Cyber Infrastructure 6.0 with improved performance and fault tolerance

On July 11, 2024, Cyberprotect announced the release of an updated version of Cyber ​ ​ Infrastructure 6.0, a universal solution that combines software-defined storage and a virtualization platform into one product and contains all the necessary components for building a reliable, affordable and scalable enterprise IT infrastructure. The functionality of the computing service has been implemented, the capabilities of object S3 storage have been expanded, the system fault tolerance has been increased, support for network equipment has been improved and a number of errors have been fixed.

This release adds EVC technology to Cyber Infrastructure to configure virtual machine CPU emulation mode. It is useful for working in a cluster of mixed equipment. Selecting the EVC mode of operation allows you to adjust the balance between the ability to migrate VMs between cluster nodes and the performance in such a cluster.

The added ability to import external DSS allows VM disks to be located on external classic storage systems. It became possible to use external storage using the iSCSI protocol to host volumes with the operating system, applications and data of virtual machines deployed in a computing cluster. This provides additional options for scaling and optimizing storage utilization.

Users can now more efficiently manage objects in S3 storage with support for Tagging and Lifecycle. S3 Lifecycle is lifecycle management of objects in a bucket that allows you to configure automatic deletion of objects or versions of objects according to specified conditions and schedules.

S3 Tagging manages object tags to support bulk work with permissions for object groups. With this functionality, you can organize mandatory control over access to stored data to ensure compliance with security requirements.

Among the changes is a convenient mass configuration of storage disks with role management of all disks on one screen. The ability to select a group of disks to assign roles to them or reset a previously assigned configuration has been added. The function simplifies the process of configuring and managing disks, making it more convenient and intuitive.

The possibilities for creating a metro cluster have been expanded. The full metro cluster configuration from the control panel is now available. Options for a 4-replica replication scheme and efficient redundant coding schemes with an increased number of parity blocks and fault tolerance are included. The configuration of the cluster sensitivity level to node failure and support for writing to storage after complete loss of redundancy is implemented.

It is possible to increase the number of replicas of the control panel to 7 instances, which corresponds to the failover of the cluster at the level of 3 nodes. If the management server fails or becomes unavailable over the network, an instance of the control panel on another server will take over the panel service so that it remains available at the same dedicated IP address. This improves fault tolerance and ensures the continuity of critical applications and services.

This version of Cyber Infrastructure has made many other improvements and changes aimed at performance, fault tolerance and convenient work with storage, expanded the range of compatible equipment.

Based on S3 storage in Softline Multi-Cloud

Softline Group of Companies (PJSC Softline) has launched S3 object storage in Softline Multi-cloud. "Cyber Infrastructure" 5.5 with the possibility of creating VDI for domestic OS

On April 25, 2024, Cyberprotect announced the release of an updated version of Cyber ​ ​ Infrastructure 5.5, a universal solution that is a multi-protocol software-defined storage and virtualization platform in one product. It became possible to deploy a virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI), automatic load balancing between virtualization hosts (DRS), automatic volume balancing between storage tiers, S3 bucket policy functionality was implemented. Many other changes have been implemented to improve system performance, convenience, and flexibility.

System users can now deploy virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) for Russian operating systems Astra Linux 1.7.x, Red OS 7.3, Alt Server and Alt Workstation 10. Client connection via RDP and web browser is supported.

A significant improvement was the emergence of the ability to load balance (DRS) over CPU and RAM, which allows you to automatically and non-stop move virtual machines between virtualization servers to improve VM performance. The administrator can exclude individual virtual machines from the process, limit the frequency and schedule of migration.

The function of balancing storage levels is implemented. In multi-tier environments, you can now configure automatic data movement between tiers to ensure optimal performance and reliability. You can select different scenarios for setting up balancing, such as optimizing space usage, reducing response time, or providing minimal redundancy.

Other changes affected improving the performance of storage that uses NVMe disks, expanded the functionality of S3 object storage, and support for Intel and Broadcom network cards using the RoCE protocol.
