Igor Makarov's main assets at that time were concentrated in the oil and gas industry (LLC Oil and Gas Company Itera, OJSC Tarkosaleneftegaz, OJSC Sibneftegaz).

2013: Sale of Rosneft's gas assets for $2.9 billion
In 2012, Rosneft and Itera entered into a strategic cooperation agreement for joint exploration and development of gas fields in Russia. Then the joint venture, where Rosneft owned 51% of Itera, included gas (49% of Sibneftegaz OJSC, 49% of Purgaz CJSC, 67% in Uralsevergaz-NGK CJSC and some other assets of Itera, and gas fields of the Kyn-Chaselsky group owned by Rosneft.
In 2013, Rosneft acquired the remaining 49% of the shares of the oil and gas company Itera for $2.9 billion. Of these, $1.8 billion is to Makarov. After the sale of his gas assets to Rosneft, Makarov gave the company a new name, turning the word "Itera" - the company began to be called "Areti."
2017: Purchase of 50% in New Stream
On October 2, 2017, it became known that Igor Makarov's Areti group of companies buys 50% of Dmitry Mazurov's New Stream group. The amount of the transaction was not disclosed.
The press service of Novy Stream confirmed to Forbes that Mazurov and Makarov will jointly own and manage the group of companies that owns Antipinsky (Tyumen Region) and the Mari Refinery, mining assets in the Orenburg Region and bitumen production in the Nizhny Novgorod Region.
2022: Half-stake sale in Canada's Spartan Delta
On March 28, 2022, the company of Russian billionaire Igor Makarov sold more than half of its stake in Canadian natural gas producer Spartan Delta Corp., which was one of the first public transactions to sell a Canadian asset by a Russian since the beginning of the conflict to Ukraine.
Makarova's Areti Energy SPV, which was Spartan Delta's largest shareholder before the sale, sold 15 million shares, representing a 9.8% stake in the Calgary-based company at C $8.10 ($6.44) per share, Makarova's Swiss company Areti Energy S.A. said in a statement. The total revenue was C $121.5 million.
Charity
One of Igor Makarov's largest charitable projects is the Flight of Hope International Project for the Rescue of White Cranes.
Carries out charitable actions to ensure social protection of the most needy segments of the population, sponsors a number of disabled Chernobyl organizations.
