2022: Start of construction of a data center in Moscow for 4 thousand racks for $200 million
Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF, Sovereign Wealth Fund of the Russian Federation), Linxdatacenter, ER-Telecom Holding JSC (TM Дом.ру and Дом.ру Business) and Talos Fund I LP (a Middle East investment fund specializing in investments in promising technologies, including in the field of artificial intelligence) On February 17, 2022, TAdviser was informed about the start of the project for the construction of the next data center (Data center) as part of the expansion of Linxdatacenter and the development of cloud service in Russia.
Especially for this purpose, Linxdatacenter acquired a plot of land with an area of 26 thousand square meters in Moscow at 8 Serebryakova. After the completion of construction, the data center capacity will be 4 thousand racks with office space for customers. At the same time, it is planned to gradually increase the power capacity of the facility to 50 MW. The volume of investments in the project will be about $200 million.
"The site found for the construction of a new data center is optimal in a number of parameters. The total area of the land plot in the property allows you to plan an expansion in the future, and the location provides excellent network connectivity due to the proximity to the infrastructure of our existing site on the street. March 8, "- commented on the choice of construction site Olga Sokolova, CEO of Linxdatacenter. |
Among other things, the chosen site, according to her, is distinguished by "excellent transport accessibility" and proximity to large infrastructure facilities. In turn, full control over the construction process and the involvement of international experts will allow Linxdatacenter to plan and implement the project in accordance with high international standards in the field of data center management, including security, energy independence, usability for customers, Olga Sokolova believes.
The commissioning of the data center is scheduled for early 2024. The data center will be the largest of the company's data centers and its second facility in Moscow. Another Linxdatacenter data center is located in St. Petersburg. Redundant communication channels connecting facilities will allow three data centers to operate in a single infrastructure.
It is expected that the second data center in Moscow will meet the basic needs in the field of cloud solutions and colocation of the largest Russian and international companies:
- Providing the necessary virtual infrastructure for key tasks
- business continuity support;
- Reduce business risks by creating additional backup capabilities. IT infrastructures
The data center project is being developed by Linxdatacenter experts in cooperation with RDIF international partners, taking into account the requirements of international standards, including Tier III, and the most current technological trends, including innovative energy-efficient solutions.
"Investments in the construction of the largest Linxdatacenter data center in Moscow for the further development of the cloud service in Russia are fully consistent with RDIF's strategy to support the growth of the digital economy in the Russian Federation and the development of the relevant infrastructure," said Kirill Dmitriyev, RDIF CEO. |
In his opinion, the use of world best practices and innovations will create an energy efficient data center that meets modern standards. The facility will support the growth of the business of Russian digital services and the IT sector as a whole, will be widely in demand by international companies.
According to Linxdatacenter representatives, the increase in the company's capacity in Moscow is the start of an ambitious investment strategy for business development in Russia and increasing its market share in colocation, cloud services and connectivity services. As part of this strategy, it is planned to further expand the presence of Linxdatacenter in Moscow and St. Petersburg, as well as the commissioning of new sites in other Russian cities. The estimated investment in the implementation of the strategy will be up to $500 million.
"We follow the previously approved strategy for the development of the data center direction. Taking into account the peculiarities of the Russian market, this project will strengthen our presence in Moscow, the key region at the moment in terms of focusing customer demand, "added Andrei Kuzyaev, President of ER-Telecom Holding. |
