2020: Robots surgeons of Medtronic received Midas Rex drills for Mazor X
In the middle of December, 2020 Medtronic reported that it integrated high-speed drills of Midas Rex into the robotic system of surgery of a backbone Mazor. Besides, in a system new features of management of fusional implants appeared. As the American producer claims, regulating authorities granted permission for integration of new drills and other functions even earlier, than it was expected. Read more here.

Braque in robots surgeons. They fall on the patient during transaction
At the beginning of January, 2020 Medtronic warned about defects in Mazor X robots surgeons who can fall to the patient during transaction.
The Mazor X platform is used for exact positioning of tools or implants during the general backbone and brain operations. It is used both at open transactions, and at minimum invasive or chreskozhny procedures. However in this equipment defects are detected: it turned out that the so-called positioner of system II of type can unexpectedly fail, having brought down all surgical system on the patient. During 2019 Medtronic received seven messages about a problem.
During preoperative preparation the surgical Mazor X system rises and established over the operating table using the built-in automatic lifting gear. The positioner provides tough fixing of a surgical system over a table after detaching of a lifting gear. At a positioner exit out of operation a system can fall upon the patient, - Medtronic explained. |
Imperceptible leak of air in a pneumatic system which reduces the fixing effort of a positioner of the II type over time is an alleged cause and finally leads to falling of a system. Serious injuries and fatal cases it was not announced yet. Nevertheless, Medtronic warned clients that falling of a surgical system on the patient can lead to stupid injuries with development of a hematoma, bleeding or fractures.
The company stated that it works on the solution of this problem for now offered instructions for safe setup of a system for an intervening period. Medtronic also in detail described how to distinguish positioners of II and I type when checking the equipment.[1]
The first transactions with the help of Mazor X Stealth Edition
At the end of January, 2019 Medtronic announced that the first patients with success were operated using the robotic Mazor X Stealth Edition system.
The Mazor X Stealth Edition system proposes completely integrated solution for planning, accomplishment and control of transactions on a backbone. For the first time a system was used in Norton Healthcare hospital in Louisville, the State of Kentucky, and in the medical center Reston in Restona, the State of Virginia.
The surgeons using a system note that Mazor X Stealth Edition is in a revolutionary way new technology which uses the advanced planning software of the surgical procedure and a robotic system for exact installation of implants. A system not only plans transactions taking into account risk of the patient, but also allows to estimate backbone anatomy at 3D - a format and provides navigation and a feedback in real time at transaction.
During transaction the platform is fixed to a backbone or the patient's skull for prevention of shifts. The space location of the platform is designated corporate 3D - a marker. Then the backbone roentgenography in two projections is carried out, and the software of Mazor X automatically compares the vertebras seen on radiological images with those that are visible on the preoperative KT used for planning of the procedure. It allows to control completely space provision of all anatomical structures and to reach a procedure fine precision.
The Mazor X Stealth Edition system is developed by Medtronic together with recently Mazor Robotics acquired company and the software of Stealth set on the platform for robotic surgery of Mazor X includes. The Mazor X Stealth Edition system was approved by regulatory bodies of the USA in November, 2018. A system is available in the USA and, as expected, will be started in key regions during 2019, Medtronic reports.[2]
2016: Announcement
In July, 2016 the Israeli developer of technologies of surgical visualization Mazor Robotics announced the new solution of Mazor X representing the platform for carrying out highly automated backbone operations.
Innovation includes the analytical tools used both prior to transactions and during their carrying out. Special software allows to build visual 3D - a picture of structure of a backbone of the patient and to plan transactions with high accuracy.
The corporate module to logic of biomechanical chains and the computing program for giving of the correct provision of the bones needing treatment.
The surgeon manages the high-precision robot by means of the panel. Thanks to three-dimensional verification in real time the doctor confirms operations of the robot and will approve the plan of transactions made by electronics, using two-dimensional roentgenoscopy, visual tracking or the interoperatsionny systems of visualization, says Mazor Robotics.
Commercial start of Mazor X in North America will take place in October, 2016 within the annual North American Spine Society conference in Boston. The cost of a system will be $850 thousand.
Mazor Robotics agreed with the American producer of the medical equipment Medtronic about joint development and promotion of the Mazor X platform. At the same time the Medtronic company placed the order for acquisition of 15 copies of these installations.[3]
