2025: Announcement of laptops based on Elbrus-2C3 processors
Promobit announced plans to release the first series of laptops based on Russian Elbrus-2C3 processors. The start of sales is scheduled for the summer of 2025. At the same time, deliveries of BITBLAZE Titan devices based on Baikal-M chips have been suspended indefinitely. This was announced on February 27, 2025 by the general director of the company Maxim Koposov.
According to CNews, the decision on further deliveries of laptops based on Elbrus will be made depending on the reaction of the market. In case of positive demand dynamics, the company intends to turn to the manufacturer of MCST processors for the next batch of chips.
The production of laptops with Russian processors is complicated by sanctions imposed in 2022, when the Taiwanese company TSMC stopped producing Elbrus and Baikal processors. In Russia, there is no production capacity of the necessary level for the manufacture of such chips, and several years of preparatory work are required to transfer production to other foreign factories.
Maxim Koposov noted that the ICST company met sanctions with a significant stock of processors. Promobit itself has a reserve of several hundred Elbrus-2C3 processors. According to sources among manufacturers and developers of microelectronics, the ICST managed to obtain tens of thousands of chips from production factories before the imposition of sanctions - part in the form of ready-made crystals, and part in the form of semiconductor plates.
Representatives of SPC ELVIS, which acts as the ICST management company, denied this information, saying that information about the import and availability of processors does not correspond to reality.
At the end of 2024, a batch of Baikal-M processors arrived in Russia, but it quickly sold out and mainly went to a large company with state participation. The next deliveries of these chips are expected no earlier than the end of 2025, which explains the reorientation of electronics manufacturers to the available Elbrus processors[1]
2022
Start of production of laptops on the Baikal-M processor
In early June 2022, Promobit announced the start of mass production of the first Russian laptop based on the Baikal-M processor. We are talking about the Bitblaze Titan BM15 model. The first batch of released devices will number about 1000 units.
Astra Linux or Alt Linux is offered as the operating system. Computers will first be supplied to government agencies and government agencies. In the fourth quarter of 2022, it is planned to launch mass production for everyone. The company noted the increased security of the laptop from cyber attacks. The cost of the device will range from 100 thousand rubles to 120 thousand rubles.
The main characteristics of the product are as follows:
- IPS-screen with Full HD resolution and a diagonal of 15.6 inches;
- 16GB RAM expandable up to 128GB;
- Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, USB 3.0, HDMI, USB Type-C, RJ-45 and mini jack 3.5 mm connectors;
- the battery capacity is 6000 mAh;
- Russian ARM-processor "Baikal-M" for eight cores with a maximum clock frequency of 1.5 GHz;
- SSD M.2 drive with a capacity of 250 to 512 GB (depending on the configuration).
Laptop customers will be provided with a 3-year warranty and 1 year of basic technical support. Extended and premium support and warranty renewal are optional.
By June 8, 2022, the Promobit website has the opportunity to pre-order Bitblaze Titan. The Company field is required. This may indicate that ordinary consumers will not be able to purchase a laptop yet.
According to Omsk Regional Television, the pre-production version of the laptop will differ from the prototype in more compact dimensions and lighter weight. In addition, the developers have created a new motherboard for it.[2]
Laptop announcement
In March 2022, Promobit announced the Bitblaze Titan BM15 laptop, built on the Russian Baikal-M processor. The manufacturer also named the cost of the novelty: the price of the model in an aluminum case will be 100-120 thousand rubles, and the option in a titanium case will cost at least 200 thousand rubles.
The portable computer received a 15.6-inch IPS-display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, an 8-core Baikal-M processor with an integrated video card, 16 GB of RAM and an SSD-drive with a capacity of 250 to 512 GB. The capacity of the battery is declared at 6000 mAh.
The laptop does not have a discrete video card - the Baikal-M and Elbrus-2C3 processors have built-in video adapters. In the future, the use of video cards from third-party manufacturers is not excluded.
The performance of such video adapters is not enough for modern games or hardware rendering. Therefore, we say that by purpose it is a laptop, rather, for some office tasks. For the mass consumer, other characteristics are significant, for example, gaming, which so far Russian processors cannot provide in the usual way. Nevertheless, we have plans to move on to creating a consumer model, "Maxim Koposov, director of Promobit NGS55.RU told the publication. |
The first batch will be 1000 pieces. Mass production of the device will be launched in 2022.
The Titan BM15 laptop uses production parts from foreign companies from Taiwan, the USA, China, Japan and the European Union. Koposov noted that many of these states have imposed sanctions against the Russian Federation. Promobit does not exclude the complete replacement of foreign-made components with Russian ones, provided that they appear and are competitive.[3]
