2011

Since 2005 traditional telecom operators tried to block Skype service in the networks to save income from sale of voice minutes which brings them about 80% of all income. However until recently operators did not try to start own competitive VoIP-services. Only since 2011 traditional telecom operators, including AT&T, Korea Telecom, LG U+, China Mobile, etc. began to start VoIP-services under own brand, using voice and SPIRIT DSP video engines.

2012

By the calculations based on quarterly royalty reports of clients of SPIRIT and open data VoIP- in 2012 over 1 billion people more than in 100 countries of the world began to use the products SPIRIT. Voice and TeamSpirit video engines use in the products the companies Apple Adobe AT&T Avaya British Telecom China Mobile Dialogic Ericsson Huawei HTC Korea Telecom LG Microsoft Oracle Polycom Rostelecom Samsung Skype, ZTE and more than 250 other American, European and Asian technology companies.

The market of mobile VoIP continues grow very quickly. Relatively recently on smartphones and tablets there were new VoIP-services from such startups as Viber and WhatsApp. Viber announced 100 million free mobile users of the VoIP-product for smartphones only 18 months later after start of service and without any costs for marketing.

More than 90% of clients of SPIRIT, including such companies as Microsoft, HTC, Korea Telecom, Kyocera, LG, LG U+, Polycom, Rostelecom, Samsung, Texas Instruments, ZTE and even more than 200 others, pay SPIRIT companies of a royalty and quarterly announce number of the used licenses. However some large companies, including Apple, Adobe, AT&T, China Mobile, Huawei, Oracle and Skype or completely redeemed licenses for the products SPIRIT forward, or make the fixed annual payments and do not report on the number of really used licenses that allows to make calculation only on the basis of data from open sources.

Software products of SPIRIT provide a voice communication and reproduction of music in mobile products of Apple. According to the statement of Apple company, to the middle of 2012 the number of the mobile devices working running the operating system iOS (including iPhone and iPad), was more than 400 million pieces.

The voice SPIRIT engine is used by the world's largest telecom operator of China Mobile which announced more than 500 million users of Fetion service (today known as Feiliao) which is based on the SPIRIT engine.

Huawei wins first place in the world among suppliers of telecommunication equipment for telecom operators. Voice and SPIRIT video engines on various mobile platforms (including iOS and Android) and on RS are a part of delivery of equipment rooms and software products of Huawei which are on sale to tens of telecom operators from the different countries of the world and service in total more than 100 million users.

The Chinese, Taiwan and Korean clients of SPIRIT are mobile device manufacturers among whom Acer, Arima, Compal, HTC, iRiver, LG, Quanta, Samsung, ZTE and other companies, together service even more than 100 million people.

In March, 2012 the number of users of the online game The World of Warcraft from Blizzard which the voice SPIRIT engine is built in exceeded 10 million.

The Russian IM service QIP which is also based on the voice SPIRIT engine, declares 15 million users (as of January, 2012).

Besides, components of the program SPIRIT engine are used also in software for joint work of Adobe Connect and in Adobe Flash (starting with version 10.3). The Adobe company purchased the license for the complete voice SPIRIT engine in 2007, but refused later the idea to make of Flash a full-function VoIP-application due to the lack of model of monetization of VoIP for Flash. According to statements of Adobe, the product Flash is installed more than on 1.5 billion computers in the world. At calculation of number of users of SPIRIT computers with the set software of Adobe Flash in which the voice products SPIRIT are used were not considered.

The number of users of software products of SPIRIT are more than number of VoIP-users of Skype, Google, or Microsoft which are also developers of own VoIP-products and engines.

Despite the statement of Google for a possibility of calls on social network Google + (which 150 million people) and Gmail (425 million users), together VoIP-products of the company (Google Voice and Google Talk use) total less than 10 million users.

In 2010 Google purchased public Californian company GIPS which was engaged in development and licensing of the voice engines since 1999. Today ICQ, Mail.ru in the IM and also Webex use the voice engine of Google (including the GIPS engine on the basis of old licenses) AOL, Yahoo (in the amount less than 300 million users).

After purchase of licenses for voice engines in 2005 Microsoft created the engine which is not licensed and also Windows Live Messenger (nearly 250 million users) ensures functioning of the products Microsoft Lync (only 3 million users). Microsoft and Skype companies – independent developers two own (and still not compatible among themselves) voice engines.

Bought by Skype licenses for voice engines in 2003 and 2005, and in 2006 purchased the Californian startup of Camino Networks created by natives of GIPS. After this Skype developed the own engine and is not engaged in its licensing. Today at Skype of 250 million users, less than 10 million from them – paid. By the number of users the SPIRIT platform overtakes Skype. Also Skype licensed a video product at SPIRIT.

The patent for the scalable speech HD codec for IP networks

In December, 2012 SPIRIT announced obtaining the patent certificate on the scalable multi-speed broadband HD the speech IP-MR™ codec which is specially designed for use in video softphones and products for carrying out web video conferences. The patent is granted SPIRIT companies on a method of a speech coding, multilevel scalable steady against information losses, for packet switched networks. Sales of the HD SPIRIT IP-MR codec are already used in tens of products for the IP telephony of world leaders and software for video conferences.

The important advantage of the patented IP-MR codec is its automatic adaptation to the changing capacity of a communication channel. Fine tuning of generation rate of a bit flow under the channel provides the highest quality of the transferred speech or audio in the current network conditions. The codec is also steady against losses and delays of voice packets. The built-in mechanism of compensation of losses allows to maintain high quality of the transferred speech even in difficult situations of an overload of network and/or insufficiency of its resources. The transferred packets are structured on degree of importance of information which is contained in them, and for more important data their guaranteed delivery is provided (in QoS networks).

The algorithm of progressive coding put in the patented speech SPIRIT codec allows to increase voice quality without additional load of network. As a result of IP-MR does possible connection of a great number of the participants using channels with different capacity without transcoding, without delays and decline in quality of voice transmission. IP-MR automatically arranges the speed of transmitted data, at the same time the scalability of the codec provides high quality of voice transmission for all participants taking into account the current capacity of each channel. The same principles of coding were used in the international standard, the H.264.SVC video codec, after emergence of IP-MR in the market. IP-MR perfectly works on mobile devices.

Obtaining the patent for IP-MR became one more step in recognition of the SPIRIT codec by the international professional community after in 2011 IP-MR was already standardized by Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) - the organization dealing with issues of compatibility of protocols and devices on the Internet. The SPIRIT codec was standardized by IETF under the name RFC 6262 that allowed any developer of telecommunication equipment or software to use it so that products of other producers distinguished it, without facing compatibility issues. The SPIRIT IP-MR codec is already used in products for the IP telephony and web conferences released companies AT&T, Blizzard, China Mobile, Dialogic, Huawei, Korea Telecom, LG U+, Maaii, Oracle, Rostelecom and many other world technology leaders.

All advantages of the IP-MR codec are used in scalable cross-platform program voice and the SPIRIT TeamSpirit Voice and Video Engine SDK video engine which does possible fast creation of voice and video applications for all popular platforms, including PC, Mac, Linux, smartphones and tablets on operating systems iOS, Android and Windows Phone. SPIRIT IP-MR is intended for telecom operators and service providers, surely competing with voice HD codecs of Google, Skype and Microsoft companies. Along with ten other supported standard and widespread codecs, IP-MR is also used in the SPIRIT software product for carrying out multipoint web video conferences of VideoMost.
