2023: Demonstration of a computer to Russian President Vladimir Putin
On July 13, 2023, the president Russia Vladimir Putin visited an exhibition of Russian achievements in the development of quantum technologies, at which the head of state was presented with the most powerful quantum computer in the Russian Federation.
You have now shown me a quantum computer. Impressive, of course. Especially when you showed that computing in normal mode, on modern supercomputers, would take almost centuries, and quantum results are achieved in hours or days - this, of course, is impressive, "Putin appreciated the development. |
The president was presented with a 16-qubit quantum computer on ions, on which an algorithm for calculating a simple molecule - its modeling in real time - was launched using a cloud platform. The project of the system was developed as part of the implementation of the roadmap for quantum computing by a team of scientists from the Russian Quantum Center and the I.P. Lebedev Physics Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences with the coordination of Rosatom.
According to the Kremlin's press service, Vladimir Putin was also told about key elements of the component base of quantum computers, quantum sensors and developments in the field of quantum communications. The head of state examined thematic stands, corresponding prototypes and industrial designs.
As Ilya Semerikov, a researcher at the Optics of Complex Quantum Systems laboratory at the FIAN, said at the plenary session, the development began in 2015 with the creation of traps and attempts to keep ions in them. Then they made a super-accurate quantum clock for GLONASS, and then went directly to the roadmap.
Our quantum computer, which is important, is already doing useful things - modeling molecules, and not engaged in scientific abstraction, "said Ilya Semerikov. - The team's dream is to create a quantum processor that solves problems faster than a supercomputer, and is useful to a wide range of people.[1] |
2021: Representing a Quantum Computer on Ions
Scientists from Russian Quantum Center"" Physical Institute named after P.N. Lebedev RAS and presented a prototype quantum computer on ions. The researchers managed to develop a system of 4, qubits not increasing the number of ions, but applying the original scaling technology quantum processors using multi-level carriers - information kudits. This was announced on December 28, 2021 by the company "." Rosatom The prototype was developed within the framework of the roadmap for quantum computing, implemented by the State Corporation "." Rosatom More. here
"As part of the implementation of the roadmap for the development of quantum computing, Rosatom acts as an integrator and coordinator of the interaction scientific of centers countries and technological business. One of our tasks is to provide Russian scientists with everything necessary to bring the expected technological breakthrough closer. The results of creating a quantum computer on ions indicate that we managed to get the pace we needed. Of course, the scientific team of the Physical institute named after P.N. Lebedev under the leadership of Nikolai Kolachevsky, as well as the team of the Russian Quantum Center, deserves high marks. In general, in 2021, Rosatom allocated more than 6 billion to the development of quantum technologies and the creation of the necessary research infrastructure - rubles equipment was purchased and the first laboratories were completed. Further work will continue in accordance with the roadmap: by 2024, more than 23 billion rubles budgetary and extrabudgetary funds will be allocated for the creation of a quantum computer, "- noted Ekaterina Solntseva, Director for Digitalization of Rosatom State Corporation. |
"For us, this is the first significant result in the work on the roadmap on quantum computing. A universal quantum computer with cloud access will be built on the created base by the end of 2024, "- Ruslan Yunusov, head of the project office for quantum technologies of ROSATOM, emphasized. |
