2024: Equipped with a Russian-designed battery

In May 2024, Motorinvest, which produces electric vehicles under the Evolute brand in Russia, announced the start of using a traction battery of Russian origin. We are talking about the product of the company "Autonomous Energy Systems" (SOJ, which is part of the Itelma group.

The first Evolute electric car with a Russian battery was the i-Joy model. According to the developers, thanks to the use of a domestic battery, the car can drive 20% more without recharging compared to the version equipped with a foreign battery.

The battery capacity from EPSS is 60 kVt⋅ch, which is about 10 kVt⋅ch more than the battery capacity used before. With the new battery, the Evolute i-Joy has a range of 480 kilometers. The rated voltage of the traction battery is estimated at more than 350 V, and the maximum current in normal mode is 260 A per discharge, and 200 A per charge.

According to the developers, when developing the battery, climatic and road conditions in Russia were taken into account. It supports fast charge function, is resistant to temperature drops and is equipped with a cooling system. It is claimed the electric car could be used in temperatures up to -40C.

Evolve i-Joy is equipped with a 176 hp electric motor with 225 Nm torque, front drive. In the current specification, a car on one full charge travels up to 405 km. By May 23, 2024, i-Joy is available at a price of 3,990,000 rubles, taking into account branded discounts and the state program of preferential car loans, its price is 2,490,000 rubles.

It is expected that in the future other models of the Evolute line will be equipped with Russian batteries, which, in addition to the i-Joy, includes a sedan, i-Pro crossovers i-Sky and a i-Jet minivan, i-Van as well as a seven-seater hybrid crossover. i-Space[1]

2023: RusHydro complains about the quality of Russian electric vehicles

On October 10, 2023, speaking at a round table on the prospects for electric transport in, the Federation Council general director of EZS "" RusHydro Dmitry Belyaev criticized the domestic Evolute electric vehicles. The latter are in the fleet of car-sharing services Green Crab developed by RusHydro.

According to Belyaev, the "childhood diseases" of domestic electric cars lead to the fact that 20% of the park and more can be idle at the moment. In addition, there are problems with charging stations.

We support the thesis that the quality of Evolute electric vehicles needs to be improved. I would like manufacturers to hear feedback from customers - large corporate customers and meet halfway, - said Sergey Vologda, deputy general director of Gazprombank Leasing (Green Crab signed a contract for leasing electric cars with this company).

The company itself Motorinvest"" (car manufacturer Evolute) acknowledged the problem: they said that there were not enough resources to provide support. The company is negotiating with potential new service partners by October 2023. To minimize the downtime of Green Crab electric cars, Evolute engineers regularly travel to the region with the necessary troubleshooting equipment, a spokesman for the automaker told the newspaper.

Evolute is the second most popular brand of electric cars in Russia. According to Avtostat, 1,410 brand cars were sold in the country in 9 months of 2023. At the same time, the entire market for new electric vehicles for three quarters amounted to 8752 units.

The Green Crab website states by October 11, 2023 that the car sharing fleet includes new electric vehicles crossovers JAC iev7s, Evolve I-JOY, 2022 Evolute I-Pro sedan in Luxe trim levels.[2]

Electric Vehicle Certification

In August 2022, the Lipetsk company Motorinvest certified the first electric car, receiving Vehicle Type Approval (OTTS) for the Evolve i-Joy crossover. This model is the Russian version of the Chinese car Dongfeng Aeolus E70.

Evolve i-Joy received a twin-engine power plant with a capacity of 176 hp. and a battery with a capacity of 53 kilowatt-hours, one charge of which is enough for the electric car to travel 405 km on the NEDC cycle. Support for fast charging is announced, allowing you to replenish your energy supply from 30 to 80% in half an hour.

Evolute i-Joy is scheduled to begin production in the third quarter of 2022. In addition to Evolute i-Joy, the Evolute i-PRO sedan will be sold in Russia. It is equipped with a 163-horsepower electric motor powered by a 53 kWh battery. On one charge, the car will be able to drive up to 420 km (on the NEDC cycle). You can charge the battery from a 7 kW AC source in 8.5 hours. From a 75 kW DC charger, you can replenish the energy supply to 80% in just 36 minutes.

The dynamic characteristics of the electric car almost do not differ from the characteristics of the usual gasoline and diesel models: it takes 9.5 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h. The maximum speed is modest - no more than 150 km/h.

Evolute cars will be produced at the Lipetsk Motor Plant. The launch of mass production is scheduled for September 2022. At the initial stage, brand cars will be sold in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Krasnodar and Sochi. In addition to the i-Pro sedan, the company plans to organize the production of three crossovers and a minivan in the future. All of them will be based on cars from the Chinese company Dongfeng.

As for the cost of an electric car, "it will be comparable to cars of this class on ICE," the Ministry of Industry and Trade said. It is assumed that Evolve i-Joy will cost 2-3 million rubles.[4]
