the process of solving the daily challenges faced by company employees. However, documents stored on such systems, being infected with malware, ON can cause an epidemic of the entire corporate network. That is why such files require special protection, the company said. To solve this problem, Kaspersky Lab offers Kaspersky Security 8.0 for SharePoint Server, an enterprise solution created specifically for protection that IT infrastructures ensures collaboration in the company.

As part of the update, support for Microsoft SharePoint Server 2013 was integrated into the solution, as well as anti-phishing technologies from Kaspersky Lab were added. Kaspersky Security для Linux Mail Server

Kaspersky The Security for Mail Linux Server solution, designed to protect corporate email traffic from malware spam, showed strong results in the fall of 2012 in the latest VBSpam testing, organized by the authoritative Virus Bulletin magazine among 20 antispam solutions. The new Kaspersky Lab product demonstrated a detection rate of 99.93% and received the VBSpam award. This is the best result among corporate antispam products. The security solution "" Kaspersky Lab for Linux-based mail servers also improved its performance compared to the 99.75% result shown in the previous VBSpam test.

VBSpam testing is conducted on a regular basis and assesses antispam solutions by the level of spam detection and blocking. The last stage of testing was carried out in August and September 2012. More than 130,000 spam messages were processed in 16 days. Testing was carried out on current samples of spam letters that came in real time from two different antispam databases. Particular attention was paid to messages sent around the world, as well as spam in various languages. Another 10,000 emails - legitimate newsletters in different languages that are often mistaken for spam - were used to test products for false positives.

During testing, Kaspersky Security for Linux Mail Server successfully detected 99.93% of spam messages. At the same time, only one false positive was recorded (erroneous detection of legitimate writing as spam), that is, the rate of false positives was only 0.01%. The final result is the first place among corporate antispam products and the second place in the overall ranking with a slight lag behind the hosting solution (represented by the SaaS model).

In December 2012, Kaspersky Lab announced the release of a key update for Kaspersky Security for Linux Mail Server, an enterprise solution that secures Linux and FreeBSD mail servers. The updated product uses innovative technologies to protect corporate users from spam and malware distributed by e-mail, the company told CNews.

In particular, among the improvements, the developers highlight a new technology for recognizing and blocking zero-day threats and exploits, a system for neutralizing targeted attacks, content reputation and format recognition filters, and much more.

A distinctive feature of modern spam mailings is the speed of their implementation: about half of unwanted and malicious emails are distributed in the first 10 minutes of the attack. The new service for forced updating of anti-spam databases in real time downloads the most important parts of the anti-spam signature update, so that Kaspersky Security for Linux Mail Server can quickly respond to the emergence of new spam mailings, Kaspersky Lab explained.

In addition, the new technology of reputational content filtering decomposes the contents of the email into fragments, analyzes and compares them with well-known samples of spam mailings using the cloud resources of Kaspersky Lab. Thus, this approach not only increases the detection rate of new spam messages, but also reduces the rate of false security positives at the same time.

Finally, the increasingly targeted attacks on companies pose a serious threat to business today. To conduct them, attackers often resort to sending letters with malicious attachments, including those containing exploits - malicious objects that use errors in the system or applications to infect a computer. The innovative ZETA Shield (Zero-day, Exploits and Targeted Attacks Shield) technology allows Kaspersky Security for Linux Mail Server to quickly detect and block emails containing exploits, including new and previously unknown, the developers say.

Based on its needs, the company can purchase one of three ways to license the updated Kaspersky Security for Linux Mail Server solution. The first method provides for the presence of anti-spam tools in Kaspersky Security, the second - anti-malware tools, in ON turn, the third method implies the acquisition of comprehensive protection of the mail server from current cyber threats.

"Our updated Linux email server protection solution not only detects and blocks spam mailings, but also thanks to the presence of innovative ZETA Shield technology, it helps to counter targeted attacks on the company by e-mail. Thus, Kaspersky Security for Linux Mail Server provides comprehensive protection of mail traffic, and the flexible licensing system of the client company allows you to choose the necessary level of protection, "said Nikolai Grebennikov, director of research and development at Kaspersky Lab.

2010: Kaspersky Security для Microsoft Exchange Servers

Kaspersky Lab has announced the release of an updated solution for protecting corporate mail traffic Kaspersky Security 8.0 for Microsoft Exchange Servers. The new version of the product contains a number of features designed to improve the effectiveness of management and protection tools. Among the most important innovations are support for the cloud security system Kaspersky Security Network, the new Enforced Anti-Spam Updates service, as well as a console for monitoring the main parameters of work in real time.

Kaspersky Security for Microsoft Exchange Servers protects enterprise mail servers based on Microsoft Exchange from malicious objects and spam. The solution is part of the Kaspersky Open Space Security product line, which also includes other means of protecting various elements of the corporate IT infrastructure, including for mail and file servers, as well as for computers of company employees, Kaspersky Lab said in a statement.

The Maintenance Pack 1 update provides full support for the Database Availability Group, a technology introduced in Microsoft Exchange Server 2010. Support for this technology, along with other innovations in the Kaspersky Lab solution, reduces, according to the developers, the time spent on configuration and management, providing tools for centralized administration, reporting and backup. Another means of improving efficiency and ease of management is the new dashboard, which allows you to control the main settings for protecting the mail server in real time.

The spam analysis and filtering system provides more efficient detection, as well as increased performance. The Enforced Anti-Spam Updates service is responsible for the prompt response to new mass spam mailings. It offers a new method for fast delivery of spam database updates, which means even more prompt blocking of spam messages. Finally, support for the cloud security system Kaspersky Security Network offers a fundamentally new level of protection against spam by receiving information from millions of users of Kaspersky Lab products in real time, the company says.

"Email is one of the main ways that malware can penetrate an organization's computer network, so reliable email server protection is needed to ensure stable operation of any business. Kaspersky Security 8.0 for Microsoft Exchange Servers has already established itself in the market as an effective solution that protects world-class malware and spam. The released update made it possible to improve the existing functionality of the product, as well as expand it with new tools, "commented Sergey Zemkov, Managing Director of Kaspersky Lab in Russia, on the release of the updated version of the product
