Huawei EMUI is the user interface developed by the company Huawei for the smartphones with touch screens and operating system Android.

2021: Availability in Russia EMUI 11 to Huawei MatePad Pro and Huawei MediaPad M6

On February 8, 2021 the Huawei Consumer Business Group (BG) company announced that the updated EMUI 11 interface became available to the Russian users of tablets of HUAWEI MatePad Pro and HUAWEI MediaPad M6. Distribution in Russia of upgraded version of the operating system began in December, 2020. The cover for tablets received the updated multiwindow mode with a floating control panel, the Multiskrin function for connection of the tablet to the smartphone, the updated application of Note with a possibility of text recognition in photos. Besides, the interface was added with animation elements which optimize interaction with the device.

According to the company, researches of a consumer behavior showed that most often tablets use for watching movies and a TV show, video games and creation of notes. Working on upgraded version of the user interface, engineers of HUAWEI tried to optimize interaction with the device in these scenarios. The continuous animation effects used in the updated cover help users to focus attention on the current task and quicker to find necessary elements in the menu and applications. Thanking EMUI 11 HUAWEI tablets support intuitive management and smooth graphics.

EMUI 11 opens opportunities for the organization of multitask work. Among them the Multiskrin mode allowing to connect in one contact the smartphone to the tablet and to operate files and applications on both devices via one screen and fully to use possibilities of keyboard input. In upgraded version of a cover the screen of the smartphone can be brought to the tablet in the full-screen mode, for more convenient work with the presentations, reading news and viewing photos, at the same time other applications, for example, incoming calls and messages, will be displayed only on the smartphone. Confidential data, including passwords, still remain on the smartphone, without repeated authorization on the tablet.

The updated multiwindow mode got support of two additional floating windows that allows to display up to four applications at the same time: two in the separated screen and two in floating windows, optimizing convenience and productivity of multitask work. The control panel stores the minimized floating windows in a side part of the screen for fast switching between applications. Besides, up to 10 pop-up windows it is possible to place in App Bubble, the icon of the application can be moved on the screen. Four active windows, give the chance to edit documents, to make purchase online, to communicate and watch video on one screen. This mode works with any applications.

The advanced Notes application had an opportunity to insert the pictures shot with the smartphone into the text. In addition, the application is capable to recognize the text in photos and to block separate notes for additional protection of personal information. Integration with WPS Office allows to browse at the same time two documents and to switch quickly between them.

EMUI 11 opens opportunities and for fans of creativity. The application for Zen Brush calligraphy with an accuracy imitates effect of drawing by a brush on paper. The application provides free paint tools and editing drawings in layers for animation of FlipaClip, helping to realize the creative ideas. The Noteshelf application which offers at choice of several types of brushes, flowers and thickness of an inking also became available to users. It supports an insert of images and the text that allows to create the notes integrating the handwritten and printing text.

EMUI 11 to already well Russian users of HUAWEI MatePad Pro and HUAWEI MediaPad M6. Update is distributed through wireless channels of HUAWEI Over-the-Air (HOTA).

2020

Availability of EMUI 10.1 in Russia

On June 22, 2020 the Huawei company announced that in the nearest future EMUI 10.1 will become available to the Russian users. Updates of OTA will come to brand smartphones within several months, depending on specific models.

First of all, the updated interface appeared on flagman smartphones of the series Huawei P40, Huawei P40 Pro. Other models of a brand will receive updates of OTA already in the nearest future.

As emphasized in the company, EMUI 10.1 underwent certification on compliance to requirements of the ISO/IEC 27701 standard about a management system for confidential information, guaranteeing to users reliability of storage and personal data processing.

EMUI 10.1

On March 27, 2020 the HUAWEI company provided the updated possibilities of the EMUI 10.1 interface. The technologies on the basis of artificial intelligence for the first time provided to EMUI 10.1 are a crucial element of a uniform ecosystem of the interconnected devices. EMUI 10.1 received functions of HUAWEI MeeTime and also enhanced capabilities for Multi-screen Collaboration.

According to the company, in EMUI 10.1 when scrolling the screen the effect appears: animation slows down before completely stopping. Such model of acceleration is developed taking into account researches of human perception - animation behaves as the user expects.

For emergence of a side bar, it is enough to run a finger in the center from any edge of the screen now. Applications in a side bar can be moved on the screen to start the mode of a multiwindow ("Multi-Window"). Images, texts and even files can be transferred from one application to another. The floating window allows to carry out basic tasks, for example, to respond to messages, without opening the application in the full-screen mode, remaining focused on the solution of the current tasks.

The control panel several devices is the unified platform which allows to see all devices, available to connection. For connection of one device to another it is enough to select the corresponding button of the menu. The panel which can be caused from any edge of the screen is used for inclusion and switching off of the connected devices, inclusion of the Multiskrin mode, setup of a projection of the screen of the smartphone and other. The command center several devices (Multi-Device Control Centre) can recommend the devices which are nearby. For example, when the user listens to music with HUAWEI Music, and HUAWEI Sound X is a row, the control panel will suggest to switch an audio output to a smart column to improve sounding.

EMUI 10.1 represents HUAWEI MeeTime – the universal application for video calls. HUAWEI MeeTime supports 1080p Full HD for video calls between devices of HUAWEI. Algorithms of a byyutifikation and brightness are built in HUAWEI MeeTime to optimize quality of video at weak lighting. Algorithms also allow to ensure smooth functioning of video conference at an unstable signal of network. Users can show the screen to the interlocutor during a video call and do marks on the screen. Thanks to technologies of HUAWEI became possible to perform wireless connection of cameras of third-party producers, for example, Drift action camera, to the HUAWEI smartphones working at EMUI 10.1.

HUAWEI Share for EMUI 10.1 supports fast file transfer between two devices of HUAWEI. In addition to smartphones, tablets and notebooks of HUAWEI, HUAWEI Share supports also structures of the third-party companies now. For example, the European company Cewe implemented HUAWEI Share in the devices for remote printing of photos.

The updated features are added in the Multiskrin mode – now users can connect more peripheral devices to HUAWEI MateBook more effectively to use applications for the HUAWEI smartphones. There was an opportunity to perform audio-and video calls or to answer them via notebooks of HUAWEI right after installation of the mode which is started for couple of clicks. This technology allows to use the camera and the microphone of the notebook so as if they are connected to the smartphone. Users can also use applications for the notebook to open files and hyperlinks on the smartphone.

The voice assistant to Celia from HUAWEI will be presented at international markets together with EMUI 10.1. To activate the voice assistant, it is necessary to clamp the inclusion button for one second or tell "Hey Celia". The voice assistant can help with the solution of routine tasks. Full integration allows Celia to have access to the hardware and artificial intelligence of the device therefore the voice assistant is able to define objects, to manage media reproduction, to send messages, to count calories, etc. First of all Celia will support the English, French and Spanish languages and initial will become available in Great Britain, France, Spain, Mexico, Chile and Colombia, and further will be started in other countries.

Thanks to joint storage system of files in gallery all media files of the smartphones and HUAWEI tablets working at EMUI 10.1 which are connected to same to Wi-fi of network and one HUAWEI ID are collected now. Function of search in all media files allows to find a photo or video, regardless of on what device it is saved.

The cover of EMUI 10.1 will become available for more than 30 HUAWEI smartphones, including a series of HUAWEI Mate 30, HUAWEI Mate X, the HUAWEI P30 series and others.

The announcement of mailing of updates of OS EMUI 10 in Russia

On January 17, 2020 the Huawei company reported that the version of the EMUI 10 operating system will become available to the Russian users in the nearest future. First of all, the updated EMUI 10 interface will appear on the smartphones HUAWEI P30, HUAWEI P30 Pro, HUAWEI Mate20 and HUAWEI Mate20 Pro. Other models of a brand will receive updates of OTA in the second quarter this 2020.

According to the company, innovations are aimed at ensuring more comfortable use of the HUAWEI smartphones for consumers. Thanks to EMUI 10 users of HUAWEI will be able to estimate the improved possibilities of the interface. Updating of EMUI 10 offers modifed design, the updated effects of animation, intellectual interaction of devices, the improved performance and other functions. The version of EMUI 10 will concern more than 35 models of the HUAWEI smartphones and will open access to intellectual functions to more than 150 million users worldwide.

The mechanism of the determined delay (Deterministic Latency Engine) became an important innovation of EMUI 10. It is the technology capable to define QoS (service quality) and term of accomplishment for each system task. The operating system plans tasks according to a priority of QoS and distributes CPU time, capacities of the graphic module, memory, bandwidth, Wi-Fi and other resources depending on a priority and terms of accomplishment of a task. It provides smooth and stable interaction of the user with the smartphone and completely fixes the problems with delays arising in Android OS because of the non-regulated competition between tasks.

In the version of EMUI 10.0 developers tried to work each part to optimize the user experience and to simplify access to the updated intellectual opportunities of smartphones. In the interface there were animated elements which are activated in different situations. Thanks to them reactions of the interface to touches became more natural. The evening dark subject was picked up in HUAWEI laboratory. It provides visual comfort during the work with the interface in evening and night time.

Availability of EMUI 9.1 to the Russian users of the Huawei Mate 20, Mate 20 Pro and Porsche Design Mate 20 RS smartphones

On July 2, 2019 the HUAWEI company reported that since this week the version of EMUI 9.1 will become available to the Russian users to smartphones of HUAWEI Mate 20, Mate 20 Pro and Porsche Design Mate 20 RS.

According to the company, EMUI 9.1 offers the improved EROFS file system which provides advanced process of compression of files and acceleration of any reading for 20%. Also EMUI 9.1 includes updating of GPU Turbo to version 3.0 with support of 25 games. It increases performance at decrease in energy consumption — thus, the user receives big stability during the game and the high frequency of the personnel. With updating in the Mate 20 Pro smartphones there will be "a lunar mode" (moon mode) which allows to take better pictures of the Moon by means of a superzoom of threefold cameras of Leica. This function of "demonstration of video at an incoming call" will replace (incoming call video show) a traditional tune and the interface. Users will be able to put videos on incoming calls from different contacts.

Updating of EMUI 9.1 for July, 2019 can already be downloaded on smartphones of HUAWEI Mate 20, Mate 20 Pro and also Porsche Design Mate 20 RS, it will be available also to other models soon.

HUAWEI constantly improves the operating system, optimizing Android for performance improvement. In 2016 the company for the first time submitted the F2FS file system as replacement of EXT4 to EMUI 5.1 along with release of the smartphone of HUAWEI Mate 9. With the updated file system the speed of reaction grew by 20%. The traditional EXT4 file system used by Linux kernel is suitable for mechanical hard drives, and the F2FS file system is intended for a flash memory.

F2FS only changed the section of the user (disk D equivalent in the computer) the Android systems. Again changes the file system from EMUI 9.1 HUAWEI, for the first time using EROFS in the system section (disk C equivalent in the computer). This change led to the following improvements in operation of the smartphone:

• Performance of any reading grew on average by 20%, and the maximum capacity of any reading — for 300%.
• At big load applications are started more than 10% quicker.
• Economy of the place: system ROM occupies 2 GB less memory.
• There is no problem with the braking caused by repeated data reading and unpacking at memory contention any more.
• Higher the security level: EROFS is available only to reading. The third parties cannot rewrite the system section therefore the security level became higher.

GPU Turbo 3.0 comprehensively optimizes game processes and supports 25 games for July, 2019. The technology provides almost full frame functioning of widespread games. Thanks to management of the image on the basis of artificial intelligence uneven borders smooth out, the image becomes more accurate even in the dark, and players get better visual experience.

Availability of EMUI 9.1 to owners of the Honor smartphones

On June 20, 2019 the Huawei company provided upgradeability of the interface to EMUI 9.1 for owners of smartphones of the Honor 8, 9, 10 series and other smartphones. The version of EMUI 9.1 which is based on Android 9 will be available to phones which left after 2017. Updating of the operating system is aimed at providing more comfortable use of the Honor smartphones for consumers.

In version 9.1 users will be able to estimate the EROFS file system, the improved optimization of applications and also technology of acceleration of graphic data processing of GPU Turbo 3.0. The size of program system of EROFS is less than previous version on 2 Gbytes that makes in the smartphone an occasional seat for 900 photos or 500 songs. Also from innovations in the company noted the video editor working based on artificial intelligence.

Updating of EMUI 9.1 provides fast and smooth applications launch. According to OS developers, in this version smartphones will react to 43% quicker, the speed of applications launch will rise up to 60%, and the smoothness of operation the application will grow by 57%. The updated EMUI 9.1 provides applications launch more than 1500 MS faster, than on other smartphones.

The version of EMUI 9.1 will be available from June to October, 2019 to the following models: Honor 7X, Honor 8X, Honor 8 Pro, Honor 9, Honor 9 Lite, Honor 10, Honor 10 Lite, Honor View 10, Honor View 20 and Honor Play.

Availability of EMUI 9.0 to the Russian users of the Huawei P20 and Huawei P20 Pro smartphones

On December 14, 2018 the company Huawei reported that upgraded version of the corporate user interface EMUI 9.0 will become officially available to the Russian users smartphones HUAWEI P20 and HUAWEI P20 Pro, since the middle of December, 2018.

Created on the basis of OS Android 9.0 Pie, EMUI 9.0 increases overall performance on and provides the accelerated start applications. The App Assistant application helps to configure notifications so that not to interrupt game sessions. For creation of the comfortable interface engineers of Huawei reduced menu items of settings for 10%, having integrated a number of sections and having moved seldom used points to a separate tab that, according to the developer, considerably increased convenience of control of the smartphone. Navigation the panel was displaced in the lower part of the screen to increase convenience at control of the smartphone one hand. Besides, important visual elements are moved to EMUI 9.0 so that to lower load of eyes.

As noted in Huawei, EMUI 9.0 provides higher level of data protection. All data are subject to enciphering and do not leave an internal memory of the smartphone, allowing to use function of autocompletion without risk of leakage of personal information.

The updated interface had an opportunity to connect the smartphone to the TV or the monitor through a wireless channel. Users can bring the image to big screens for demonstration of the presentations, photos, videos and even for video games. EMUI 9.0 also supports wireless sending documents for printing via Huawei Share. Function allows to print documents directly from the smartphone, only one click, excepting need of copying and sending files, emphasized in Huawei.

The Wind Down mode mode provides comfortable preparation for sleeping, allowing to configure gradual decrease in brightness of the display and its transition to the monochrome mode with muting of sounds of notifications for a certain time.

EMUI 9.0

On September 5, 2018 the Huawei company provided upgraded version of the corporate EMUI 9.0 operating system constructed based on Android 9 OS.

According to the company, having become one of the first user systems based on Android Pie, EMUI 9.0 offers users the intuitive interface and rich feature set, providing comfort at daily use of the smartphone. EMUI 9.0 OS is in a beta testing stage. The OS next functions will be provided shortly to time of start of a series of the Huawei Mate 20 smartphones. OS guarantees even more natural and comfortable interaction with the smartphone against Huawei.

EMUI 9.0 also received the next storage of passwords in which users can safely store the ciphered passwords, pictures of the person and fingerprints for identification in different applications and services. The high level of protection is combined with ease of use of function.

The special Digital Balance control panel not only helps to trace usage time of the mobile device, but also allows to set limits on employment duration with each application.

By the time of official start of EMUI 9.0 will support all following models of mobile devices of Huawei. Additional functions will become available to users after start of a series of the Huawei Mate 20 smartphones.
