Biography
Andrey was born on September 21, 1956 in Moscow.
In 1973 he entered the Department of Economics of Foreign Countries of the Faculty of Economics of Moscow State University.
In 1979 he graduated from the Faculty of Economics of Lomonosov Moscow State University with a degree in international economist.
In 2001, at the Financial Academy under the Government of the Russian Federation, he defended his dissertation "Globalization as a form of internationalization of economics" with the assignment of the degree of candidate of economic sciences.
In 1979, he received a job at the Consulate General of the USSR in Australia (Sydney).
From 1982 to 1985 he worked as Secretary of the European Department of the USSR Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In 1985 and until 1990 he worked at the USSR Embassy in Great Britain (London).
From 1990 to 1992 he was the first secretary, adviser to the European Department of the USSR Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In 1992 he worked at the Russian Investment and Financial Company.
In 1993, he was appointed deputy head of the foreign investment department of Imperial Bank.
In 1995, he became First Deputy Chairman of the National Reserve Bank.
In 1996, by decree of President Boris Yeltsin, he was appointed chairman of Vnesheconombank.
At the end of 2001, Kostin and Chairman of the current government Mikhail Kasyanov became the initiators of the project of the association of Vneshtorgbank (VTB) and Vnesheconombank (VEB). The Russian government approved the project, decided to buy VTB shares from the Central Bank, merge it with VEB and entrust Kostin with managing the combined bank.
In 2002, Kostin was appointed president and chairman of the board of Vneshtorgbank.
On April 5, 2017, by the decision of Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, Kostin's powers as head of VTB were extended for another five years.
As of April 10, 2018, Andrei Leonidovich Kostin works as president of VTB Bank.

Andrei Kostin joined the board of directors of Rostelecom
On August 7, 2020, Rostelecom shareholders at the annual meeting approved the new composition of the company's board of directors. It includes Deputy Prime Minister RFDmitry Chernyshenko and Head of VTB Bank Andrei Kostin. Read more here.
Membership in VTB Supervisory Board
At the end of September 2020, VTB shareholders at the annual general meeting elected the bank's supervisory board in a new composition. It included the head of the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation Maksim Reshetnikov and the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, the head of the government apparatus of the Russian Federation Dmitry Grigorenko. Other activity
In July 2007, he joined the Board of Directors of Russian Railways (RZD). Re-approved in this position in July 2008.
In 2010, he refused re-election, motivating him with a desire to focus on working at VTB.
October 1, 2007 was elected a member of the Supreme Council of the United Russia party [16].
Since February 1, 2014 he was appointed director of the Higher School of Management of St. Petersburg State University.

Family
Married. Two sons. The eldest son - Andrei, deputy chairman of the board of Deutsche Bank - died in the summer of 2011 in an accident.
